2017 Chicago Co-Ed “All Sports” Playoff Preview – (July 31)

Updated: August 3, 2017

On Monday Night we closed out an extremely competitive Regular Season for the Co-Ed “All Sports” League and it was a very newsworthy finale.. Team Stratton was dealt their first Head to Head Loss in about 2 years of action, falling by a point to Team Leiby in Hoops. We saw Team Mortier lock up the #2 seed with a W and Team Castriano won in Softball and, thus, leapt over some Teams into the #6 spot. All of the Playoff Games on Monday will be played as Volleyball in a best of 3 format.. Games to 25.  We’ll get to all of that and more in the Playoff Preview below!

Playoff Preview

Opening Rd: 8. Team Leiby (Chipotle) v. 9. Team Reef (Fox in a Box)

As mentioned at the top Team Leiby is coming off a shocker to end the Regular Season as they snapped Team Stratton’s nearly 2-year undefeated streak.. It was a terrific Game and they should definitely have a bunch of momentum heading into the Playoffs! They will take on Team Reef here in the Opening Round where the Winner will look to dethrone Defending Champs Team Stratton.. These two Teams played Indoor Soccer in Week 6 and Team Reef was able to pull the 5-4 W in that one. Could Team Leiby pull the stunner two weeks in a row?!

Opening Rd: 7. Team Freeosk (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.) v. 10. Team Campbell & Co. (Karyn Collection)

Team Freeosk and Team Campbell & Co. met all the way back in Week 2 Dodgeball. They will lock horns once again on Monday Night in the Opening Round with a spot in the Elite8 on the line. Whoever makes it out of this one with their Playoff lives in tact, will immediately take on the tough #2 Team Mortier.  Every year we seem to see a Team pull an upset, coming from the Opening Round and knocking out a top-Team, it is very possible we will see that again here. First things first, they need to get past one another!

Elite8: 1. Team Stratton (Chicago Trolley) v. Winner 8/9

Team Stratton had the #1 seed all locked up coming into the final Regular Season Game on Monday Night and, thus, basketball was just for fun really.. They let Team Leiby stick around and in the end they weren’t able to come up with the W.. One Loss every couple of years is no big deal. They are a great Team and the Defending Champs, so it is safe to say they have already moved on.. They would likely love a Rematch with #8 Team Leiby here, but either way will look to move past them or #9 Team Reef en route to their 2nd straight Final4 appearance.

Elite8: 2. Team Mortier (The Bucket List) v. Winner 7/10

Team Mortier battled all season and earned the #2 seed for all of their hard work. They are one of the better Volleyball squads in the League (if playing at full strength) and they fully expect to move into the Final4 this season. They will take on either #7 Team Freeosk or #10 Team Campbell & Co. on Monday Night. It should be a competitive matchup either way.. They just need not to look ahead and take care of business.

Elite8: 3. Team Wolter (Rockin’ Refuel) v. 6. Team Castriano (SLA Insurance)

#3 Team Wolter have had significant success in All Sports Series. They are the 2015 Champs and have amassed quite a few Eliminations over the years. They had a great Regular Season and their #3 seed is proof of that.. Team Castriano had a slow start to the Season but came on very strong in the last few weeks to climb out of the Opening Round and avoid a potential date with one of the top-2 seeds in the Elite8. As a result, they are matched-up with Team Wolter in what could be the match of the night. These Teams squared off a couple weeks back in Hoops and Team Castriano took the W then.. Should be a fun one on Monday!

Elite8: 4. Team UM Alumni (Spikeball) v. 5. Team Gordon (Sandusky Lee)

The 4/5 matchup is always one of the highlights of the Quarter-Final Round.. These two Teams will be evenly matched and both finished the season in the top-half of the Standings, so we are in for a great Game.. Both Teams had some Volleyball success as well and this is lining up to potentially steal the show on Monday. Team Gordon defeated Team UM Alumni earlier in the year but that was on the Softball diamond and it will be an entirely different thing on Monday Night. Whoever the Winner is here will likely come face to face with Defending Champs #1 Team Stratton in Final4 Soccer!

That’s it for the Preview. See everyone on Monday Night!
