Updated: May 24, 2017

On Sunday after we wrapped up the 7th and final Sunday of the Regular Season.  We saw #1 Team Harris complete the perfect regular season and get to 7-0. They will enter the Playoffs as the #1 seed and get a BYE to the SEMIS.  We also saw other top seeds earn victories and take pivotal momentum into the Playoff run with them. We are going to break down all of the match-ups for the first weekend of the Playoffs below. First, a reminder on format — the Opening Round (7 v. 8) and the Quarterfinals are all single-elimination Games played on Sunday June 4. Then the SEMIS change to an aggregate-scoring format. Teams will play 2 Games and the combined score from both Games will be used to determine a Winner on Sunday June 11. Then, on Sunday June June 25 we will Crown the 2017 Champs, using the Aggregate scoring format once again.

Scheduling Note — We are off on Sunday for Memorial Day and will return on Sunday June 4!

Playoff Preview

1. Team Harris (cea Study Abroad) – BYE to SEMIS

Team Harris locked up the #1 seed and BYE to the SEMIS before they even took to the rink on Sunday afternoon. They did have something to play for however, as it is very rare to be able to go 7-0 in any All Sports Series League. They did just that and without some key contributors on Sunday. They now have a couple of weeks off with Memorial Day and their BYE to heal up and get ready for what will be a grueling stretch to conclude their 3rd quest for a cup. These guys are trying to make good on what has been a long journey to the Crown. Is this finally the year?

Opening Round: 7. Team Widen (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Gold) v. 8. Team Iversen (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Purple)

These two Teams met all the way back in Week 1 where we saw Team Widen earn a solid W in what was a well-played Game. Both Teams have struggled since then and will be eager to get back on the court against one another. This is a winnable Game for both Teams. Team Iversen will be looking for their first W of the Season (and in Franchise history) while Team Widen is a group that has gotten to the SEMIS before and is unchartered territory being in the Opening Round. Defense is likely going to be the deciding factor here. Both Teams have solid goalie play and whichever group keeps theirs the cleanest will move on.. The Winner here gets Defending Champs 2. Team Robinson in the Quarters.

Quarters: 2. Team Robinson (SLA Insurance) v. 7/8

Team Robinson enters their title defense as the #2 seed. They went 6-1 in what was another very impressive Regular Season for them. Their lone blemish was to Team Harris a few weeks back and the way the bracket unfolded, we could be headed for a Rematch of the 2016 Championship with those two squads on a collision course. Before that though they will need to go through some worth adversaries. They will take on the Winner of #7 Team Widen and #8 Team Iversen. This is not one they should take lightly.. Whoever their opponent is, will come in with some real momentum and likely feeling better than they have all season.. If they play their best though, the Defending Champs will move on to the SEMIS.

Quarters: 3. Team Holzman (StudentCity Gray) v. 6. Team Bayer (StudentCity Neon)

These two Teams locked-up just a couple of weeks back and we saw Team Holzman escape with 8-7 W in what was a really well-played Game on both sides.  Team Holzman has their highest seed ever heading into the Playoffs and they are eager to finally take the next step past the SEMIS and into the Championship. As evidenced by the first contest between these two Teams, them advancing is no sure thing.. Team Bayer has been solid all season long despite what their record shows. They have been in many Games and just haven’t been able to get Wins in close ones. They have the talent necessary to pull the upset here and this contest could steal the show on Sunday June 4!

Quarters: 4. Team Kowalczyk (Chipotle) v. 5. Team Snyder (Spikeball)

Last but not least is what should be our best match-up of the day on paper.. Team Kowalczyk won the Floor Hockey League back in 2015 and have been perennial favorites since their inception.. They are used to carrying a higher seed into the Playoffs though and it may be a tougher road for them normal.. Enter the Rookie squad of Team Snyder who looked very strong in the season’s second-half. They have had some time to rest and get to full-strength for what will be their very first All Sports Series Playoff run.. Something has to give here.. Only one team will get a chance to duke it out with the #1 seed Team Harris in the SEMIS.  This one should be fun!

That’s it for the Preview. Enjoy Memorial Day and see everyone back here on June 4!
