Power Rankings

1. Team SAE (Spare Time Orange) – 1-0

Team SAE comes in at #1 for the first set of Power Rankings in 2017.  In a Week where we saw many impressive performances, Team SAE stood out with the largest margin of victory on Opening Night. Led by Captain Ryan Vassar they took on Team AEPi and came away looking like an unstoppable force. Conner Archey had 27 points to lead the League in scoring for Week 1. They will take on Team SAM1 in Week 2 where they look to continue their hot start.

2. Team Rijos (Campus View Apartments White) – 1-0

Team Rijos is led by Captain Parker Rijos who has more All Sports Series experience than any other player in the East Lansing League this Spring. That is a really big advantage as he has been through it all.. They earned a 37-point victory over Team SAM2 and obviously looked strong in the process. Captain Parker would lead the Team in scoring with 23 points on the night. They have their eyes set on the #1 spot and will try to take it over with a dominating performance against SAM3 in Week 2.

3. Team Pi Kapp (Campus View Apartments Blue) – 1-0

Team Pi Kapp is led by Captain Austin Murray. They took on Team SAM3 and came home with a 17 point W on Sunday Night. Grant Szalewski and Kyle Matheson both went for 20 on Opening Night to help lead the charge for this well-rounded club. Their depth was on full display in this one and should help them stay healthy and fresh throughout the long season. They have a big-time match-up coming in Week 2.. It will be the StudentCity Game of the Week as they take on #4 Team Theta Chi.

4. Team Theta Chi (Campus View Apartments Black) – 1-0

Team Theta Chi, Captained by James Claborn, got the first Win of the Season in 2017. They showed enough in Week 1 to prove they have enough to claim the final Win in the 2017 season when the Championship is decided at the end of April… Captain Claborn led the Team with double figures in scoring on Opening Night as they jumped out to a big lead and then held on against SAM1.. They look to jump into at least the Top-3 in the Rankings in Week 2 when they take on #3 Pi Kapp on Sunday Night.

5. Team SAM1 (Campus View Apartments Red) – 0-1

Rounding out the Top-5 this week is Team SAM1.  These guys fell behind by double figures early to Team Theta Chi on Opening Night but they didn’t go down without a fight. They battled all the way back in the second-half and cut the lead to just 4 points before running out of gas in the last stretch of the Game. They had just 6 players in uniform on Sunday Night compared to nearly twice that for Theta Chi and their legs just left them.. Jake Feldman and Michael Klar both had 13 points in the comeback attempt. They look to get their first W of the Season against #1 SAE in Week 2.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team AEPi (Ella Designs) – 0-1

Team AEPi is one of the younger squads in the League. They may take a couple of weeks to figure everything out as a young crew but the talent there is evident. These guys can play.. Ben Mendlen led the Team in scoring with 15 points on Opening Night. They turn their sights to Team SAM2 where the Winner can pull back even to .500 and one of them can jump into the Top-5 a week from now!

Team SAM2 (Schweitzer Title) – 0-1

Team SAM2 showed nice balance in Week 1, they just came across on of the League’s best Teams in Team Rijos on Opening Night. Ryan Tokowitz led the Team in scoring in Week 1 and he looks like he can maybe a go to guy for them as the season wages on. In Week 2, they will take on Team AEPi, another group searching for their first Win.. A spot in the Top-5 awaits the Winner of that one.

Team SAM3 (cea Study Abroad) – 0-1

Remember, this section is in alphabetical order!  Ryan Tokowitz was the second-highest scorer of the night in the entire League during Week 1. He had 26 in their Game against Pi Kapp last Sunday Night. This group showed a lot of effort and they were certainly short-handed. When their full roster is in attendance this is a Team with a lot of promise. They will take on #2 Team Rijos in Week 2.

That’s it for the Week 1 Rankings. Good Luck in Week 2!
