Power Rankings

1. Team DKE SR1 (Nate Wellek) – Currently tied for 1st with 15 points.

We have a wide-open field this season and with many young new squads mixed in with a couple of veteran teams, it truthfully is anyone’s Championship to Win at the end of the 2018 season. On Sunday night, a few teams decided to make a statement immediately and started to separate themselves from the pack. None more stuck out than Team DKE SR1. They are captained by All Sports Series vet Nate Wellek. It’s a huge advantage to have veteran leadership in All Sports Series and Nate has been through many leagues with us in the past. He knows how to navigate a campaign and how to manage his squad. He is joined by a bunch of talented athletes who all possess certain skills that can lead them to championship territory. The scheduling gods did them no favors as they were tasked with a double header to start their campaign, but they handled it like champs and came away with two solid victories! In game 1 they rolled past their freshman compatriots Team DKE FR3 by a final score of 55-27. Playing with only five starters all game, Captain Nate decided to put game 1 on his shoulders and pour in 19 huge points to lead the squad to their first victory. Game 2 was a little closer in terms of score, but the team overall played great basketball to get them their second win on the evening. Matthew Lefkofsky dropped 17, Dylan Deitch had 16 and Adam Katzman chipped in with 12 to help deliver a 56-39 win over Team THEOS SR. They will hope to keep this winning momentum turning as they and the rest of the League are tasked with a Volleyball/Dodgeball double header in week 2.

2. Team Delta Sig SR (Brett Gaffner) – Currently tied for 1st with 15 points.

Team Delta Sig SR got their first W of the 2018 season and they will look to get the very last one a few months from now. They are led by Brett Gaffner who is no stranger to All Sports Series Leagues. Brett is very familiar with the way All Sports Series works and his familiarity will go a long way in helping his squad this season. They wasted little time in their season debut getting a big time Win as they took on a young but talented Team DKE FR4 crew that was looking to make a statement themselves. By a final score of 51-31, Captain Brett and Co. walked out of Whitmore Lake HS with a 1-0 record to start their 2018 campaign. Elijah Barich had 17 and Matt Stein put up 15 to combine for 32 of the teams 51 points. They’ll need more big performances next week as they will be playing a Volleyball/Dodgeball double header.

3. Team DKE FR1 (Jojo Green) – Currently tied for 1st with 15 points.

We have spoken at length about how vital All Sports Series’ veterans are for the success of a team and of a season in a whole. Well, Team DKE FR1 is the exception to the rule. This is their first season in the Ann Arbor League and each member of the crew is an All Sports Series Rookie. They showcased that they have a ton of talent and can win on any given evening. With a 39-32 victory over Team DKE FR2, they’ve decided to make an impact from the start. Samuel Drew led the squad in scoring in their first game putting up 16 points. Savvy Captain Jojo Green backed his teammates up by dropping 10 points of his own to help his squad get the Week 1 W. They’ll look to keep building on this Win in Week 2 with 36 possible points on the line in a Volleyball/Dodgeball double header. If they can come away with a couple more W’s, they can show the league that they are serious contenders for the 2018 Crown.

4. Team TKE SR2 (Keith Knopp) – Currently tied for 1st with 15 points.

Closing out the portion of Teams that Won on Sunday Night is Team TKE SR2. They likely have a gripe as they come in at #4 and truthfully there is not much to separate teams this early in a season. This is another squad that is looking to capitalize on their last shot at the Ann Arbor League Crown. They downed a very formidable Team DKE SO crew on Sunday Night in what was the most competitive game on the evening. This game was back and forth all night and came down to a very questionable whistle in the closing seconds of the game to allow Team TKE SR2 to walk away with a nail-biting 44-42 victory. A big reason why was Josh Cohen who had a League-Leading 20 points on Opening Night. They really put on a show and came up huge down the stretch and none bigger than his clutch free-throw with zero time on the clock to seal the Week 1 victory. These guys can play, and it seems like their athleticism will translate nicely to other sports. We’ll see if that holds true in Week 2’s Volleyball/Dodgeball double header!

5. Team DKE SO (Ben Wellek) – Currently tied for 5th with 0 points.

We have had many Sophomore teams in past seasons and a big advantage of being a sophomore, especially in an All Sports Series League, is that during a sophomore campaign teams can really reach their pinnacles in terms of achievements. They have experience on their belts and motivated leadership that can carry them to the top of a league. Returning Captain Ben Wellek will be hoping this holds true for him and his squad in 2018. Captain Ben is back for his second campaign in All Sports Series, as his is Twin Brother Jon with the DKE SO squad. Unfortunately, they finished last Sunday night on the wrong end of a two-point game, but just like last season they turned some heads in doing so. They were trading blows with Team TKE SR2 all night and Kimmel led the charge with 17 huge points. That just wasn’t enough as they had no answers for stopping Josh Cohen. They’ll need to shake off this heartbreaking loss quickly off and will need to get some points next week in a Volleyball/Dodgeball double header.

6. Team DKE FR2 (Drew Kepes) – Currently tied for 5th with 0 points.

Team DKE FR2 did not come away with a Week 1 Win in their All Sports Series debut BUT they still showed that they are going to be key factors in the League this season. Captain Drew Kepes leads a mostly-Rookie squad that seemingly is very deep and while it may take them a couple of weeks to start stock-piling points, that talent is visible. David Kleban led the crew with 14 points and Jonathan Raab pitched in with 10 but they came up just short falling to fellow freshman DKE FR1 39-32. This is a group that has serious potential and cannot be overlooked. They, like the rest of the League, will turn to a Volleyball/Dodgeball double header in Week 2 where they will look to claim some vital points!

7. Team THEOS SR (Jason Wolpov) – Currently tied for 5th with 0 points.

Team THEOS SR is led by veteran Jason Wolpov who is making his return to All Sports Series after taking last season off. His squads always progress nicely over the course of a season and while he and his teammates are still searching for their first All Sports Series Win this year, they have had a bunch of success in seasons past. Falling to #1 Team DKE SR 56-39, Captain Jason and company will need to get back to the drawing board and fix the little things that can mean the difference between winning and losing. Nathan Nalibotsky led the team in scoring in this one putting up 11 points, while Benjamin Pitkowsky scored 9 and Captain Jason added 8. Nice balance but just not enough to take down the #1. Important Week 2 coming up for Team THEOS as they will need to get some tally’s in the point column with an upcoming Volleyball/Dodgeball double header.

Rest of the Pack Alphabetical Order

Team DKE FR3 (Bryan Carbone) – Currently tied for 5th with 0 points.

No shame going down to the #1 team in the league. By a final score of 55-27, Team DKE FR3 lost a tough one on opening night to their elders and #1 Team DKE SR1. Captain Bryan lead the team in scoring putting up 12 points and did everything he could to help his team keep fighting in this one. The bad news; they lost in Week 1 and have 0 points. The good news; there are still 116 points up for grabs with many different sports upcoming. The beauty about All Sports Series leagues is that while a team can struggle in one sport, they can excel, achieve and dominate in another. These guys have talent and will get some points on the board soon. They get their next opportunity on Sunday night with a Volleyball/Dodgeball double header on the slate.

Team DKE FR4 (Darren Horowitz) – Currently tied for 5th with 0 points.

Team DKE FR4 will have a nice chip on their shoulder as we exit Week 1. Darron Horowitz’s bunch watched on as one of their fellow PC-mates won their Week 1 Game while another struggled to get it going in Week 1. They then had the unenviable task of facing off with #2 Team Delta Sig SR in their first Game. This group will have plenty of time to turn it around though and show that they are not going to be the weak link in the DKE factory. Scott Cohen had a very nice night putting up 16 points and Tyler Berger also put in 9 points of his own. This group has talent and will be looking to turn things around in Week 2’s Volleyball/Dodgeball double header!

That’s it for Week 1. Volleyball/Dodgeball double header is up next for Week 2! Have a great week!
