2017 College/Prep 16″ Softball – Weeks 3&4 (July 9)

I hope that everyone had a great 4th of July Break and enjoyed the holiday and their time off the diamond. We headed back out to the fields the past Sunday to play America’s favorite sport, 16″ softball. Continue reading to see how teams did after the mid-Summer Break…

Power Rankings

1. Team Valvassori (Sarkis Cafe) – 4-0

Team Valvassori took full advantage of Double Header Sunday, winning both of their games by the scores of 7-0 and 11-1, beating teams Mordini and Herz, respectively. David Laser went 3-3 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs in Game 1, and followed suit in Game 2 with 2 more RBIs and 1 Run. They look to continue their undefeated season next week against Team Beltrano.

 

2. Team Pulfer (StudentCity) – 4-0

The other undefeated team this season had a great weekend, as they beat Team Marras 3-2 and Team Balkan 8-4. Jon Chaikan went 2-3 with an RBI in Game 1 and Max Kaplan went 3-3 with 2 runs in Game 2. Team Wellek looks to hand Team Pulfer their first loss next week. 

 

3. Team Wellek (Spikeball) – 3-1

Team Wellek split their double header this weekend, losing a heartbreaker to Team Balkan 6-7, but quickly bounced back by beating Team Marras 6-3. Gurvey went 3-5 with 2 RBIs and 1 Run in Game 1 and Zach Nankin went 4-5 with 2 RBIs and 3 Runs, including 1 HR in Game 2. They look to keep up with Teams Valvassori and Pulfer in the standings, and they have the perfect opportunity against Team Pulfer next week.

 

4. Team Beltrano (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.) – 3-1

Like Team Wellek, Team Beltrano lost their undefeated season during the double header, smoking Team Herz 13-1 but then falling a little short to Team Mordini, losing by only 1 run. Jack Chapman went 3-4 with 1 Run in Game 1 and Matt Brown went 2-3 with 1 HR 1 RBI and 2 Runs in Game 2. They will have a tough match next week against Team Valvassori. 

 

5. Team Balkan (Dr. Jacob D.D.S) – 1-3

Team Balkan picked up a nice win against Team Wellek, handing them their first loss of the season by the score of 7-6. However, they couldn’t ride that momentum into the 2nd game of the double header, losing 4-8 to Team Pulfer. Alec Benjamin went 3-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 Runs in Game 1 and Captain Balkan went 2-3 with 2 RBIs in Game 2. Up next for them is Team Herz.

 

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Herz (CEA Study Abroad) – 0-4

Team Herz dropped both games of the double header, losing to Teams Valvassori and Beltrano. Andy Pollack went 2-3 with 1 RBI in Game 1 and Max Kossof went 2-2 with 1 Run in Game 2. They go for their first win of the season next week against Team Balkan.

 

Team Marras (ALX Salon) – 0-4

Team Marras has yet to pick up a win this season, losing twice on Sunday by the scores of 2-3 and 3-6. Elliot fisher went 2-3 with 1 RBI in Game 1 and Jake Boyer went 2-3 with 1 RBI and 1 Run in Game 2. Like Team Herz, they will try to win their first game of the season next week against Team Mordini. 

 

Team Mordini (NKFI) – 1-3

Team Mordini dropped game one of the double header, getting shut out by Team Valvassori 0-7, but picked up their first win of the season against Team Beltrano in Game 2. Jason Shullruff went 1-3 in Game 1 and Halvard went 3-3 with 1 HR 1 RBI and 1 Run in Game 2. They look to pick up another win next week against Team Marras.
