2017 Chicago Summer TUESDAY Hoops – Week 3 (June 27)

By
Updated: July 1, 2017

Tuesday Night was just the latest example of the amount of talent that is running through the Summer Hoops Leagues. We saw 3 of last week’s Top-4 lose on Tuesday Night and somehow none of them seemed like huge upsets. That is because this League is so deep with a TON of potential Champs.. We need to give a shout-out to the final Team left unbeaten — the Rookies known as Team Schultz. These guys have rattled off 3 straight wins to start their Franchise off and they don’t seem intent on slowing down anytime soon.  Scroll down to see where they fall in the Rankings.

Scheduling Note: We are off on Tuesday for July 4 but will return on Tuesday July 11!

Power Rankings

1. Team Maione (Rockin’ Refuel) – 2-1

Team Maione came out in Week 3 and got a huge victory against former #2 Team Clark. This Team is officially 2-1 this season and have gotten 2 straight Wins after a less than stellar start in Week 1. They have more than put that Game behind them though. The leading scorers were Andy Timson, scoring 28 and Chris Wroblewski with 21. On July 11, they hope to continue their dominance against Team Darcy in what will be one of the co-Main Events of the evening.

2. Team Schultz (Biaggi’s) – 3-0

#2 Team Schultz remains the only undefeated team in the Tuesday Hoops League after 3 weeks. This Tuesday’s Game against Team Geocaris was an extremely close one with a final score of 75-73, but Team Schultz pulled through to get the Win. You often see Rookie squads drop those close Games early on but they are bucking the trend. The Team was led by Joel Pennington, with 18 points. They are clearly one of the most talented Teams in the League and hope to continue their win streak against Team Farris in Week 4.

3. Team Dean (Crystal Lake CDJ) – 2-1

After a perfect 2-0 start to the Tuesday Summer season, Team Dean suffered a 73-94 loss to Team Darcy in Week 3. They had been looking forward to this Rematch but it didn’t go the way they had hoped.. The Dean squad is a very talented group of athletes and will be sure to be stick around the top of the Rankings for the rest of the season. During this weeks game, the team was lead by Marian Knezovic, with 15 points. On July 11, they look for vengeance against Team Rubin.

4. Team Clark (Schweitzer Title) – 2-1

Former #2 Team Clark had a rough week 3 in the Tuesday Hoops League with their first Loss of the Season.  The leading scorers on the Team were team Captain, Rodney Clark who scored 22, and Devin Demby who put up 21. Team Clark is, with no question, an elite team in the league and will be sure to head into week 4 with a full head of steam against a very formidable Team Unger who will also be coming off their first Loss.

5. Team Schur (SLA Insurance) – 2-1

Rounding out the Top-5 this week is Team Schur.  What a nail biter we had in their Game against Team Unger. Team Schur was coming off a big Week 2 win, winning by 59, and looked to get on a 2-Game win streak. This Game was a battle with players Tyler Max and Scott Fenton putting up big numbers scoring 22 and 19. Coming down to the final minutes, Team Schur pulls off the 72-69 W. They will take on Team Geocaris in Week 4 on July 11.

6. Team Shlofrock (Sandusky Lee) – 2-1

After coming off a Week 2 loss, Team Shlofrock was determined to get a Week 3 W. Team Shlofrock absolutely dominated this game winning by 81 points. Alan Roberts and Warren Poetzing put on a clinic scoring 24 and 20 for their team. Team Shlofrock wins 109-28 for Week 3. They will take on Team Brystkowski July 11th where the league will be watching if they can put up those numbers once again.

7. Team Darcy (The Bucket List) – 1-2

Team Darcy gets their first win of the season against familiar foes Team Dean in a 94-73 victory. The Team was led by Sam Martinez who scored 26 points and Tim Dunlavy putting up 24. Team Darcy showed why they have been on of the Hoops Leagues’ very best over the past few years and we are excited to see what the future has in store for them.   The team hopes to continue their roll in Week 4 against familiar summer league foes – #1 Team Maione.

8. Team Unger (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Purple) – 2-1

Team Unger gets their first loss of the season during an extremely close game against Team Schur. The final score was 69-Unger and 72-Schur. The leading scorer for Team Unger were Judd Baron who shot the lights out with 36 points. They look to bounce back on July 11th against a very talented #4 Team Clark.  The Loser in that one will have all of a sudden lost two in a row and be back at .500 after a hot start.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Brystkowski (CEA Study Abroad) – 0-3

Team Brystkowski has had a rough start this season, in terms of W/L Record and had a close game against Team Rubin in Week 3. The Team was led by Jeremy Goodman, with 20 points. They just need to get their first dub and the rest will come. This Team is sure to find their rhythm in weeks to come and will work their way up the leaderboards. Next week they hope to bounce back against Team Shlofrock.

Team Farris (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Blue) – 0-3

Coming off a slow start from the first two weeks, Team Farris was looking to pick up their first win. Players, Anton Jeludkov and Tobin Hwang tried lifting their team to their first victory, however they came up short unfortunately. They were just overmatched. It happens. On to the next one. Undefeated #2 Team Schultz is up next.

Team Geocaris (Chipotle) – 1-2

After a 1-1 start, Team Geocaris suffers a tough 2-point loss in a big Game against Team Schultz. The teams’ efforts were led by Alex Nadelman, with 18 points. This game showed that Team Geocaris can compete with the best Teams in the League and should not be slept on this season. Next week they play Team Schur to improve themselves back to a .500 record.

Team Rubin (Chicago Trolley) – 1-2

After a slow start, Team Rubin came out in Week 3 and earned an 82-70 victory against Team Brystkowski. This Team is filled with great athletes and can turn their season around with the blink of an eye. The team was led by Ed Streit, with 22 points. On July 11, they hope to continue their roll against a very talented Team Dean squad.

That’s it for Week 3. Have a great holiday!
