2017 Chicago Floor Hockey – Playoff Scenarios (May 7)

Updated: May 11, 2017

On Sunday we completed our 6th afternoon of Games, leaving just one weekend left of the Regular Season! We are going to break down all of the Playoff Scenarios below. We do know that Team Harris is going to be #1 Seed after getting to 6-0 on Sunday and holding a tiebreaker over Team Robinson (the only Team that can catch them). As a reminder on Playoff Format (it will be identical to 2016) — The #1 seed gets a BYE to the Semis.  There will be an Opening Round Game between the 7 and 8 seeds. The Winner there plays the #2 seed. The Quarters will be Single-Elimination. Once we are down to 4 Teams, they will be paired-off for Double Headers, where the combined score from both Games determines the Winner. The Championship Game will be the same way (2 Games, combined score takes it). Let’s break down the scenarios.

Scheduling Note — We are off on Sunday for Mother’s Day and will return on Sunday May 21!

Playoff Scenarios

1. Team Harris (cea Study Abroad) – 6-0 – LOCKED #1 SEED

As mentioned at the top, Team Harris locked up the #1 seed on Sunday afternoon. Jason Shape scored SIX Goals to help lead his squad to the W over Team Widen.  They know that they will get a BYE to the Final4 (which is huge with the kind of talent in the League). They will take on old Rivals Team Kowalczyk in Week 7 when they try to earn the perfect Regular Season.

2. Team Robinson (SLA Insurance) – 5-1 – LOCKED #2 Seed.

The math for the Defending Champs is simple. They can pull even with Team Harris in the Loss Column if Team Harris Loses on Sunday, but they’d lose a tiebreaker (head to head) with them. So they cannot move up and for the same reason they cannot be caught by either Team Holzman or Team Kowalczyk — as they defeated both of those Teams head to head. So the Defending Champs will begin their quest for Back2Back Crowns as the #2 overall seed. They will take on the Winner of the 7/8 Opening Round Game in the Quarters.  They try to keep momentum going into the Playoffs when they take on Team Widen to close out the Regular Season.

3. Team Holzman (StudentCity Gray) – 4-2

Team Holzman is in the driver’s seat for the #3 seed. If they win in Week 7, it is theirs. Even if Team Kowalaczyk goes 2-0 on the final Sunday of the season, Team Holzman defeated them head to head and control the tiebreaker.  Team Holzman plays Team Iversen in Week 7.  Now, if Team Holzman falls in Week 7 and Team Kowalczyk goes 2-0, then Team Holzman would fall to the #4 seed.. Important Game upcoming for these guys.

4. Team Kowalczyk (Chipotle) – 3-2

The 2015 Champs have a big final day ahead of them.. As of right now they are sitting in the #4 spot but they have 2 Games remaining. If they win at least one of those, they will finish no worse than #4. If they go 2-0 and Team Holzman loses in Week 7, they can jump up to #3. Team Kowalczyk will take on both Team Bayer AND current Undefeated #1 Team Harris to close out the season.. Forget the seeds, if they can go 2-0 it will do a lot to shake-up the League momentum wise heading into the Playoffs. #1 Harris has established themselves as the clear cut front-runners right now, as they have been running through everyone. These two Teams have quite the history. Get the popcorn ready.

5. Team Snyder (Spikeball) – 3-4 – LOCKED #5

Team Snyder actually finished up the Regular Season (they started with 2 Games in Week 1) and will get some extra rest in Week 7. Jon Lind was unreal with FIVE Goals on Sunday. Due to tiebreakers they are going to be the #5 seed when the Playoffs begin. They’ll take on either Team Holzman or Team Kowalczyk in the Quarterfinals. That could be the highlight of the first day of the Hockey Playoffs.

6. Team Bayer (StudentCity Neon) – 2-4 – LOCKED #6

Team Bayer will take on Team Kowalczyk during Week 7.  They will be playing for momentum and continued chemistry. They cannot catch Team Snyder due to Tiebreakers and the same goes for Team Widen, who trails Team Bayer by a Game.. Team Bayer defeated them head to head earlier in the season. That means #6 Team Bayer will start in the quarters against whoever is the #3 seed between Teams Holzman and Kowalczyk.. They avoid the extra Opening Round Game and are a dark horse to make a run to the Cup here.

7. Team Widen (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Gold) – 1-5 – LOCKED #7

8. Team Iversen (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Purple) – 0-6 – LOCKED #8

We are going to take these two together this week as they are the first set Playoff match-up. Team Widen and Team Iversen will compete in the Opening Round Single Elimination Game to start the Playoffs in a few weeks and the Winners there will move on to face Defending Champs and #2 seeded Team Robinson in the Quarters. These Teams have what it takes to shock the world and Week 7 will be used for them to make any adjustments necessary before the second-season begins.

That’s it for the Scenarios. We’ll see you on Sunday May 21!
