2018 Chicago Summer TUESDAY Hoops Week 2 – (June 19)

By
Updated: June 22, 2018

We got back to action on Tuesday evening for Week 2 of the Summer TUESDAY Hoops League! When the dust settled, we only have one team that is left undefeated, four teams at 1-1 and one team that is still winless on the 2018 Summer campaign. Team Darcy has lost back-to-back games to begin the Summer season and will have a big hole to climb out of but still have five regular season games remaining to make some noise prior to the playoffs beginning. Team Deutsch has won two very solid games to start their 2018 Summer season and stays in the #1 spot in the Week 2 Power Rankings. It has certainly been an interesting start to the Summer! In the grand scheme of things, odds are none of that matters though. Teams rarely look the same in June/July as they do in August. But as far as early-season power rankings are concerned, it matters a great deal. On to our Week 2 Power Rankings…

Power Rankings

1. Team Deutsch – 2-0

A week after picking up a very solid victory on opening night against Team Darcy, Team Deutsch picked up their second win in a row on the young season and stay in the #1 spot in the Week 2 Power Rankings. Team Deutsch recorded a 17-point victory on Tuesday night by the final score of 94-77 over Team Dean to remain unbeaten on the young season. They really brought it in this game as four different players recorded double digit points, led by Brian Oddo’s HUGE 38-point performance. Mr. Oddo is the league’s leading scorer after 2 weeks of play, posting a league high 32.5 PPG. Jake Bischoff had another quality showing to supplement the club’s Offense with 28 points, while David Hess pitched in with 14 points to help seal the victory early in this one. Team Deutsch is looking like a team on a mission through the first two weeks of games. Next up for Team Deutsch is a Brother vs. Brother showdown against Team Maione (1-1), in what will be our Week 3 Game of the Week!

2. Team Maione – 1-1

Moving down 1 spot into the #2 hole in the Week 2 Power Rankings is Team Maione. In what ended up being the closest game of the night, Team Maione lost a heartbreaker to #4 Team Berkson by the final score of 66-65. Tellef Lundevall led the squad in scoring in this low scoring affair, pacing Team Maione with 18 points. Captain Bradley Deutsch has been a model of consistency for this squad through the first two games, dropping 14 points in Week 2 after putting up 13 in Week 1. Both teams were extremely solid on the defensive end of the court, holding each other to season lows in scoring and frustrating each other on the offensive side of the ball all game long. The loss drops Team Maione’s record to 1-1 and they will be looking to get back on track on Tuesday night in our Week 2 Game of the Week. A loss would drop them below the .500 mark while a win can push them back up into the #1 spot. Huge game coming up in Week 2.

3. The Movement – 1-1

The Movement got a big W on Tuesday night, their first on the season. The win moves The Movement from the bottom of our Power Rankings all the way up into the #3 spot in the Week 2 Power Rankings. They were paired up in Week 2 with a veteran and very strong Team Darcy squad, who were coming off a tough Week 1 loss themselves and were able to leave WCFH with a huge 68-63 victory. Captain Robert Snowden had a gigantic performance to lead the club’s Offense with 23 points on Tuesday night. Captain Snowden was clutch all game long but none more than late in the second half with a couple of big 3 pointers to wrap up the victory. It wasn’t all about Captain Snowden for The Movement however as Lonnie Randolph and Jonathan Thomas turned in a couple of very good performances themselves by combining to score 27 points to help seal The Movement’s first victory this season and first overall All Sports Series Hoops victory. Team Dean (1-1) are next on the schedule for The Movement who will also be looking to snatch their second victory on the season and attempt to move into the Top-2 in the Week 3 Power Rankings. Big game for both squads coming up on Tuesday night.

4. Team Berkson – 1-1

Moving up from the #5 spot in Week 1 to the #4 spot in Week 2 is non-other than Team Berkson, who are led by their team captain, Justin Berkson. They recorded a very solid tally in the win column on Tuesday night and a huge upset victory by the final score of 66-65 over Team Maione, to get their record to .500 on the young season. These guys really brought it on the defensive end in this game, allowing the second fewest points of any team in Week 2. Andrew Stempel and Justin Busiel were the anchors on offense for Team Berkson in this one, combining to score 34 in this one. Matt Kaplan chipped in with 11 points while Captain Berkson and Cole Kirsh combined to score 8 to help bring this squad their first victory of the Summer TUESDAY Hoops season. Team Darcy, who sport a 0-2 record and will be doing whatever they can to claim their first W on the season, are next on the calendar for Team Berkson coming up on Tuesday night in what will be a pivotal matchup for both crews.

5. Team Dean – 1-1

After a dominating performance in Week 1, Team Dean came back down to earth in Week 2 as they struggled to get it going on both ends of the court, allowing 34 more points than their total from Week 1. By a final score of 94-77, Team Dean took their first loss on the season as they could not slow down a hot shooting Team Deutsch squad. They’ll need to find more offense and clean up a few things on the defensive end of the court if they plan on staying in the Top-5 in the Week 3 Power Rankings. The loss pushes them down to the #5 spot in our Week 2 Power Rankings. Even in a losing effort, Courtney Griffin had another nice game to lead the group’s Offense with 26 points, while Bryan Daly netted 12 points. For Team Dean, they will have a battle with The Movement (1-1) in Week 3 as they try to rebound from this tough loss. A win can see them jump into the top 3 of our Power Rankings while another loss can see them dip to the #6 spot. Huge game coming up for them in Week 2.

6. Team Darcy – 0-2

Back to back losses have now dropped Team Darcy and Captain Bret Darcy’s record to 0-2 on the season. This is certainly not the way this crew thought they would start their season. In this loss, Tim Dunlaey had a huge bounce back performance from Week 1 with a big 20-point performance to lead this squad in scoring. Meanwhile, Sam Martinez, Dan Turner Captain Bret and Bryan Daly all combined to score 46 points to help keep their guys in the game. They just could not make a couple of key stops down the stretch to snag the victory. Next up for Team Darcy is a match-up against #4 Team Berkson (1-1) who will be highly motivated coming off a huge Week 2 victory over #2 Team Maione. A win in Week 3 for Team Darcy can get them right back into the thick of things while a third straight loss could leave them with a huge mountain to climb the rest of the season.

That’s a wrap for Week 1! Looking forward to another great week coming up on Tuesday night!
