It was a brisk evening on Thursday.. A night fit for Playoff action!  We entered the night with 25% of the Final4 locked in.. #1 Team Kugler got a BYE to the Semis.. We then had 3 other Games to determine who would qualify for Championship Thursday.. There were upsets and some great all-around performances. We’ll review the week that was below! Just want to give a big Thank You to the Teams that finished up this past week as well!

Playoffs Week 1 Review

ELITE8

4. Team Apuli (Hakimian Imports) v. 5. Team Saltzberg (Live Clean CHI)

In last week’s Preview – we highlighted this match-up as the one that could steal show.. The 4/5 Game is always even and we said that their Playoff Rematch would be much tighter than their Regular Season matchup that Team Apuli won easily.. Well, we were right (have to point those out from time to time).. This Game was knotted up until the final seconds.. Both Teams made several big plays during this Game and OT rules were being discussed but QB Andy Cohen hit Mike Matasar in the endzone in the final seconds for an incredible Team Apuli TD to punch their ticket to the Final4! They will now meet #1 Kugler for a spot in the Championship!

For Team Saltzberg, they were the most improved Team from 2017 to 2017. Their roster was re-shaped and they really had a puncher’s chance at winning the whole thing. They were without QB1 Alex Nadelman and that hurt them here, but they didn’t make any excuses and played well enough to Win. Captain Todd Saltzberg has a Crown on his mind and you can anticipate them coming back bigger and even better in 2018. Thanks for playing!

1. Team Kugler (Schweitzer Title) – BYE to Final4

#1 Team Kugler got some R&R last week and are now primed for a Final4 date with #4 Team Apuli. They are 2 Wins away from the Crown.

2. Team Tickman (Chicago Trolley) v. 8. Team Barbati (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.)

Team Tickman entered Thursday Night as one of the favorites for the whole thing and they played like it. QB Andrew Sledd and Jeffrey Oscar both turned in impressive multi-TD performances to spearhead a 27-point outburst that is much more impactful than it seems considering the weather conditions. They did enough to move on and they will take on 2x Defending Champs Team Jimenez in the Final4. Only one of them can move on to the Championship!

For Team Barbati, they ran into one of the League’s best.. Not much you can do. Captain Vince Barbati, QB Jack Murphy and co. are as solid as it comes and with another playmaker or two they could take the leap. They are not far off from being in the title-picture a year from now. Always a pleasure to have them out there. Thanks for playing!

3. Team Elisco (SLA Insurance) v. 6. Team Jimenez (Karyn Collection)

We called this one the “Main Event” in last week’s Preview.. It did not disappoint. In one corner, the #3 seed Team Elisco who made it to the Championship in 2016.  In the other corner, the 2x Defending Champs Team Jimenez – attempting to make it to their third-straight Final4.. That’s right a Championship Rematch! The Defenses were flying around and the strong winds helped make for a low-scoring affair. There were a few big catches but the Defenses would hold more often than not.. Team Elisco managed to score on a Cody Davis throw to Jacob Leib.. Unfortunately for them it was not enough and their season would end at the hands of Team Jimenez for the second straight year. On to the Final4 where they will tangle with #2 Team Tickman!

For Team Elisco, no doubt – it is a disappointing end to the Season.. They are too good to be content with anything other than a Championship. They will be back next year and once again among the elite groups vying for the title. They will likely get past Captain Alex Rasky back as well – that will surely help.. Thanks again for playing!

That’s it for the first Week of the Playoffs. Good Luck to the Final4 and thanks to those who finished up last week!
