2017 Chicago Co-Ed “All Sports” Week 6 – (July 24)

Updated: July 28, 2017

We are officially one week away from the Playoffs! We had a full slate of Co-Ed Games on Monday Night.. Including Hoops, Indoor Soccer and even a Softball Game.. The final week of the season will also showcase 3 sports: Volleyball, Hoops and Softball. There is still a TON at stake in the Regular Season Finale before we venture into the Playoffs.

Quick Playoff note: All 10 Teams will make the Playoffs. Volleyball will be the sport for the Opening Round and Elite8.. We will then be left with 4 Teams entering the League’s final night.. We’ll have Final4 Indoor Soccer and then Championship Softball to finish the season!

Playoff Scenarios

1. Team Stratton (Chicago Trolley) – In 4th with 59 points

Team Stratton, the 2016 Champs, swept a Double Header with Team Gordon (Indoor Soccer) and then Team Reef (Softball) to grab what is rightfully theirs — the top spot in the Standings and with the W they locked up the #1 seed before the final week of the Regular Season — for the second straight year! Captain Fitz had 4 Goals in Soccer and a solid day at the plate (as did the entire team really). They look to just stay on track for another undefeated season next week when they take on Team Leiby in Hoops.

Race for 2nd

2. Team Mortier (The Bucket List) – In 2nd with 74 points

Team Mortier fell in Week 6, during Indoor Soccer, where they tried to keep pace with Team Stratton. Unfortunately, they couldn’t do so and now the #1 seed is out of grasp. Realistically though the #2 seed has just as many perks.. They’d still take on the Winner of an Opening Round match-up of Volleyball and get to scout their Opponents. They will be 1 Win away from the Final4.  Win and they are the #2 seed.. Lose and they could fall as low as 5th.

3. Team Wolter (Rockin’ Refuel) – In 3rd with 73 points

Team Wolter couldn’t get past Team Castriano in a competitive Week 6 Hoops Game and, thus, couldn’t overtake Team Mortier entering Week 7 for the 2nd. Here’s their story.. Win and they finish at least 3rd. A win + Team Mortier Loss, means they’ll start 2nd in the Playoffs. However, if they Lose, their Week 7 opponent Team Gordon would jump them, meaning they’d finish at least in 4th and potentially as low as 7th (meaning they could drop all the way to the Opening Round Volleyball Round). Week 7 is huge for them.

t-4. Team Gordon (Sandusky Lee) – Tied for with 71 points

t-4. Team UM Alumni (Spikeball) – Tied for with 71 points

Both of these groups enter Week 7 with 71 points earned. UM Alumni are coming off a gigantic Hoops W. Both have Volleyball on Monday Night. Both Teams could finish as high as #2.  Both Teams play a Team that is also very much in the hunt for the #2 seed as well on Monday Night. So a ton is at stake here.. With Wins, these groups should finish in the top-4 at the very least.. However, with a Loss either group could drop out of the Top-6 and have to play an extra Playoff Game in the Opening Round.. They’d also then be faced with an Elite8 matchup with one of the League’s best if they survive the Opening Round. This Monday is extremely important!

6. Team Freeosk (Dr. Jacob D.D.S) – In 6th with 60 points.

Team Freeosk holds the final Top-6 spot as we enter the final week of the Regular Season.. The Top-6 spots are key as Teams 7-10 have to compete in an extra Playoff Round.. So they have some control over their own fate as they will take on Team UM Alumni in Volleyball during Week 7. If they can get 9-15 points, it should be enough to keep a Top-6 spot (they may even be able to jump a team or two). They also have to be aware of Teams Reef, Leiby and Castriano actually jumping them from behind should they only get 3 points on Monday Night.

Top-6 Eligible

7. Team Reef (Fox in a Box) – In 9th with 49 points.

Big W for Team Reef on Monday Night. Thrilling 5-4 Soccer W over Team Leiby. They now take on current #2 Team Mortier in Hoops on Monday Night. With a Win and some luck they can avoid the Opening Round and jump over Team Freeosk who sits just 11 points ahead of them. If they lose or if Team Freeosk Wins, then they will start in the Opening Round and have to win an extra Volleyball match come Playoff time.

8. Team Leiby (Chipotle) – In 6th with 38 points

Took a hard Loss on Monday Night in a really thrilling Soccer match between them and Team Reef.  They are currently holding the final spot in the 8th spot as we enter the Regular Season finale. They are still within reach of the Top-6 and avoiding the Opening Round but it won’t be easy…  They play #1 Team Stratton in Hoops. Can they hand Team Stratton their first Loss in 2 seasons? Could there be a better opportunity to head into the Playoffs with a shocker?

9. Team Castriano (SLA Insurance) – In 8th with 35 points.

Huge win on Monday Night in Hoops against current #3 and 2015 Champs Team Wolter. Team Castriano has Softball on Monday Night. Worth 30 points. That means with a Win they could climb into the Top-6 still (with some help via Loss by Teams Reef, Leiby and Freeosk).. Top-6 means avoiding the Opening Round. They need to defeat Team Campbell & Co. to get that done. However, with a Loss they will surely be a part of the Opening Round and face a much tougher Playoff path..

Opening Round

10. Team Campbell & Co. (Karyn Collection) – In 10th with 15 points

Team Campbell & Co. knows that they will start in the Opening Round and have to Win an extra Volleyball match to get through to the Final4 come Playoff time. However, a lot is still at stake this coming Monday Night. First of all, momentum is essential for an extended Playoff run. They want to grab that. Also, Teams Castriano and Campbell & Co. play each other this coming Monday Night in Softball. The mental edge of winning the week before a potential Playoff rematch is HUGE.  Big week ahead!

That’s it for this week. See you Monday. Have a great weekend!
