Last Tuesday Night we Crowned our 2018 Chicago Spring Tuesday Hoops Champs! Our top 4 seeded teams all qualified for the Final4 and as a result we had a star-studded final week. There were a few interesting storylines entering the night; Could #1 Team Deutsch cap off a perfect regular season? Could #3 Team Darcy make it 3 Championships in a row? We’re going to breakdown all the action from the three games below!

All Sports Series Championship Week Review

Final4: #1 Team Deutsch vs. #4 Team Dean

These two squads met all the way back on opening night of the Regular Season, well before we knew what #1 Team Deutsch really was capable of. Team Deutsch ended up winning that night all the way back on March 20th by a final score of 81-69 en route to earning the overall #1 seed and an undefeated Regular Season! Team Dean was looking to add to their All Sports Series mantle. As the Game got underway it was clear that both squads were there with clear intentions to bring the Chip home with them. Both Teams were flying around on both ends of the court. The lead would see-saw in the first-half and into the second. Michael Mulroe led all scorers in this contest with 25 points while Captain Tred Dean went for 23 huge points (season high) of his own. Mid-way through the second-half however, Team Deutsch just couldn’t get anything to go and could not make some key defensive stops to keep #4 Team Dean at bay. They made a few uncharacteristic mistakes down the stretch and #4 Team Dean was able to pull away for good! #4 Team Dean upsets the undefeated and #1 Team Deutsch by a final score of 80-64 and were moving on to the Championship Game!

For Team Deutsch – what a great season. These guys didn’t play their best on this night and it turns out that teams need to play their best to win it all in an All Sports Series Hoops league. Their undefeated regular season was no small feat and getting all the way to the Final4 is certainly something they should be proud of. It’s very rear for any team not to lose a single game during the regular season as we all know how good the competition is in these leagues. These guys have major talent up and down their roster and Captain Justin Deutsch will regroup and try to make another run at it this Summer. Thanks again for playing and see everyone soon!

Final4: #2 Team Knox vs. #3 Team Darcy

We knew #4 Team Dean was heading to the Championship Game with their upset victory over #1 Team Deutsch. So, who would it be going against them? #2 Team Knox and #3 Team Darcy met in the regular season finale in Week 7 where these two squads combined to score 194 total points! This Final4 matchup was going to be a different game however. Neither team would hit the 90-point mark in this game as they both seemed determined to make a stand on the defensive end of the court. The leagues regular season scoring Champion, Tremell Adams who went off for 33 massive points in their previous matchup, was held to his lowest scoring total on the season with only 8 points. In fact, not a single player on Team Knox was able to score more than 13 in this contest. It didn’t matter though as Team Knox had 6 different players score in double digits. They really clamped down on the defensive end as well, limiting a high scoring Team Darcy offense to 73 points. With a fantastic all-around team effort, Team Knox would hold off the defending back-to-back Champs and claim their spot in the Spring TUESDAY Hoops Championship Game!

For Team Darcy – another strong season under their belts. I’m sure these guys are disappointed that they did not give themselves the opportunity to play for their 3rd straight title but in all honestly, they have nothing to be ashamed about. Their run of Final4 appearances and total All Sports Series Crowns is really astounding. They are one of the top teams in Chicago (yes, all of Chicago) and can compete and beat anyone on any given night. Unfortunately, on this Tuesday night, they just did not do enough to get past a very determined Team Knox squad. We hope to see these guys back this Summer to see if they can add to that stacked All Sports Series mantle of theirs. Thank you again for playing this season and we all hope to see you competing this Summer!

Championship Game: #2 Team Knox vs. #4 Team Dean

Down to our Final2. Outside of #1 Team Deutsch, #2 Team Knox was the hottest team entering the Spring postseason. They had won 4 games in a row entering the playoffs and knocked off #7 Team Immunity and #3 Team Darcy to stamp their ticket into this Championship game. In the other corner is #4 Team Dean who just pulled off a shocker by defeating the #1 and undefeated Team Deutsch crew in our other semi-final game. Both teams were now just 1 win away from that coveted Crown and both squads were coming into this Championship game with loads of talent and lots of momentum. We were in store for an excellent Championship Game.

These two teams were both feeling good following their Final4 victories and the offenses were ready to go from the opening tip. Team Dean had the size advantage, but Team Knox is used to that. Team Dean had an early lead as the Game got going but Team Knox caught them and then took the lead as they headed toward halftime. Team Knox had a way of pulling away from teams in the second half and that is exactly what we saw take place here. It was almost like déjà vu as Team Knox pulled away in their previous match-up back in Week 5 against Team Dean and ended up winning that game by 10 points. Team Dean’s 3s stopped falling and Team Knox would utilize the long-rebounds to get some transition buckets. Tremell Adams, who was just held to a season low in the Final4 game against Team Darcy, was determined to have a better performance in the Final and had a Playoff and Season high of 34 points! Mark Haas and Captain Tredrick Dean combined to score 24 points for Team Dean. It just wasn’t enough offense and Team Dean was also unable to contain the hot hand of Adams of Team Knox. Team Knox had a double-digit lead with just a few minutes to go and Team Dean was able to cut into that lead, but it was too little too late and Team Knox had won the Spring TUESDAY Championship!! More on them in just a bit…

For the Runners-up Team Dean – It was another great run for them as usual. They didn’t leave with the ultimate prize but in what was stacked league this season, they were highly competitive as usual and advanced to the Championship Game to a lot of people’s surprise. Their All Sports Series resume just keeps getting better and they will continue to compete and establish themselves as one of the best squads out there. Their focus now turns to the Summer Hoops league which will begin in a few weeks and hopefully feature them along with some of the best teams in Chicago. Thanks for playing gentleman!

To the Champs Team Knox! First off, huge Congratulations! Only a handful of teams play season in and season out and these guys are certainly committed. We thank you for your continued support! Then on top of that they finish the season with an 8-2 overall record and had the league’s scoring leader on their side to help them take down the coveted All Sports Series Crown. They were dominant all season and fun to watch play. We are hoping they will enter the Summer league in a few weeks and try to defend this special Crown! Thank you for playing and congrats again!

That’s it for Tuesday Nights this Spring. Thank you all for playing! Hope to see everyone soon!
