Power Rankings

1. Team Maione – 9-1

Team Maione got to 9-1 on Sunday by sweeping their scheduled double header on Sunday. In game 1 of the scheduled double dip on Sunday, Team Maione took down Team Shapiro by a final count of 11-7. Team Maione sleep-walked through this game that was always in doubt, yet never in doubt. Captain Frank went yard again in this one to add to his league leading HR total while driving in 3 runs. Bradley Marks also went yard, his second on the year. In game 2 of their scheduled double dip, #1 Team Maione squeezed by Team Russell by a final score of 13-12. Team Russell had control most of the game but couldn’t hang on in the end after another Frank Maione walk off. Austin Natkin added 4 RBI’s in this one as well to bring his season total up to 26. These guys are showing no signs of slowing down. They have a huge match-up against the defending Back-to-Back Champs and #3 Team Holzman (5-3) coming up on Sunday afternoon.

2. Team Lessem – 8-1

These guys just had by far their easiest W of the season as they recorded a forfeit win against Team Tap Dat in their first scheduled game of the day on Sunday afternoon. These guys then recorded one of their best wins of the season and they took down the defending Back-to-Back Champs Team Holzman by a final score of 4-2. This was a defensive minded game that had both teams scratching for a run all game long. In the end, it was Brandon Coan, Brett Weiss and Jordan Schwartz who all came through with RBI’s for Team Lessem to notch their 8th victory on the campaign. The Back-to-Back wins now brings their winning streak up to 7 games and with 2 regular season games remaining on their schedule, they have a real solid shot of securing the #1 overall seed. They first must get through a good Team Russell (3-5) squad coming up on Sunday.

3. Team Holzman – 5-3

Team Holzman was the latest victim of the streaking Team Lessem crew. By a final score of 4-2, Team Holzman has now dropped 3 consecutive ball games, something they surely are not used too. A defensive minded game had both teams scratching for a run. If only bat throwing and breaking was worth runs perhaps the result would have been different. Team Holzman just needs to shake this one off and get back to winning softball. Mike Maione and Alec Permach were both able to knock in a run while Danny Goldin had another nice day at the plate going 2-3 with a run scored. Coming up on Sunday afternoon Team Holzman look to get back on track with a scheduled double header on tap. They first take on #4 Team Rhum (4-4) before they take on the #1 team in the league, Team Maione (9-1). Very important games coming up for Team Holzman.

4. Team Rhum – 4-4

Team Rhum got another W on Sunday, moving their record back to the .500 mark at 4-4 and staying put in the #4 spot in the Week 7 Power Rankings. They have won Back-to-Back games after taking down Team Shapiro on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 18-10. Team Rhum took an early 11-1 lead and held serve in an offensive minded affair. Andy Pollack had a huge day at the dish, finishing the day going 5-6 with 4 RBI’s. Tyler Goldstein and Alec Wise also drove in a couple of runs apiece. Team Rhum is looking as if they can really go on a run to finish the Regular Season strong. Team Rhum has a double dip on tap coming up on Sunday afternoon as they take on Team Tap Dat (0-9) and Team Holzman (5-3). Big week coming up for these boys.

5. Team Russell – 3-5

Team Russell came into Week 7 with a double header on tap and walked away with a 1-1 split. In the first game of their scheduled double header, Team Russell lost a heartbreaker to #1 Team Maione by a final score of 13-12. Team Russell will be wondering how they let this one get away from them as they had control most of the game but couldn’t hang on in the end after a Team Maione walk off to give them the loss. Captain Austin Russell and Dillon Murphy combined for 6 RBI’s while Peter McGuires huge day at the plate (5-5 with 3 runs scored) kept this team in the ball game. These guys had to shake this brutal loss off quickly as they had to turnaround and play Team Tap Dat. They ended up recording by far their easiest W of the season as they received a forfeit win against Team Tap Dat as Team Tap Dat did not have enough players to field a legal team. The 1-1 split on the day brought their record to 3-5 on the year. Coming up on Sunday afternoon, Team Russell will get another double dip with Team Lessem (8-1) and Team Shapiro (1-7).

6. Team Shapiro- 1-7

Team Shapiro dropped both of their scheduled games this past Sunday to bring their season record down to 1-7. In their first scheduled game, Team Shapiro lost to Team Rhum by a final score of 18-10. Team Rhum jumped out to the lead 11-1 early and held in an offensive minded affair. Ben Pineless had a huge game at the dish, going 3-4 with 4 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. Captain Joey Shapiro also tried to help his squad claw back into this game by going 3-3 with 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored, unfortunately they just had too big of a hill to climb back up on. In their second game of the day, Team Shapiro lost a tough battle to #1 Team Maione by a final score of 10-7. Team Maione sleep-walked through a game that was always in doubt yet was never in doubt. Scott Fenton of Team Shapiro had the gem of the day turning a double play, but it was too little too late to record the upset victory over Team Maione. These guys will need to shake these losses off quickly and try to pile a couple of wins over the next 2 weeks before the playoffs come around. They have another double header on tap coming up on Sunday afternoon as they play host to Team Russell (3-5) before ending their day against Team Tap Dat (0-9).

7. Team Tap Dat – 0-9

Team Tap Dat had a double header scheduled on Sunday and ended up not fielding a team in either of those games. They are still searching for their first win on the season and will have two chances once again on Sunday afternoon as they have another double header on tap. They have an opportunity to move themselves out of the #7 spot but will need to show up and play some games. They get both Team Shapiro (1-7) and Team Rhum (4-4) coming up on Sunday.

Important week on deck in Week 8!
