2018 Ann Arbor – Week 4 (Feb. 18)

By
Updated: February 22, 2018

Hoops took center stage once again in Ann Arbor during Week 4. It was the second time (last regular season game at Whitmore) on the basketball court and our final set of games before we pause for Spring Break. Right off the bat though…we need to mention and give a shout out to Kimmel of Team DKE SO (Ben Wellek) as he went for 25 on Sunday Night! Albeit, it wasn’t an official game since they won their scheduled game by forfeit, but that doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. Dropping 25 on any night under any circumstance is still solid. Well done sir! Moving along, when the dust settled on Sunday evening we were left with a total mess in the Standings. Team Delta Sig SR (Brett Gaffner) moves into the #1 spot in the Week 4 Power Rankings while Team TKE SR2 (Keith Knopp) are not far behind and only trail #1 Team Delta Sig SR by 9 points. In-fact, the Top-6 Teams are separated by less than 39 points and with 40 points still up for grabs with Flag Football on the schedule post Spring Break. There is still a ton left to decide in the last two regular season Flag Football games on campus under the lights at Mitchell Field!

Scheduling Note — We are OFF for SPRING BREAK on Sunday, February 25th and Sunday, March 4th. We will return to action on Sunday, March 11th with Flag Football at Mitchell Field.

Power Rankings

1. Team Delta Sig SR (Brett Gaffner) – Currently in 1st with 80 points.

Jumping up to the #1 spot in the Week 4 Power Rankings is Team Delta Sig SR led by veteran Brett Gaffner. They have been very consistent in everything they have played so far this season. They started their 2018 campaign by recording a 20-point Hoops victory in Week 1 and followed that up with taking 1st place and 2nd place in Week 2’s Volleyball/Dodgeball doubleheader. They recorded an easy forfeit Week 3 Soccer win and just got their second hoops victory on the season in Week 4 as they defeated Team DKE FR2 (Drew Kepes), 56-41. They got some nice efforts on Sunday night from Elijah Barich who had 18 and Charlie Sloane who had 14. Once we return from Spring Break on Sunday, March 11th they will take on #2 Team TKE SR (Keith Knopp) in the Week 5 Game of the Week followed by a tough match-up against #5 Team DKE SR (Nate Wellek). Difficult double header coming up in Week 5!

2. Team TKE SR2 (Keith Knopp) – Currently in second with 71 points.

Coming in at the #2 spot in the Week 4 Power Rankings is Team TKE SR2, led by their experienced and fearless leader, Keith Knopp. Coming into Week 4, these guys had been on a roll and controlled 1st place in the standings through the first 3 weeks of the regular season. They unfortunately slipped up in Week 4 and lost their Hoops games by a final score of 52-43 to Team DKE SR (Nate Wellek) in a hard-fought game by both sides. Ari Bender led the way with 16 points in his first basketball game this season. Justin Weinfeld also pitched in with 10 but that just wasn’t enough to take down a determined Team DKE SR squad. They’ll now look ahead and eye that #1 spot in the Power Rankings (and potentially the Standings) when we return from Spring Break on Sunday, March 11th. They will go toe to toe with #1 Team Delta Sig SR (Brett Gaffner) in Flag Football under the lights at Mitchell Field with the #1 Ranking on the line!

3. Team DKE FR1 (Jojo Green) – Currently in 3rd with 65 points.

Normally Freshmen squads start a little slow adjusting to everything in an All Sports Series league. That really hasn’t been the case here with Team DKE FR1 and their leader, Jojo Green. It is not often that we see Freshmen groups jump out as a part of the elite tier to begin a season. They have done just that thru the first half of the 2018 season. They had a great start to the season with a huge Week 1 hoops win, followed by a decent showing in their Volleyball/Dodgeball double header in Week 2. They had a Hoops double header on the docket in Week 4 and took the split. Once we return from Spring Break, this squad will take on their older bros, #7 Team DKE SO (Ben Wellek) in a Flag Football game under the lights at Mitchell Field!

4. Team THEOS SR (Jason Wolpov) – Currently in 4th with 62 points.

Jumping up to the #4 spot in this week’s Power Rankings is Team THEOS SR led by their floor general, Jason Wolpov, following their forfeit Win over #3 Team DKE FR1 on Sunday night. They still did get some run in on Sunday however and these guys were ready to play. Three different guys, Captain Jason, Nathan Nalibotsky and Andrew Cohen all put up 14 points. They now look ahead and eye that #1 spot in the Power Rankings (and potentially the Standings). They have two regular season Flag Football games remaining and their first challenge will be against Team DKE FR2 (Drew Kepes) when we return from Spring Break on Sunday, March 11th under the lights at Mitchell Field!

5. Team DKE SR1 (Nate Wellek) – Currently in 5th with 54 points.

Team DKE SR1 and their all-star captain, Nate Wellek, round out the Top-5 this week following their second Hoops win of the year on Sunday night. They have shown that they are among the League’s best when it comes to the basketball court which bodes well for their future Playoff run. Basketball is the second segment of the Playoffs and will close out our 2018 season on Sunday, April 8th. By the final score of 52-43, Nate Wellek and Co. got a much needed and well-deserved victory over fellow seniors and #2, Team TKE SR (Keith Knopp). Mathew Lefkofsky paced his squad in scoring, dropping 18 big points. He posted 17 in his first hoops game this season and now leads the team with an average PPG of 17.5. Dylan Deitch and Captain Nate rounded off their scoring by combining to put to 22 total points. Once we return from Spring Break on Sunday, March 11th, Team DKE SR1 will look to make a big move in the standing and Week 5 Power Rankings when they take on #1 Team Delta Sig SR (Brett Gaffner) under the lights at Mitchell Field in Flag Football!

6. Team DKE FR3 (Bryan Carbone) – Currently in 6th with 41 points.

Team DKE FR3 (Bryan Carbone) forfeited to Team DKE SO (Ben Wellek) on Sunday night as they did not have enough available players to field a legal team. The loss drops them down into the #6 spot in the Week 4 Power Rankings as well as the Standings. These guys have lost both of their scheduled Hoops games but had a very strong showing in the Week 2 Volleyball/Dodgeball double header. They still have 2 regular season Flag Football games remaining on the regular season schedule and can still make some noise atop our standings. For Team DKE FR3, next on the calendar is a Flag Football game under the lights at Mitchell Field on Sunday, March 11th once we return from Spring Break. They’ll have a few weeks off to regroup and shake off this loss before they square up against fellow Freshman and housemates Team DKE FR4 (Darren Horowitz). Very important match-up coming up for both squads!

7. Team DKE SO (Ben Wellek) – Currently in 7th with 24 points.

Grabbing those huge 15 Hoops points on Sunday night was a whole lot easier than expected. They’ll take it! Team DKE FR3 (Bryan Carbone) forfeited to Team DKE SO in Week 4 as they did not have enough available players to field a legal team. These guys did however still get some action on Sunday night and as we mentioned above, shout out to Kimmel who dropped 25 huge points in their scrimmage game. The win this week brings Team DKE SO’s point total to 24 and they’ll look to keep the momentum rolling and climbing up the points standings. Next up once we return from Spring Break on Sunday, March 11th is a crucial match-up with Team DKE FR1 (Jojo Green) who will also be looking to grab maximum points. Flag Football is next up on the docket for these guys in Week 5 under the lights at Mitchell Field. Important match-up for both teams.

Rest of the Pack Alphabetical Order

Team DKE FR2 (Drew Kepes) – Currently tied for 9th with 9 points.

Team DKE FR2 and captain Drew Kepes dropped their second tough Hoops game on the 2018 season. These guys really battled hard in this one however against a very tough and experienced Senior Delta Sig crew, but came up a little shy, losing 56-41. The team’s leading Hoops scorer, David Kleban, dropped 17 big points to helped keep his squad in this game. Adam Yaker also had a nice game posting 11 points while Harry Schildkraut put up 8. They just couldn’t muster up enough offense down the stretch to upset the older Delta Sig squad. The schedule will not get much easier in Week 5 for Team DKE FR2 once we return from Spring Break on Sunday, March 11th, as they line up against another Senior squad, #4 Team THEOS SR (Jason Wolpov). Anything can happen under the lights at Mitchell Field when these two squads go toe-to-toe in Flag Football!

Team DKE FR4 (Darren Horowitz) – Currently in 8th with 15 points.

The only points that Team DKE FR4 has been able to pick up so far through four weeks of the regular season was back in Week 2 when we had our Volleyball/Dodgeball double header. That night they walked out of Whitmore Lake HS with 15 points and as of today still sit at 15 points. The 15 points puts them at 8th place in our overall standings. They have struggled to get available bodies to play legal games over the last few weeks but will look to turn all of that around when we return from Spring Break on Sunday, March 11th. The last two regular season games will be Flag Football on campus under the lights at Mitchell Field! Team DKE FR4 still has an opportunity to pick up 40 more points and make a move in the standings prior to playoffs starting over these last couple weeks. One game at a time as they say. They match up with fellow brothers Team DKE FR3 (Bryan Carbone) on Sunday, March 11th in a pivotal game for both squads.

That’s it for Week 4. Have a fun and safe Spring Break (hopefully with StudentCity)!
