Updated: November 1, 2017

We are coming off of a very busy stretch for the Madison Hoops League as last week we had not one, but two(ish) sets of Games. Everyone played last Tuesday Night (Week 5 on Oct. 24) and then half the League was back at it again on Thursday Nov. 26.  The other half of the Teams will get Double Headers this coming Thursday Night as all Teams will finish up their 7-Game Regular Season on THURSDAY Nov. 2.  As far as the action last week – we saw Theta Chi take their first Loss and a couple other upsets also took place. The Top-5 remained the same in terms of the Teams, but we have a much different order from a week ago! Scroll down to find out!

Power Rankings

1. Team KSig JR (Ian’s Pizza) – 4-1

Reclaiming the #1 spot after a few weeks out of it – is Team KSig JR – now sitting at 4-1. They defeated Theta Chi last week 69-65 and in doing so gave Theta Chi their first L of the Season. Peter Poggioli had 25 and Captain Luke had 18. This Win is huge in their bid to get the #1 seed.. They now hold a head to head tiebreaker over Theta Chi – both Teams at 4-1. So, if they can win both of their Games on Thursday Night. They are guaranteed the #1 seed. They play #5 AEPi and Sammy FR/SO to close out the Regular Season.  If  they drop one or both, they could fall all the way down to the 4/5 seed depending on what else happens – not likely though.

2. Team Theta Chi (MacTaggart’s Orange) – 4-1

Team Theta Chi dropped their first Game last Tuesday Night, losing by 4 to new #1 KSig JR in what was a really great Game. Griffin Oleszczuk had 28 and Brad Burling had 20 – to keep his 20+ point streak alive at 4 Games. They are a really good Team and good Teams bounce back quickly from Losses. So they will not stay down for long. They have 2 Games to close out the year on THURSDAY NIGHT – they will take on DU and Sammy JR/SR to finish it out. If they go 2-0, they’ll need one Loss from KSig JR to leapfrog them for the #1 seed.  They also have to keep an eye out for Fiji and KSig SO who sit just a Game Back of them in the Loss column as well. Huge games coming on Thursday Night.

3. Team Fiji (Biaggi’s Purple) – 4-2

With Theta Chi Losing last week, the hottest Team in the League is officially Fiji. The Defending Champs have now rattled off 4-straight Wins since starting the year 0-2. They got a huge W for both confidence and tiebreaker purposes over KSig SO last Tuesday Night and followed up with a big W over DU on Thursday Night. Captain Grant Bailey led with 16 in the W over KSig SO. Herald Park had 13 in that one as well. They are now just a Game Back in the Loss column of KSig JR and Theta Chi for the top seeds in the Playoffs. They will finish the Season on Thursday Night against #5 AEPi.

4. Team KSig SO (StudentCity) – 4-2

Coming in at #4 this week is Team KSig SO. Just a couple weeks ago they were 3-0 and looking dominant. They’ve had a few bumps in the road since then – they Lost to Fiji last Tuesday Night – but did bounce back to defeat Sammy JR/SR on Thursday. Griffin Gibbons had 15 and Cole Rodby had 12 in the Loss to Fiji. They are set to take on Sammy FR/SO to finish out the Season on Thursday Night. A win for them gets them to 5-2 and they could finish no worse than a Top-4 seed to start the Playoffs. With some luck, they could get some Losses from the Teams Ranked ahead of them right now – as they hold tiebreakers over KSig JR – and they could wind up in the Top-3. Important Game coming on Thursday!

5. Team AEPi (MacTaggart’s Blue) – 2-3

AEPi has awoken! They have now won 2 in a row and are heating up at the perfect time of the Season. They got their 2nd W of the year last Tuesday Night against Sammy FR/SO 52-48. Max Goshen led the charge with 23 points while Captain Jordan Marsh scored 11. Ben Kohl was also in double figures too. They have two Games upcoming on Thursday Night to finish the campaign – #3 Fiji and #1 KSig JR – it will be a tough night, but they are playing their best right now and if they can even get a split at 1-1 it should do a ton for their confidence, knowing they can compete with anyone as the Playoffs roll in.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team DU (The Bucket List) – 2-4

DU went 1-1 last week. They picked up a Win on Tuesday Night against Sammy JR/SR. Captain Jack Wells had 23 in that one. Matt Bernstein and Sam Filkouski were both in double figures as well. They then played against Defending Champs #3 Fiji on Thursday Night and dropped that one. Fiji is really rolling right now. So, they have 1 Game left on Thursday Night and will close out the Season against #2 Theta Chi who is coming off their first Loss of the Season. It will definitely be a tough one. If they win, they are assured at least a Top-6 seed.. If they Lose, then one of the Sammy Teams may catch them from behind.. Important Thursday Night upcoming.

Team Sammy FR/SO (Biaggi’s Gray) – 1-4

The FR/SO of Sammy played just once last week and dropped that Game by 4 points to Team AEPi. Captain Matt Berger was their leading scorer with 17 points and Matthew Budkofsky scored 14 too. They just couldn’t get a play or two late to take the lead. They have 2 Games upcoming on the final Thursday of the Season. They take on both Kappa Sig squads.. First #4 KSig SO and then #1 KSig JR. It will be a challenging night but they are capable of getting a Win or two there!

Team Sammy JR/SR (CEA Study Abroad) – 1-5

Sammy JR/SR dropped both of their Games last week. They lost by 6 to DU on Tuesday Night and then fell by 10 to KSig SO. Jared Nossen led the way again on Tuesday with 15 points. These guys have one Game left to just get some momentum. They are going to be a very dangerous Cinderella candidate – higher seeds are not going to want to see them early. They take on #2 Theta Chi and if they can just get something going against them – that may change their whole outlook for the Playoffs!

That’s it for this week. Good Luck to everyone in the Regular Season finale on Thursday!
