Playoff Review

SEMIS: 1. Team Harris (CEA Study Abroad) v. 4. Team Kowalczyk (Chipotle)

A rematch from both the 2015 Championship Series where Team Kowalczyk prevailed to become the first set of Champs for this League AND the 2016 SEMIS where Team Harris avenged the Loss from 2015 to go back to their second straight Championship.. For the 3rd time these two titans of the Floor Hockey League would meet in the Playoffs with so much on the line… Only one spot existed in the Championship for them..

Team Harris started off fast as they have so often done this Season.. They built up a lead and while Team Kowalczyk would fight hard in the second period to make a comeback, it was just too much Team Harris Offense on this day.. Jason Shape had SEVEN GOALS in the Semis (and he wouldn’t be done by a long shot) and the recent Groom Jake Miller added a hat trick of is own as did Jeremy Mann. 1. Team Harris would advance to their 3rd straight Championship Game where they would look to finally hoist the Crown..

For Team Kowalczyk, it was a valiant effort in this one. They played a bit short-handed without a few mainstays and they just weren’t as impactful in the Defensive zone as we have seen from them over the years. Captain Mike had a hat trick in the final Game and Evan Vondrasek had a hat trick as well. The 2015 Champs will always be remembered as the first set of League Champs and they will try to become the first group to ever win 2 titles next Spring! Thanks for playing.

SEMIS: 2. Team Robinson (SLA Insurance) v. 3. Team Holzman (StudentCity Gray)

Team Robinson and Team Holzman have met countless times over the years but never with as much as stake here.. Team Robinson, as the Defending Champs, were determined to get back to the Championship and defend it against Team Harris. Team Holzman on the other hand was looking to crash the party and become just the 4th Franchise to make the Championship (joining the other 3 Teams that were playing on this particular Sunday)..

The Teams both wanted this Win desperately.  They traded Goals, they traded some pushes and there were a few controversial calls that didn’t help the tempers in this one.. As we entered the 3rd period though, we were tied at 6 and had just 20 minutes left to decide it.. Tyler Edwards fought the entire Game for Team Holzman, trying to will them to a victory. He ended with 4 Goals. Meanwhile for Team Robinson, they had a more balanced attack.. Captain Ted had 2 Goals as did Keith Hales and Andy Mogue.. Team Robinson would eventually get a go-ahead Goal in the 3rd period and added another en route to a 10-7 W! 1. Team Robinson would go back to the Championship Game!

For Team Holzman, they got just about as close as you can imagine to the Championship Game. They were without a few key contributors on this day and you have to think, “what could have been?” It doesn’t take away from what was an exceptional season out of them. They can win this thing next year with the exact same roster. They are that good. Thanks for playing!

CHAMPIONSHIP: 1. Team Harris (CEA Study Abroad) v. 2. Team Robinson (SLA Insurance)

So after all of the Games that were played this past Spring. Starting all the way back in March.. We were led all the way back to the exact same spot as we where we finished the 2016 Season. Team Robinson and Team Harris. For the Crown.  Could Team Robinson become the first Team in League history to win 2 Crowns? Or would Team Harris have their 3rd appearance in the Championship, finally be the charm?

As the Game got underway, Team Robinson would be the aggressor. They jumped out to an early lead and it would stay that way through the end of the first period. You would start to think, are the past Championship Losses weighing down Team Harris? From the moment the 2nd period started, the script flipped though and Team Harris would go on an absolute tear.. Jason Shape, who was a monster in the SEMIS, continued here in the Championship.. He would end the Game with EIGHT GOALS. That means he totaled FIFTEEN Goals on the League’s Final Day. He would help Team Harris grab hold of a 9-5 lead with about 8 minutes left to go. The Defending Champs Team Robinson would not go down without a fight however, and the comeback was on.. Different players on the Team were stepping up but Jared Bristol’s energy really helped the run.. They stormed back to tie it at 9 Goals a piece with about 2 minutes to go.. Another minute would go by with no Goals, so we entered the final 60 seconds of Regulation tied at 9.. With roughly 50 seconds to go the aforementioned Jason Shape would light the lamp for the final time to score the Game-Winning Goal for Team Harris! Team Harris won the 2017 Championship! More on them in just a bit..

For the 2016 Champs Team Robinson – they got as close as humanly possible to Repeating. Their comeback in the final part of the 3rd period will go down as one for the ages. They showed the heart of a Champion and it was so fun to see them dig down deep. They and Team Harris have crafted quite the rivalry over these past few years and you have to wonder if a trilogy is in store in 2018… Can one of them become the first Team to win the Crown 2x? Thanks for playing!

Now to the Champs! Team Harris has waited a LONG time for this. They were among the favorites in 2015 and lost in OT of Game 3 (we played a best of 3 series back then) to eventual Champs Team Kowalczyk. They came back with a vengeance last year only to face a similar fate. They re-grouped for 2017, and from start to finish were the best bunch in the League. They simply dominated. Jeremy Posner was fantastic in net. Captain Adam Harris helped push the pace on Offense all season long. This core has been together for years now and you have to think they have eyes on becoming the first Team to ever go Back2Back. Once you have the Crown, you want to keep it. Congrats goes out to them and especially Jake Miller who got married earlier in the week!

Thanks to everyone for another great season! We will see you again soon!
