Playoff Preview

Elite 8:

#4 Team Sammy SR (Jack O Keefe) vs. #5 Team ZBT SR (Matt Siegel)

Winner plays #1 Team Delts JR (Grant Miller)

#4 Team Sammy SR, led by their veteran and Captain Jack O Keefe, enter the final week of the season as the overall #4 seed and fresh as can be. With an overall 4-2 regular season record and coming into the postseason as the overall #4 seed, Team Sammy SR was given the first-round bye in Week 1 last Sunday and will enter the postseason on Sunday night with some very fresh legs. They’ll need them as they will be tasked to win three games in a row on Sunday night if they want to take down the BTown Hoops Crown! Captain Jack O Keefe paced the squad during the regular season with 13.5 PPG. Given the Captain’s performance thus far this season, O Keefe figures to once again be pivotal to Team Sammy SR’s success on Sunday night. Their first test on Sunday evening will come against another SR squad, Team ZBT SR (Matt Siegel) who secured a very nice victory on Sunday to advance into this Elite8 round. During the regular season, Team ZBT SR (Matt Siegel) forfeited to Team Sammy SR back in Week 2 as they did not have enough available bodies that evening to field a legal team. My gut tells me that this will not happen again on Sunday. The winner of this game moves on to play the overall #1 seed, Team Delts JR (Grant Miller) in the Final4. Should Team Sammy SR also beat the overall #1 seed, they will be playing for the Bloomington Hoops Crown at 9PM!

By the final score of 75-65, #5 Team ZBT SR (Matt Siegel) cruised to victory on Sunday night over #12 Team AEPi FR (Griffin Lowy) and advances into the Elite8 round coming up on Sunday. Jeff Visoky had 15, Grant Goldman scored 14 and Zach Davis chipped in with 13 to help lead their very balanced offensive attack. With this very solid W on Sunday night, Team ZBT SR (Matt Siegel) move onto the Elite8 round coming up on Sunday against #4 Team Sammy SR (Jack O Keefe). Should Team ZBT SR also beat the overall #1 seed, they will be playing for the Bloomington Hoops Crown at 9PM on Sunday night!

#3 Team Evans Scholar SO (Justuss Boice) vs. #11 Team ZBT SO (Blake Weltman)

Winner plays #10 Team AEPi SO (Blake Schwartz)

#3 Team Evans Scholar SO, led by their savvy leader Justuss Boice, enter the final week of the season as the overall #3 seed and fresh as can be. With an overall 4-2 regular season record and coming into the postseason as the overall #3 seed, Team Evans Scholar SO was given the first-round bye in Week 1 last Sunday and will enter the postseason on Sunday night with some very fresh legs. They’ll need them as they will be tasked to win three games in a row on Sunday night if they want to take down the BTown Hoops Crown! Grant Dodenhoff and Eric Martin led this squad in scoring during the regular season, both dropping 14 PPG. Their first test on Sunday evening will come against one of the biggest surprises this postseason, Team ZBT SO (Blake Weltman) who secured a huge upset victory on Sunday to advance into this Elite8 round. In their regular season finale two weeks ago, Team Evans Scholar SO cruised past Team ZBT SO by a final score of 90-67. Captain Justuss and Co. will be looking to produce a similar result in their rematch coming up on Sunday night in the Elite8 round. The winner of this game moves on to play another surprise team, the overall #10 seed, Team AEPi SO (Blake Schwartz) in the Final4. Should Team Evans Scholar also beat the overall #10 seed in the Final4, they will be playing for the Bloomington Hoops Crown at 9PM!

#11 Team ZBT SO (Blake Weltman) stormed out to of the gates on Sunday night and never looked back as they secured a huge upset victory over # 6 Team Delts SO (Brandon Barthel). Tyler Watson had 17. Adam Goldstein had 16. Michael Davis has 12. Zach Lavine had 10. Those 55 points from the 4-headed monster of Team ZBT SO outscored their SO counterparts Team Delts SO, 55-49. When factoring in the other ZBT SO crew, they won by a wide margin. They now are off to try and get their second W of the postseason against #3 Team Evans Scholar SO (Justuss Boice) on Sunday night with a spot in the Final4 on the line! In their regular season finale two weeks ago, Team Evans Scholar SO cruised past Team ZBT SO by a final score of 90-67. Captain Blake Weltman and Co. will be looking to get some revenge coming up on Sunday night and reach a super unpredictable Final4 of the #10 vs. #11 seeds. Should Team ZBT SO also beat the overall #10 seed in the Final4, they will be playing for the Bloomington Hoops Crown at 9PM!

Final4:

#1 Team Delts JR (Grant Miller) vs. Winner of #4 Team Sammy SR /#5 Team ZBT SR

Winner plays in the Championship Game!

Team Delts JR (Grant Miller) entered as the #1 overall seed and as one of the favorites to hold the Crown when all was said and done this Spring. They were awaiting the winner of the #8 vs. #9 match-up on Sunday night and as fate would have it, were tasked with taking down the veteran SR squad Team Delts SR (Matt Braschi). By the final score of 55-50, #1 Team Delts JR booked their spot into the Final4 with a very hard-fought win. Ryan Ruff was the superstar in this game, posting team high 20 points. Ruff was on fire early in the game, maintaining that form to finish with that team high of 20 points. Ruff and the rest of the Delts JR crew gets one week of rest now before they host the winner of the #4 vs. #5 match-up in the Final4. In their regular season finale, Team Delts JR forfeited to #4 Team Sammy SR as they did not have enough available bodies to field a legal team. They did not match up against #5 Team ZBT SR (Matt Siegel) during the regular season. Either opponent is going to be tough to beat, especially since they will be coming off a big win in the Elite8 round. They will need to be motivated and ready if they want to book a ticket into the Championship game on Sunday night!

#10 Team AEPi SO (Blake Schwartz) vs. Winner of #3 Team Evans Scholar SR/#11 Team ZBT SO

Winner plays in the Championship Game!

Without a doubt, our biggest surprise on Sunday night came in the form of #10 Team AEPi SO (Blake Schwartz). Not only did they upset the #7 seed Team Kappa Sig JR (Ryan Brennan) 56-50 in the Round of 12, they also went on to shock the overall #2 seed Team Delta Chi JR (Noah Berkowitz) by a final score of 61-52 to reach the Final4! In their first game of the night, Team AEPi SO were led by Steve Levine and his 13-point performance. Jeremy Sernick and Garrett Mullen also chipped in with 11 points apiece to help upset the #7. They would move on to play Game 2 on Sunday night in the Elite8 round against the overall #2 seed and JR squad from Delta Chi. By a final score of 61-52, Team AEPi SO shocked the league and recorded one of the biggest upsets this season. In this win, Steve Levine, Garrett Mullen and Jeremy Sernick once again paced this squad on offense, combing to score 35 of their teams 61 points. With two straight victories in their pockets, Team AEPi SO (Blake Schwartz) is just 1 win away from reaching the 2018 Bloomington Hoops Championship! They first will need to get by the winning team between #3 Team Evans Scholar SO (Justuss Boice)/#11 Team ZBT SO (Blake Weltman). Back in Week 5 of the regular season, Team AEPi SO cruised past Team Evan Scholar SO 93-83. They did not match up against Team ZBT SO during the regular season. Whoever their opponents are on Sunday in the Final4, these guys will need to put together another magical performance if they want the opportunity to play for the BTown Hoops Crown!

That’s it for Week 1 of the Playoffs! Thanks again for those who finished up on Sunday and Good Luck to our Final 6 teams, we’ll crown the 2018 Bloomington Hoops Champs on Sunday night!
