Championship Tuesday Review

Semis: 1. Team Shlofrock (Schweitzer Title) v. 4. Team Knox (Ojibwa)

Both of these groups had realistic expectations to be the final Team standing on Tuesday Night – but both knew that it would take a ton to not just win this one but to go on and defeat #2 Team Darcy who was already waiting in the Championship Game for them. These clubs met prior to Halloween and we saw Team Shlofrock grab a 21-point W on that night. That was one of their 7 Wins during their Undefeated Season. Team Knox had turned it on after that and certainly looked like a different Team down the stretch. This would be anyone’s Game.. and that is how the Game would unfold. There were countless lead changes in this one. Captain Jake Shlofrock came up huge with several big 3s here. He finished with 24. Tremell Adams led for Team Knox with 20. Michael Pisanelli and Brandon Lathon had 16 and 15 respectively for the #1 seed while Toussaint Knox and Chris White were in double figures for their team.

The Game remained a one-possession Game until the closing moments. Team Knox would draw a foul call with about 4 seconds left and sunk the free throw to grab the lead. 76-74.  The ball would be inbounded to Jake Lerman for Team Shlofrock and he would race up the middle of the court to go for a desperation half court heave to win it.. The ball would fall short, way short.. That is because he was fouled on the attempt and find himself on the line with a chance to win it. He would hit that free throw and send #1 Team Shlofrock to the Championship Game!

For Team Knox – it was a heartbreaking finish. No doubt about it. They played well enough to win this one. It was one of those Games where it was a shame either Team had to lose.. They are always right there but are still searching for that illusive first Crown.. We’ll see them again soon. Thanks for playing!

Championship: 1. Team Shlofrock (Schweitzer Title) v.  2. Team Darcy (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.)

Minutes after their fantastic finish, #1 Team Shlofrock had to somehow regroup and get right back on the Court for the Championship against the fresh Team Darcy. #2 Team Darcy was well aware of this and pushed the tempo early. They raced out to an early lead and that really dictated the entire Game. Tim Dunlavy scored 19 to lead the Championship in scoring for Team Darcy. They had the top-4 scorers in this one actually – as Dan Turner, Sam Martinez and Captain Darcy were all in double figures. Team Darcy would win this one going away and clinch their 3rd title since the Summer of 2015! More on the Champs in a bit.

For Team Shlofrock – they gave everything they had to give.. They won in the final seconds of their Final4 Game to keep their undefeated season alive, but the real culprit here was the schedule for them. Playing back2backs in the Playoffs against a fresh team is just a lethal task. They are obviously a championship-level squad though and if/when they run this group back – a Crown is in their future. Thanks for playing!

Now to Team Darcy – once again the Champs! They did everything they needed to do in their run to the Crown. They overcame some stuff this season and still came out on top of the heap in what may have been the most competitive League we’ve seen at Windy City Fieldhouse in the past few years. They will be proud of this one, as they should be. They’ll look to get a 4th Crown in early 2018. Thanks for playing!

That’s it for the Fall Season. Thanks again for playing!
