Updated: April 4, 2017

and we’re back! For many of the Teams who played in the first session of the Spring Hoops League, it was a very short off-season.. As a reminder to all — Team Darcy finished the first session as Undefeated Champions as they get their 2nd Crown in Franchise history.. They got the Championship W over Runners-Up Team Unger.. Team Unger defeated Team Horwitz (fka Team Karmin).. All 3 of those Teams are back along with Team Kaplan, Team Halperin, Team Glass (fka Team Amzaleg) and Team Jiminez (fka Team Winegardner). Those 7 Teams are joined by All Sports Series vet Mack Watts who leads a Team of mostly Rookies into this Season.. Then there is Team Dean, who has a similar story to Team Watts.. They are Captained by vet Tred Dean who leads a Team of mostly Rookies into the campaign. We also saw Team Indy – a team full of Rookies – get their first taste of All Sports Series.. In Week 2, we’ll see the debuts of two strong squads – Teams Deutsch and Shlofrock. Can anyone dethrone the Champs!?

Power Rankings

1. Team Darcy – 1-0

Where to start but with the Defending Champs? They have now won 11 in a row dating back to the start of the First Session. That is quite the run. They bring back virtually 100% of their Roster. They faced Team Dean on Thursday and picked up right where they left off. They were hot from the start and took that an early lead all the way to the end. Tim Dunlavy led the entire League in scoring with 27 points on Thursday. They look to get to 2-0 on Thursday against #4 Team Kaplan.

2. Team Unger – 1-0

Earning the right to start at #2 this Season is Team Unger. They made it all the way to the Championship Game last session and did not allow for a Championship hangover as they got right back to the court on the following Thursday. They return the core from that Roster while making a few tweaks along the way. Ryan Lederman stayed hot from the Playoffs and had 25 on Opening Night to help guide Captain Max Unger and co. to the Win over Team Halperin 76-65. Judd Barron had 15 in this one as well. They look to get 2-0 this coming Thursday against Team Deutsch in what could be the Game of the Night.

3. Team Horwitz – 1-0

Following their Fina4 run in the first session, Team Horwitz knew they’d need to bring it this Season. They won’t be able to sneak up on anyone as they did last time.. Their Roster has been overhauled since last time as they have added Drake Orser full time and picked up Phil Hayes from Team Tucci. They had a big lead over Team Watts in Week 1 but watched it get squandered away and Team Watts actually forced OT.. In OT, Team Watts took the 2 point lead after a shot fell with just 4 seconds left.. Roshan Thakker was inbounded the ball and let one go at the buzzer from 3/4 court.. Off the Glass.. and IN!  You have to watch the Highlight Video for this shot alone. Just incredible. These guys were all but done and snatched the Win in the final second. They look to capitalize on the momentum and get to 2-0 against Team Indy on Thursday.

4. Team Kaplan – 1-0

Team Kaplan got a big Week 1 Win against Team Jiminez on Thursday Night. They were one of the more impressive Teams last season and bring back the entire group plus adding Zach Kaufman who makes is much anticipated All Sports Series debut this Season. Captain Brett led the way on Offense, scoring 25 points to help secure the W. Jake Preskill chipped in 20 points as well. Their toughest test of the season awaits on Thursday.. They get Defending Champs Team Darcy. Should be a great Game.

5. Team Glass – 1-0

Rounding out the Top-5 is Team Glass. They were known as Team Amzaleg last time around. Much of their Team is back but they have added some guys who are coming out of All Sports Series retirement for this Season. Sam Harris and Jeff Wolfe and Brian McWeeney all make their returns. They join with Ian Bohan, who had 20 points on Thursday Night to make a very formidable squad. It has been some time since we have seen some of the original Team Glass and it may be perfect timing for them to finally grab that Crown. They face Team Halperin on Thursday Night.

6. Team Dean – 0-1

Team Dean is led by All Sports Series vet Tred Dean. He is joined by a few familiar faces but many of his crew are making their All Sports Series debuts this Spring. They are a talented bunch that had a tough assignment with the Defending Champs in Week 1. This is a group that is going to ascend up the Standings and the Power Rankings in no time. Harry Clarke had 22, Brian Daly had 18 and Captain Tred had 16 in this one. They look to pull back to .500 in Week 2 against Team Jiminez, who will also be searching for their first W.

7. Team Halperin – 0-1

Team Halperin took on the tough Team Unger in Week 1 but they are a group that also improved in the brief off-season. They are adding a few heavy-hitters familiar with All Sports Series.. Jeff Shukis, Adam Rhum plus Nick Nolan and Alex Rubin (both of whom will debut in Week 2) are all playing under the Team Halperin banner this Spring and that is quite the formidable crew to go alongside Captain Joey and co. Rhum went for 20 in his debut with this squad. They look to get their first W of the season against Team Glass.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Indy – 0-1

Team Indy is the only complete Rookie Team this Season. It will take them a bit of time to really get going as they have never suited up with one another. They do have some talent and that was quickly visible. Robert Balcerzak went for 16 in his debut. They are going to be just fine, and will likely improve a ton in the second half of the season. They get #3 Team Horwitz on Thursday Night.

Team Jiminez – 0-1

Team Jiminez is back this Season with Alex Jiminez leading the charge.. They are adding a host of new pieces and it may take a few weeks for them to gel, but they are extremely talented. Their leading scorer was George Santizo who had 16 points in his debut performance. Jonathon Frosolone had 14 and Myles Davis returned to All Sports Series and scored double figures. Teams will be happy to catch them early as they are going to be tough to handle in May. They get Team Dean in Week 2 – both Teams are searching for their first W.

Team Watts – 0-1

Last but certainly not least is Team Watts. Remember, this part of the Rankings is alphabetical! Team Watts would have come in at #8, and likely should have been higher up. They made a valiant comeback to force OT after being down by 15 in their Week 1 Game against Team Horwitz. Evan Lugo scored 17 in his All Sports Series debut.. The final 2 were the biggest as he hit a go-ahead shot with just 4 seconds left in the extra-session.. Unfortunately, for Team Watts, 4 seconds was a bit too much time, as Team Horwitz would hurl a last second prayer off the backboard and it somehow landed in the bucket at the buzzer. These guys are going to be just fine. Captain Mack has been through just about everything in All Sports Series and he’ll have his boys ready to go in Week 2. They get Team Shlofrock on Thursday.

That’s it for Week 1! See everyone on Thursday for Week 2!
