On Sunday Afternoon the Playoffs began in the Chicago Floor Hockey League for the 3rd time.. Teams Robinson and Kowalczyk would start their journey trying to grab their 2nd Crown while the other Teams in the League were attempting to earn their first.. That of course, includes, #1 Seed Team Harris who earned a BYE to the SEMIS with their Undefeated Regular Season. We had some really great action on Sunday and we’ll review all of that below.

Scheduling Note — We will have the SEMIS and CHAMPIONSHIP on Sunday June 25!

Playoff Review

Opening Round: 7. Team Widen (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Gold) v. 8. Team Iversen (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Purple)

Team Widen will be the first to admit they have had more successful Regular Seasons in the past but they know how to win Games in the Playoffs and came in to Sunday expecting to do just that.. Team Iversen was looking for their first Playoff W as a unit. Steve Prioletti had 5 Goals for Team Widen to really help dictate the entire Game for them. Captain Jason helped with 2 Goals and 2 assists. Vinny DalCerro was strong in between the pipes too and Team Widen advanced by the score of 10-6. They would move on to play Defending Champs #2 Team Robinson immediately after this one.

For Team Iversen, they did not leave with their desired result but they grew together as a unit as the Season went on. Captain Jeff was solid in net all season long and Antonio Bonifazi added a couple more goals in the season finale to boost his scoring numbers as well. This group is missing just a piece or two and could really contend next year with the right off-season acquisition. Thank you for playing!

Quarters: 2. Team Robinson (SLA Insurance) v. 7. Team Widen (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Gold)

Fresh off their Opening Round Win, Team Widen came in tired but feeling good.. Awaiting them was the Defending Champs #2 Team Robinson. Only one Team could move on to the SEMIS and Team Robinson wasn’t ready to release their grasp on the Crown. Not by a long shot. Brad M Jorgensen and Jeff Sampson had 2 Goals in this one for the Champs. Nick Andriacchi and Captain Ted had multiple points as well. Brian Littleton also turned away a bunch of strong opportunities from the Team Widen attack and in doing so, helped lock up the spot in the SEMIS for Team Robinson!

For Team Widen, it is a tall order to defeat Team Robinson when fresh and at full strength let alone coming in on the back-end of a Double Header. Captain Jason and co. kept it close for the first part of the Game and then just ran out of Gas as the Game went on.. These guys are always on the cusp of being elite (forget what the record was this year), with a few additions they could hoist the Crown a year from now. Thanks for playing!

Quarters: 3. Team Holzman (StudentCity Gray) v. 6. Team Bayer (StudentCity Neon)

In what was the Main Event of the day, we got a great contest between Teams Holzman and Bayer. The lead would bounce back and forth throughout. Goalies made fantastic saves and the Offenses really needed to dig deep to score.. Team Bayer had a lead at 4-2 in the second period.. Entering the 3rd period it was 4-3 Bayer… Holzman’s group, many of which have been playing together for years, know this is their best chance at a Crown and dug down deep.. Matt Pedemonti and EJ Silver had amazing 3rd periods for Team Holzman as they stormed back to score 5 Goals in the 3rd Period and take the Game 8-4 in what was as exciting of a Game as we’ll see.

For Team Bayer, which was led by Co-Captain Joey Sanchez, it’s a bittersweet end. They could have had this Game and just needed 10 more minutes of excellent hockey. It does show a lot of promise for what could be a really successful future for them. Hope to see them back as a unit next year. Thanks for playing!

That’s it for the Opening Rounds, we’ll see the Final4 Teams back on June 25 to Crown the Champs!
