Championship Tuesday Review

The stage was set on Championship Tuesday with the Semis and the Championship. We had #2 KSig JR taking on #6 AEPi (who had upset Defending Champs #3 Fiji the week prior) with #5 DU already qualifying for the Championship and waiting for the Winner.

#2 KSig JR entered the Semis with #6 AEPi as the favorites – having the better record and defeating AEPi by 11 in the Regular Season as well – however, AEPi had just pulled off a major upset in the Quarters.. So anything could truly happen here. Peter Poggioli went for 21 for KSig JR while Paul Cushing had 14 and Captain Luke had a dozen to give KSig JR a nice balanced attack. They’d control this one for most of the Game.. Still, Ben Kohl, Charlie Taxman and Max Goshen were in double figures for AEPi too. Eventually, KSig JR was able to wrap it up 62-49 and punch their ticket back to the Championship Game for the second straight year! For AEPi, it was definitely a disappointing end, but this season had a ton of highlights for them.. Most notably, their huge Win to start the Playoffs over Defending Champs Team Fiji. Captain Jordan Marsh and co. will be back for their Senior campaign next Fall. Thanks for playing!

With the Win in the Semis, #2 KSig JR would look to get their 2nd Win of the Night and this one was for all the marbles. The rested #5 DU squad was waiting in the ‘ship for them. These Teams had met back in October and #2 KSig JR had gotten the win on that night.. Sweeping a Playoff Double Header though was going to be a different beast.. KSig JR started fast – riding their momentum from the Semis – Peter Poggioli had 20 for the second time on the night. Captain Luke was again in double figures for them as was Mike Willis. For DU, Captain Jack Wells scored 22. Turner Longyear and Jack Gillett both had 10+ too.  It was pretty evenly matched but as the 2nd half wore on, it was KSig JR who were able to make a few more plays down the stretch and they would Win the Championship 66-55!!  For DU – it will be tough to get over a Championship Loss – but they should be proud of everything they accomplished in 2017. We know we will see them back in 2018 when they try to take that one step forward (just like KSig JR did from ’16 to ’17). Congrats on a great run!

For the Champs Team KSig JR, what a difference a year makes.. These guys fought all season just to make it back to where they ended in 2016 and this year they were able to make good on what they started to give Kappa Sig their first Crown in All Sports Series history. Captain Libert and co. have no plans of surrendering the Crown soon as they will attempt to Back2Back next Fall! Congrats again and thanks for playing!

Thank you to all the Madison Leaguers for another great Fall season! We’ll see you in 2018, good luck on Finals!
