Power Rankings

1. Team Maione – 6-1

Moving up into the #1 spot for the first time this season in the Week 5 Power Rankings is non-other than Team Maione. With two games on the docket on Sunday, Team Maione took care of business in Week 5 and raised their overall record to 6-1. In their first game of their scheduled double dip, Team Maione cruised past Team Rhum by a final score of 9-3 and picked up their second win over Team Rhum this season. Team Maione jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the 1st and held serve for the rest of the game. Austin Natkin continues to rake the ball, going 4-4 and added 2 more RBI’s to his league leading total. 7 other players drove in a run for Team Maione in this one. Having to turn around right away and play their second game of the day, Team Maione crushes Team Tap Dat by a final score of 21-4. In the two games that these two squads have played against one another this season, Team Maione has outscored Team Tap Dat 51-5. Team Maione dropped a 15 spot in the 1st that was mercifully ended on a Team Tap Dat fielding gem. From there, Team Maione never looked back as this game was beautifully highlighted by a Bradley Marks fielding gem in the 4th. Bradley Marks capped off his solid day by knocking out his 1st homer of the season. Austin Natkin also jacked one out for Team Maione, his 4th on the year. Coming up in Week 6, Team Maione will look to hang onto their #1 spot when they go toe-to-toe with #2 Team Lessem (5-1) in our Week 6 Game of the Week!

2. Team Lessem – 5-1

Team Lessem came into Week 5 as the hottest squad in the league, winners of 3 straight ball games. They continued their great start to the season on Sunday afternoon, taking down Team Shapiro by a final score of 16-3. Team Shapiro took the early lead in this one, jumping out to a 3-1 lead after the 1st. Starting pitcher Jason Wenk did not let the 1st inning rattle him and clamped down on the mound after holding Team Shapiro scoreless while striking out 2 batters along the way. Brett Winger did most of the damage with Team Lessem’s bats as he went 4-4 with 3 RBI’s and 3 Runs Scored. Alexander Brown and Brett Weiss also chipped in with 2 RBI’s apiece. Team Lessem will look to continue their hot start to the season as they take on #1 Team Maione (6-1) in Week 6 in our Week 6 Game of the Week!

3. Team Holzman – 5-1

The Defending back-to-back Champs took a tough loss on Sunday afternoon in a close game against Team Russell, losing by a final score of 7-6. The loss was their first of the season and ended their dreams of a perfect campaign. Team Holzman held an early 4-0 lead in this ballgame but could not hold off Team Russell’s charge. Captain Andrew and Peter Ballenger had 2 RBI’s apiece in this one for Team Holzman, they just could not find that extra hit that they needed to keep their undefeated campaign alive. Because of this loss, we now have 3 teams sitting atop the standings with 1 loss each. The loss also drops Team Holzman down into the #3 spot in the Week 5 Power Rankings. Team Holzman have a good chance to get back into the win column on Sunday when they take on a winless Team Tap Dat (0-5) crew that will be looking to notch their first ever All Sports Series Summer 16’’ Softball win.

4. Team Russell – 2-3

Team Russell was slotted against the #1 Team in Week 5, Team Holzman, this past week, and were able to pull off the upset of the week. By a final score of 7-6, Team Russell recorded their 2nd straight victory and took down the only undefeated team remaining, Team Holzman. With this win, Team Russell moves up into the #4 spot in the Week 5 Power Rankings. Team Holzman jumped out to an early 4-0 lead but Team Russell came charging back behind the bats of AJ Amato and captain Austin. These two guys combined to go for 4-7 at the dish and drove in 5 of the teams 7 runs. James Bonner also showed off his skills in the field, producing one of the best web gems this week. Team Russell will look to take their winning steak up to 3 and 4 games on Sunday afternoon as they are scheduled for 2 games against Team Rhum (2-4) and Team Shapiro (0-5).

5. Team Rhum – 2-4

Team Rhum dropped their second straight game on Sunday as they went down to Team Maione by a final score of 9-3. The loss drops their overall record to 2-4 and pushes them down into the #5 spot in the Week 5 Power Rankings. Team Rhum allowed Team Maione to jump out to an early 5-0 and were never able to rally back. Captain Adam led the squad on Sunday with 2 RBI’s while Jacob Silverman went 2-4 with 1 RBI. Andy Pollack also had a nice day at the dish, finishing the day 4-5 with 2 runs scored. Team Rhum will try to end their little 2 game losing streak on Sunday afternoon against the team that hopped them in the Week 5 Power Rankings, Team Russell (2-3).

6. Team Shapiro- 0-5

Team Shapiro is still winless this year, getting blown out by Team Lessem this week by the score of 16-3. Team Shapiro must have thought good things were going to happen on Sunday after they jumped out to an early 3-1 lead after 1 inning. Unfortunately for Team Shapiro, they were unable to muster up any more runs after the 1st and ended up getting slaughtered. Charlie Marks, Captain Joey and Scott Ingram all drove in a run in the 1st inning for Team Shapiro, but they were not able to find any more offensive production after that. They go for win #1 of the season coming up on Sunday afternoon when they take on #4 Team Russell (2-3). A win here can really boost moral while another loss will have them do some serious soul searching.

7. Team Tap Dat – 0-5

Team Tap Dat produced their highest scoring game of the season on Sunday afternoon but unfortunately it still wasn’t enough to get past #1 Team Maione. By a final score of 21-4, Team Tap Dat dropped their fifth straight decision and are still searching for their first ever All Sports Series Summer 16’’ Softball Win. The first inning set the tone in this one as Team Tap Dat allowed Team Maione to drop a 15 spot in the 1st. It could have even been worse had it not been for Troja’s fielding gem to end the inning. As if it couldn’t get worse for Team Tap Dat, the game ended on an even sourer note as they were picked off at first base to end the game. They get another tough match-up coming up on Sunday as they take on #3 Team Holzman (5-1).

Great games in Week 5! I have a feeling Week 6 will be even better!
