2018 Chicago Summer TUESDAY Hoops Week 3 – (June 26)

Updated: June 29, 2018

Tuesday night was just the latest example of the amount of talent that is running through the Tuesday Summer Hoops League. We saw our last standing undefeated team lose on Tuesday evening and somehow it did not seem to be a big upset. That is because this Summer league is so deep with a TON of potential Champs and it’s anyone’s league to win. Teams were also eager to get in a win before the 4th of July holiday break and jockey for position in the standings before they get the week off. Every team is now within 1 game of the top spot in the standings and the final 4 weeks of the regular season are going to be very exciting. We are going to review all the Week 3 action below…

Power Rankings

1. Team Maione – 2-1

Team Maione came out in Week 3 and got a huge victory against former #1 Team Deutsch by the final score of 92-84. The 92 points was the highest scoring team total this week. This squad is officially 2-1 this Summer season and have gotten back on track after their shocking Week 2 defeat to Team Berkson. They have more than put that Week 2 loss behind them though. Chris Ray came out firing on all cylinders as he put up a team high of 27 points to lead this squad to a huge Week 3 victory and put them in a 3-way tie atop the standings. Blake Mulliman and Matt Vogrich both pitched in with 18 points to help seal the deal. Captain Bradley Deutsch can go into the 4th of July holiday break with a big smile on his face as his squad recorded a huge victory over his brother’s squad. Nothing like a little brotherly rivalry before the holidays! Coming up in Week 4 on Tuesday, July 10th, they hope to continue their dominance and winning ways against Team Darcy (1-2) in what is sure to be one of the better games of the week.

2. Team Deutsch – 2-1

Former #1 Team Deutsch had a rough week 3 in the Summer Tuesday Hoops League, suffering their first loss of the season to #1 Team Maione by a final score of 92-84. Not only did Captain Justin’s squad take their first defeat on the season this past Tuesday, but it also came at the hands of his brother’s squad, Team Maione. No doubt in my mind that there will be a little family chattering about this one over the holiday break. Jake Bischoff led all scorers in this game, posting a huge 29-point performance. Team Deutsch also got some big contributions from Brian Oddo, David Hess and Hunter Hill, who all combined to score 52 of the teams 84 points. Team Deutsch is, without a doubt, an elite team in the league and will be sure to head into week 4 on July 10th with a full head of steam against a very formidable The Movement crew who will also be coming off a tough Week 2 loss.

3. Team Dean – 2-1

Moving back up 2 spots into the #3 hole in the Week 3 Power Rankings is none other than Team Dean. In what ended up being the lowest scoreing affair on Tuesday night, Team Dean squeezed by The Movement squad by a final score of 65-53. Team Dean was determined to get a Week 3 W after suffering a slight setback in Week 2 against former #1 Team Deutsch. Team Shlofrock absolutely dominated on the defensive end of the court, holding The Movement to a season low 53 points. Courtney Griffin put on a clinic scoring 29 of the teams 65 total points. Captain Tred Dean also chipped in with 13 points of his own but was the anchor on the defensive end of the court, holding down a high flying The Movement team. They will take on Team Berkson in Week 4 on July 10th once we return from holiday break. A win can see Team Dean sneak into the Top-2 of our Power Rankings while a loss can hypothetically push them all the way to the bottom. Huge game coming up in Week 4.

4. Team Darcy – 1-2

Team Darcy recorded their first win of the season in dominating fashion in Week 3 against Team Berkson by a final score of 81-52. Team Darcy is not familiar with slow starts and were determined to get into the Win column in Week 3. Team Darcy was led by Tim Dunlaey who scored 22 points and Dan Turner who pitched in with 21. Tom Dunlaey and Jason Domash rounded off the scoring for Team Darcy, combing to put up 30 points between the two of them. Team Darcy showed why they have been one of the Hoops Leagues’ very best over the past few years on Tuesday night and we are excited to see what the rest of this Summer season has in store for them. Team Darcy will hope to continue their roll in Week 4 once we return from holiday break against familiar Summer league foes – #1 Team Maione. This has instant classic written all over it.

5. The Movement – 1-2

The Movement regrettably could not bring the momentum from the win last week to this week, as they lost to Team Dean by the final score of 65-53. Because of this loss, The Movement moves down 2 spots in the Week 3 Power Rankings. The Movement had the luxury of introducing Ron King into their lineup for the very first time this season and he certainly did not disappoint, contributing a team high 25 points to help keep his squad in this game. Unfortunately for The Movement, they just could not find much offense anywhere else on Tuesday evening. Willie Harris was able to pitch in with 13 points while Captain Robert Snowden had his lowest scoring game of the season, putting up 9 points (6 below his season average). The Movement was only able to dress six players in Week 3 and it ultimately cost them in the end as they just could not make the necessary stops on the defensive end down the stretch. They will try to get back into the win column in Week 4 once we return from holiday break against #2 Team Deutsch in what should be an offensive battle.

6. Team Berkson – 1-2

After recording one of the biggest upsets thus far this season in Week 2 with a gutsy win over #1 Team Maione, Team Berkson came crashing back to earth in Week 3 as they suffered a lopsided defeat to Team Darcy by a final score of 81-52. The teams’ efforts were led by Mitchell Talbot who contributed with 14 points while Captain Justin and Matt Kaplan both pitched in with 10 points of their own. Team Berkson struggled to find any kind of consistent offense all evening in this matchup and simply could not hold down the hot shooting hands of Team Darcy. They’ll need to shake off this loss quickly as the schedule only gets tougher from here on out. Coming up in Week 4 once we return from holiday break they get a match-up against #3 Team Dean in an opportunity to get themselves back to a .500 record.

That’s it for Week 3. Have a great holiday!
