Playoff Review

Elite8: #1 Team Porter vs. #8 INDY Team #3

Team Porter entered the Fall THURSDAY Hoops League Playoffs as the #1 overall seed with an undefeated 7-0 regular season record. On Thursday night they cruised to victory over #8 INDY Team #3 in the Elite8 round by the final score of 95-48. Kente Mixon led the way for #1 Team Porter in this contest, dropping a season high 32-points. What’s even more amazing is that #1 Team Porter was only able to dress four bodies for this opening round game and played a man down the entire contest. The win pushes Team Porter’s current winning streak up to 8 games and they now are just 2 victories away from hoisting the Fall THURSDAY Hoops Crown! Coming up on Thursday night in our Final4, Team Porter will tip off against #4 Team Sharrin. These two squads met during Week 4 of the regular season back on October 25th and #1 Team Porter walked away with solid 90-80 victory. They’ll look to repeat that performance coming up on Thursday evening with the winner of this match-up having a 1-hour break before the Championship Game!

For INDY Team #3, this was certainly not the way they wanted their season to end. These strangers came together as a Team this Fall and competed every time out. They came into Thursday night as the #8 seed and did their absolute best to give #1 Team Porter a run for their money. The team’s leading scorer on the season, Chris Colla, had a very nice Elite8 round game by putting up 10 points. Unfortunately, these guys just did not have enough left in their tanks down the stretch to beat the best team in the league right now. We hope to see these guys in one of the Winter Leagues coming up. Thanks for playing!

Elite8: #2 Da Bulls vs. #7 Team Copters

Da Bulls had been itching to get back on the court on Thursday night as they are one of the hottest teams in the league entering the 2018 Fall THURSDAY Hoops postseason. They carried their regular season momentum into the opening night of the playoffs on Thursday evening and walked away big winners over #7 Team Copters, 73-42. The leagues fifth leading scorer during the regular season, Joshua Dix, was absolutely lights out as he went for a game high of 20 points in his squads 31-point victory on Thursday night! Da Bulls are the third highest scoring team in the league and it will take a massive defensive performance to shut down Joshua or anyone from Da Bulls. They are off to the Semis on Thursday night and will take on #3 Double RIM Jobs in a rematch from Opening Night where Da Bulls were able to squeeze out a 59-45 victory! Winner of this match-up will stay on the court and play in the Championship game on Thursday night!

For 2018 All Sports Series newcomers Team Copters – they didn’t make it as far as they’d hoped when the season began but they still had quite a few highlights this Season. These guys are no pushovers and have a lot of talent on their roster. With one full All Sports Series season under his belt, Captain RJ Bulleri will tweak the roster as he sees fit and this squad won’t stay down for long! You can expect to see them in the Winter! Thanks for playing!

Elite8: #3 Double RIM Jobs vs. #6 Avengers 5.0

Not exactly sure what it is about these guys, but they just seem to win the big games when they matter most. By the final score of 59-47 over #6 Avengers 5.0, #3 Double RIM Jobs booked their ticket into the Final4 and have the opportunity coming up on Thursday night to bring home their 1st All Sports Series Hoops Championship! BUT before we get too far ahead of ourselves, Team Double RIM Jobs will need to avenge their season opening loss to #2 Da Bulls in the Final4. They lost their season opener to #2 Da Bulls by a final score of 59-45 and will certainly have their hands full with trying to contain the likes of Joshua Dix and Jake Bianchi. Back in their Week 1 loss to #2 Da Bulls, Double RIM Jobs were able to hold Joshua Dix to only 10 points on that night. #3 Double RIM Jobs will need to come up with another great game plan on Thursday night to slowdown the high-flying offense of #2 Da Bulls. This one should be a classic as the winner moves on to immediately play in the Fall THURSDAY Championship game!

For Team Avengers 5.0, they were unable to pull off the upset on Thursday night in the Elite8 round but were still a solid group this season. They had nice depth on their roster and if they add just one more scorer, this is a group that can and will compete for future Championships. We hope to see them back this Winter! Thanks for playing gentleman!

Elite8: #4 Team Sharrin vs. #5 MACS

During the Playoff Preview last week we spoke about how this #4 vs. #5 match-up may be the Game of the Week for Week 1 of the opening Elite8 round and it certainly did not disappoint! These two groups slugged it out and went back and forth, both on the offensive and defensive ends of the court, attempting to earn their spot in the Final4 against #1 Team Porter. Tyler Max for Team Sharrin saved his best performance of this season for this Elite8 match-up as he poured in a season high of 14 points. The leagues regular season scoring Champion, Zach Hilgendorf, also had a magical night for Team Sharrin as he was able to pitch in 41 HUGE points of his own. When all was said and done on Thursday night, #4 Team Sharrin got the huge Playoff W! They are headed to the Final4 coming up on Thursday night with a match-up against #1 and undefeated Team Porter. This game will pit Zach Hilgendorf and Captain Eric Porter of Team Porter, the leagues two leading scorers, against one another in this Final4 match-up. Can these two guys combine to score 100 in this contest?? One thing is for sure, it’s going to be a classic! Winner of this game has an hour break before they fight for the Crown on Thursday night!

For Team MACS – it was a heartbreaking exit for a group that knows they can go much further in the Playoffs. They just didn’t get the bounces and stops that they needed on Thursday night to seal the deal here. They came into the Elite8 round sporting the second-best defense in the league, but unfortunately could not contain the league’s leading scorer and ultimately lost this game by six points. This group is comprised of several Chicago Hoops veterans and they will not stay down for long. They will be back sooner rather than later. We hope to see them back this Winter! Thanks for playing fellas!

What a great opening night of Playoffs. Thanks again to the teams that finished up on Thursday night and we hope to see you back this Winter. Good luck to the Final4 teams competing on Thursday Night!
