2017 Chicago Men’s “All Sports” Week 5 – (July 17)

We went back to the basketball courts in Week 5 because Week 4 was just so great. Team Stone beat Team Hubner in a thrilling overtime game and Teams Kornblatt and Zimmerman both won to stay undefeated on the year. Keep reading to find out what else happened in Week 5…

Power Rankings

1. Team Zimmerman (Sunset Foods) – In 2nd with 79 points

In the All Sports Series “Game of the Week” (aired on ESPN2), Team Zimmerman handed Team Dorfman their first loss of the season, beating them 88-81. The man of the hour was Esto Vega, who scored 45 (!!) points in the win. The defending champs will look to jump up to the #1 seed in the standings next week with a matchup against Team Roberson in Softball.


2. Team Kornblatt (RightFit Personal Training) – In 1st with 84 points

Team Kornblatt has had the opportunity to gain 84 points this season so far, and they have taken advantage of all of their opportunities. Their most recent win came against Team Lehrman in basketball, winning 71-64. Adam Goldberg had 22 points to lead the team to victory. Up next for them is Team Dorfman in Hockey. 


3. Team Dorfman (Hakimian Imports) –   In 3rd with 71 points

Team Dorfman lost their first game of the season this week in an epic battle against Team Zimmerman. Jake Lerman scored 24 points for the team but it just wasn’t enough to overcome the 7 point deficit. They look to get back into the win column next week against Team Kornblatt in a very important Hockey match.


4. Team Stone (Chipotle) – In 4th with 39 points

Team Stone won another thrilling basketball game this week, beating Team Hubner 61-58 in OT. 3 basketball wins in a row have bumped them up to 4th place in the standings. Cole Rodby scored 31 points in the game, many of which were from behind the arc. They will take on Team Lehrman in Softball next week. 


5. Team Lehrman – In 6th with 20 points

Team Lehrman battled with the undefeated Team Kornblatt in Hoops this week, but couldn’t pull out the victory. Daniel Barnes scored 20 points but the team came up just 7 points short. Team Lehrman hopes to pick up a W next week against Team Stone in Softball.


Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Apuli (Rockin’ Refuel) – Tied for 7th with 0 points

Team Apuli lost their second consecutive heartbreaker this week, dropping their basketball game to Team Roberson by only 2 points on a buzzer-beater layup. Justin Apuli scored 16 points in the near win. They go for win #1 of the year next week against the winless Team Hubner in Hockey.


Team Hubner (Biaggi’s) – Tied for 7th with 0 points

Team Hubner had the definition of a bad beat in basketball this week, having many opportunites in regulation to pick up their first win of the year, but eventually losing 58-61 in OT against Team Stone. Ross Johnson scored 17 points for the squad. They play winless Team Apuli next week in a Hockey game.


Team Roberson (Live Clean CHI) – In 5th with 33 points

Team Roberson won their basketball game against Team Apuli on a breakaway layup buzzer beater this week. Miguel Valdez led the team with 9 points in this low-scoring affair. They take on Team Zimmerman in Softball next week.
