2018 Chicago Spring TUESDAY Hoops Week 3 – (April 03)

By
Updated: April 4, 2018

On Tuesday evening we had another great week of basketball in the Spring TUESDAY Hoops League! Don’t look now, but Team Deutsch is the only team that remains that has a big fat ZERO in the loss column through the first three weeks. Team Dean on the other hand has bounced back nicely since their opening night loss and now have won two straight games to start their 2018 campaign. They are starting to look like the team we expected them to be heading into the 2018 Spring season. Meanwhile, Team Jimenez’s early season struggles continue, while newcomers, Team Immunity, have dropped two games in a row and are on the outside looking in. Week 4 will be the more than half way point (can you believe it?) for the regular season. This is the time in the season where teams start/stop making stands and intentions known. This league is so evenly balanced in terms of talent and style, you can’t help but wonder which team(s) will start to cement their names at the top of our standings during the final four weeks of regular season play. With three weeks down and in the books, here’s how we view the league’s current power structure in the Spring TUESDAY Hoops League.

Power Rankings

1. Team Deutsch – 3-0

Team Deutsch have once again showed everyone in the league what they are all about. In what was our Week 2 Game of the Week, Team Deutsch put up a whopping 98 points to cruise past former #1 and defending champions, Team Darcy. By the final score of 98-82, Team Deutsch picked up their third consecutive victory and are the only team to remain unbeaten through the first three weeks. The win also moves them up into the #1 spot in the Week 3 Power Rankings! Team Deutsch is the highest scoring team in the league through the first three weeks and their wins are coming by an average of more than 16 PPG. This team is scary good right now. Hunter, making his season debut, put on a show on Tuesday night by dropping a huge 30-point performance to carry his guys to victory over a very tough Team Darcy squad. Brian Oddo also continues to be a model of consistency for Team Deutsch, scoring 24 points in this game to bring his season average to 19 PPG. He has now scored at least 14 points in all three of his starts. Team Deutsch will look to make it four in a row and continue maintaining the top of the mountain against a 2-1 Team Knox club in what will be our Week 4 Game of the Week!

2. Team Darcy – 2-1

Moving down 1 spot into the #2 hole in the Week 2 Power Rankings is Team Darcy. In what was our Week 2 Game of the Week, the defending champions took their first loss in the Spring TUESDAY Hoops campaign, losing to Team Deutsch by a final score of 98-82. Team Darcy really struggled on the defensive end of the court in this one, allowing almost 30 points more than their season average against of 66.3 PPG this season. The leading scorer for Team Darcy was Dan Turner who accounted for 19 points of their 82 points. All six of their available players were able to get on the scoreboard on Tuesday night with double digit scoring efforts, unfortunately it just wasn’t enough to get by the highest scoring team in the league through the first 3 weeks. Next up for Team Darcy coming up on Tuesday night is a showdown against Team Watts (1-2), as they will look to shake off this tough loss and get back into the winner’s circle.

3. Team Knox – 2-1

By the final score of 85-53, Team Knox dismantled Team Jimenez on Tuesday night. The win brings their record back up over the .500 mark to 2-1 and moves them up into the #3 spot in the Week 3 Power Rankings. They really came out firing on all cylinders in this game, beating their points per game average of 78. Tremell Adams had a monster game to guide the team’s Offense with 28 points. He wasn’t the only guy that had a huge night for Team Knox on Tuesday evening as Toussaint Knox put up 17 points while Captain Andre Knox and Chris White both contributed with 15 points of their own. Marcus White also stepped up and contributed 8 points as all their available players contributed to this dominant victory. Team Knox will look to bring their record up to 3-1 coming up on Tuesday night with a showdown versus #1 and undefeated Team Deutsch (3-0) in what will be our Week 3 Game of the Week!

4. Team Dean – 2-1

After starting their Spring TUESDAY Hoops season with a loss on opening night, Team Dean has now ripped off two straight wins to bring their record back above the .500 mark. By the final score of 78-70, Team Dean squeaked by a feisty Team Shlofrock squad to pick up their second victory on this young season. The win also moves Team Dean into the #4 spot in the Week 3 Power Rankings. Michael Mulroe paced the squad in this game with 15 points, while Danny and Jeremy both put up 12 to help seal this victory. Team Dean will look to keep rolling in Week 4 against the lowest scoring offense in the league as they have a date with a winless Team Jimenez (0-3) squad that’s averaging just over 44 PPG. While Team Dean may be the heavy favorites heading into this match-up, they certainly do not want to overlook these guys as anyone in this league can be beaten at any time.

5. Team Shlofrock – 1-2

Team Shlofrock fell to Team Dean on Tuesday Night, and as a result, dropped down to the #5 spot in the Week 3 Power Rankings. However, they are still in our Top-5 Power Rankings as well as in the Top-5 in terms of team scoring. There is no need to panic or worry (yet) for Team Shlofrock as they still have big games on the calendar coming up. Andrew Marks, who has been very consistent to start the season for Team Shlofrock, led the team in scoring once again in Week 3 with 16 points. Captain Jake had another solid outing, his second straight, putting up 15 points of his own. Jordan Silver, David Zale and Christopher Kozloff also combined to score 31 for Team Shlofrock in this one. Unfortunately, all these impressive performances did not translate into a victory on Tuesday evening and that is what ultimately matters. They look to improve a little bit on the defensive end and get back to .500 in Week 4 against another 1-2 squad, Team Immunity. Huge game for both teams coming up on Tuesday night.

6. Team Watts – 1-2

After two weeks and two losses to begin their Spring TUESDAY Hoops season, Team Watts must not have been feeling too great about themselves. Then Week 3 came along and my, what a difference one week makes! Team Watts recorded a huge win on Tuesday night over Team Immunity by the final score of 72-67, their first of the year. The win moves them up into the #6 spot in the Week 3 Power Rankings. They really brought their A game in this one, besting their PPG average of 66.0. Special shout out to Connor Shields who had a very nice Week 3 performance to steer the group’s attack with 21 points. The 21 points was a season high so far for Connor! Captain Mack Watts also had his best scoring night of the season, dropping 17 huge points to help his squad get that illusive first victory. #2 Team Darcy (2-1) are next up on the schedule in Week 4 for Team Watts as they look to build on this massive Week 3 victory.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Immunity – 1-2

Team Immunity and Team Watts competed in one of the closest games on Tuesday evening. With a final score of 72-67, Team Immunity dropped their second consecutive game to fall to 1-2 on the young season. The leading scorer for Team Immunity was none other than Captain Isaiah Watts, who went for 26 huge points. Captain Isaiah now sits in 7th overall for the leagues scoring title with this offensive outburst on Tuesday night, bringing his season average to 17 PPG. Unfortunately for Isaiah and Co., they were shut down everywhere else by a stifling Team Watts D on Tuesday evening. This game could have gone either way and will be a game that can have major implications down the road come playoff time. Team Immunity must forget about this loss as soon as possible however as Team Shlofrock (1-2) are next up on the calendar coming up on Tuesday night. They will need to get back to the drawing board and try to fix whatever seems to have been broken over the last two weeks and quickly bounce back from this critical loss.

Team Jimenez – 0-3

Team Jimenez produced their highest scoring output of the young season on Tuesday night, scoring 53 points…almost 10 PPG better than their season average. Unfortunately for Team Jimenez, they still ended up losing by 32 points. Falling by a final score of 85-53, Team Jimenez dropped their third consecutive game to start their 2018 campaign. The good news for these guys is that they still have four more games to make an impact on where they will be seeded come playoff time. They really need to buckle down and work hard on both ends of the court and they will start to see some positive results. They have the talent to compete with others in this league. Tommy went for 19 points in this one to lead his squad in scoring and they will need to continue to get that kind of production out of him to turn this season around. Coming up on Tuesday night, Team Jimenez battles against Team Dean (2-1) as they attempt to get their first win on the 2018 campaign. A win in Week 4 can move them into the Week 4 Power Rankings.

That’s it for Week 3. We’ll see everyone back on the court on Tuesday night!
