2017 Chicago Men’s “All Sports” Week 7 – (July 31)

Updated: August 3, 2017

Following a fun and competitive Volleyball Tourney to conclude the Regular Season on Monday Night, we were able to fully set the field for the Playoffs that will begin on Monday Aug. 7.  Teams Zimmerman and Kornblatt came into the Volleyball Tourney tied atop the Standings and when Team Zimmerman defeated Team Kornblatt in the Semi-Final of the Tourney, they secured their spot as the #1 seed. That means the 2x Champs and #1 Team Zimmerman were afforded a choice of where to start their quest for the 3peat. They decided to take the BYE to the Final4 and play Softball. That meant Team Kornblatt as the #2 seed would play the Winner of the 7/8 Opening Round Game in either Hoops or Hockey. Team Kornblatt elected Floor Hockey. More on all of this below in the Playoff Preview!

Playoff Preview

Opening Rd (Hockey):
7. Team Apuli (Rockin’ Refuel) v. 8. Team Hubner (Biaggi’s)

We start here in the Opening Round between Team Apuli and Team Hubner.  Both Teams have played better than your typical “play in” Teams so you can expect there to be a lot of talent on the floor in this one. With #2 Team Kornblatt electing Hockey for their Quarterfinal Game against the Winner of this, Hockey was then the Game for this contest as well. These two Teams met in Hockey just a couple weeks back actually, where Team Apuli won by a TD. However, that Game stayed close into the 3rd period and the score does not reflect just how close the contest was.. It will be anyone’s Game and the Winner will move on to face #2 Team Kornblatt with some momentum right away…

Quarters (Hockey):
2. Team Kornblatt (RightFit Personal Training) v. Winner 7/8

Team Kornblatt got points in their 7th consecutive week on Monday in Volleyball as they finished 3rd in the Tourney. Unfortunately for them, Team Zimmerman finished first and nudged them out of the top spot in the Standings for the Playoffs. When Team Zimmerman elected Softball, Team Kornblatt had the choice between Hoops and Hockey and they went with historical data.. They chose Hockey. It would be an instant classic if Rivals Team Apuli were to get through the Opening Round and take on Team Kornblatt with a spot in the Final4 on the line.. This was the exact spot Team Kornblatt found themselves in a year ago.. They have been counting down the days toward retribution.. Their core hasn’t been to a Final4 in years and they have played so well this season.. Is this finally the year? The Winner here will play another Hockey Game right away.. Against whoever wins the #3 Dorfman v. #6 Team Roberson Hoops Game.

Quarters (Hoops):
3. Team Dorfman (Hakimian Imports) v. 6. Team Roberson (Fox in a Box)

Team Dorfman locked up the 3 seed as C0-Captains Dan Dorfman and Joe Hakimian, along with the rest of their core, they try to grab their 3rd ever “All Sports” League Crown in the next couple of weeks. They are taking on a Team that is venturing into their first All Sports Series League Playoffs as a unit.. So two polar opposites here. Their sport will be Hoops which will certainly favor Team Dorfman. They can thank Team Kornblatt for choosing Hockey for that.. The Winner here will take on the Winner of #2 Team Kornblatt and 7/8 in Floor Hockey at the conclusion of this Hoops Game. There is always one shocker during the Opening Night of the Playoffs, could this be it??

Quarters (Softball):
4. Team Lehrman (The Bucket List) v. 5. Team Stone (Chipotle)

Of all the Games on Opening Night of the Playoffs, this should be the closest match-up and that is what we’d expect from the 4/5 Game. These two Teams met in Week 6 and saw Team Lehrman win a close 5-4 Game on the diamond. There is no reason to think that we shouldn’t expect another nail-biter here. For the Winners.. They move on to the Final4 and try to do something that no Team in this League has done since 2014 — defeat Team Zimmerman in an “All Sports” League Playoff Game. They will take the field right away and can hopefully take the momentum they gain into that pivotal match-up.

Final4 (Softball):
1. Team Zimmerman (Sunset Foods) v. Winner 4/5

#1 Team Zimmerman, who are the Back2Back Champs of course, earned the right to be the #1 seed on Monday Night by completing the perfect Regular Season and taking home the Volleyball Tourney title. With the top seed came a choice and they elected to go straight to the Final4 and compete in Softball against the Winner of the 4/5 Game.. So they know they will be on the diamond against either Team Lehrman or Stone with a trip to the Championship for the 4th straight Summer on the line. We haven’t seen a 3peat before in All Sports Series (never ever) and they are now just 2 wins away!

Final4 (Hockey)

Winner of 2/7/8 v. Winner of 3/6

That’s it for this week. Good Luck to everyone!
