2018 Chicago Spring TUESDAY Hoops Week 2 – (Mar. 27)

Updated: March 30, 2018

We got back to action on Tuesday evening for Week 2 of the Spring TUESDAY Hoops League! When the dust settled, we had two teams that were left undefeated, four teams at 1-1 and two teams that are still winless on the 2018 Spring campaign. Team Watts and Team Jimenez have lost their first two games and will have a big hole to climb out of but still have five regular season games remaining to make some noise prior to the playoffs beginning. Defending champions Team Darcy meanwhile, have won two very solid games to start their 2018 campaign and stay in the #1 spot in the Week 2 Power Rankings. It has certainly been an interesting start to the season! In the grand scheme of things, odds are none of that matters though. Teams rarely look the same in March/April as they do in May. But as far as early-season power rankings are concerned, it matters a great deal. On to our Week 2 Power Rankings…

Power Rankings

1. Team Darcy – 2-0

A week after picking up a very solid victory on opening night against Team Shlofrock, Team Darcy picked up their second win in a row on the young season and stay in the #1 spot in the Week 2 Power Rankings. Team Darcy recorded a blowout victory on Tuesday night by the final score of 72-42 over Team Jimenez to remain unbeaten on the young season. They really brought it in this game as four different players recorded double digit points and not a single player scored less than 7. Tim Dunlaey had another quality showing to lead the club’s Offense with 17 points, while Captain Bret Darcy and Eyad pitched in with 11 apiece to help seal the deal early in this one. Team Darcy is looking like a team on a mission through the first two weeks of games. Next up for Team Darcy is a showdown against #2 Team Deutsch (2-0), in what will be our Week 3 Game of the Week!

2. Team Deutsch – 2-0

Moving up 1 spot into the #2 hole in the Week 2 Power Rankings is Team Deutsch. Led by Brian Hess’s 22-point performance on Tuesday night, Team Deutsch picked up their second consecutive victory by beating All Sports Series Newcomers Team Immunity by a final score of 77-57 to remain unbeaten. Through the first two games of the season, Team Deutsch has the highest scoring offense averaging 79 PPG. These guys can put up big numbers on any given evening and teams will need to come up with great game plans if they have any expectations on slowing these guys down. Brian Oddo also had another big night on Tuesday evening for Team Deutsch by posting 19 big points. Brian has been magnificent thus far this season and helped his squad secure their second straight W. The win takes Team Deutsch’s record to 2-0 and sets up a trilling matchup in Week 3 against #1 and undefeated Team Darcy. This will be our Week 2 Game of the Week!

3. Team Shlofrock – 1-1

Team Shlofrock got a big W on Tuesday night, their first of the season. The win moves Team Shlofrock from the depths of the unranked, all the way up into the #3 spot in the Week 2 Power Rankings. They were paired up in Week 2 with a very strong Team Knox squad, who were coming off a Week 1 win, and were able to leave WCFH with a dominating 95-64 victory. Andrew Marks for Team Shlofrock had a gigantic performance to lead the club’s Offense and the league with 27 points on Tuesday night. The 27 is the highest point total by any player so far this season. It wasn’t all about Andrew Marks for Team Shlofrock however as Captain Jake turned in a very good performance by chipping in with 21 points to seal their first victory this season. Team Dean (1-1) are next on the schedule for Team Shlofrock who will also be looking to snatch their second victory on the season and attempt to move into the Top-2 in the Week 3 Power Rankings. Big game for both squads.

4. Team Knox – 1-1

After a dominating performance in Week 1, Team Knox came back down to earth in Week 2 as they struggled to get it going on both ends of the court, netting 21 fewer points than their total from Week 1, while also giving up a league high 95 points in Week 2. By a final score of 95-64, Team Knox took their first loss on the season as they could not slow down a hot shooting Team Shlofrock squad. They’ll need to find more offense and clean up a few things on the defensive side of the ball if they plan on staying in the Top-5 in the Week 3 Power Rankings. The loss pushes them down to the #4 spot in our Week 2 Power Rankings. Even in a losing effort, Captain Andre Knox had a nice game to lead the group’s Offense with 16 points, while Marcus White netted 15 points. For Team Knox, they will have a battle with Team Jimenez (0-2) in Week 3 as they try to rebound from this disappointing loss.

5. Team Dean – 1-1

Moving up from the #6 spot in Week 1 to the #5 spot in Week 2 is non-other than Team Dean, who are led by their team captain, Tredrick Dean. They recorded a very solid tally in the win column on Tuesday night by the final score of 60-49 over Team Watts, to get their record to .500 on the young season. These guys really brought it on the defensive end in this game, allowing the second fewest points of any team in Week 2. Captain Dean and Michael Mulroe were the anchors on offense for Team Dean in this one, scoring 13 points apiece. Courtney Griffin chipped in with 12 points while Truman and Mark Haas combined to score 15 to help bring this squad their first victory of the Spring TUESDAY Hoops league. Team Shlofrock, who also sport a 1-1 record, are next on the calendar for Team Dean coming up on Tuesday night in what should be a great game.

6. Team Immunity – 1-1

Team Immunity and Captain Isaiah Watts were unable to get much going on offense at WCFH on Tuesday night, as they lost a tough game to #2 Team Deutsch, 77-57. This loss pushes Team Immunity down into the #6 spot in the Week 2 Power Rankings. Even in a losing effort, Kyle Pass scored 19 points, Captain Isaiah had 16 points and Charlie Kennedy chipped in with 9. Team Immunity battled with a veteran All Sports Series Team Deutsch squad on Tuesday night but came up a bit short in what was a very close game through the first 30 minutes of this contest. While they dropped their record to 1-1 on this young season, they have played very good basketball and will be contenders all season long. Coming up on Tuesday night, they are going to have another tough test (as the All Sports Leagues are very deep) with another veteran All Sports Series squad, Team Watts (0-2) in Week 3.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Jimenez – 0-2

Back to back losses have now dropped Team Jimenez and captain Alex Jimenez’s record to 0-2 on the season. Losing 72-42 to #1 Team Darcy is not something to be ashamed about however. For the second week in a row, Team Jimenez were matched up against a Top-6 team. Unfortunately for Team Jimenez, neither performance in Week 1 or Week 2 were enough to snag a victory. In this loss, Kevin, who had missed their Week 1 game, had a strong performance to lead the crew’s Offense with 15 points, while Jonathon Frosolone did his part once again and scored 10 points to keep his guys in the game through the first half. Next up for Team Jimenez is a match-up against #4 Team Knox (1-1) who will also be looking to shake off a tough Week 2 loss. A win in Week 3 for Team Jimenez can get them right back into the thick of things while a third straight loss could leave them with a huge mountain to climb the rest of the season.

Team Watts – 0-2

Dropping out of the Week 2 Power Rankings is Team Watts, led by their seasoned veteran and Captain Mack Watts. By the final score of 60-49, Team Watts dropped their second consecutive game to begin their 2018 Spring Tuesday Hoops season. They really could not get much going on the offensive end of the court in this one as they scored the second fewest points of any team in Week 2. The leading scorer for Team Watts in this game was Samuel Weeks who scored 12 of those points. Samuel was the only player for Team Watts to record double digit points in Week 2. The scheduling gods have not been very kind to Team Watts early in this season as they’ve had to play the #4 and #5 ranked teams the first two weeks. Regardless of who they must play, they’ll still need much more production on both ends of the court if they want to get their first win in Week 3. Team Immunity (1-1) are next up on the docket coming up on Tuesday night.

Week 2 is in the books! Good luck to all in Week 3!
