Championship TUESDAY Review

Final4: #1 Lenny and the Jets vs. #5 Team Bollier

Team Bollier came into the Final4 as the underdog following an upset win in the Elite8 against #4 Team Knox. Of the four teams that remained standing on Tuesday night, #5 Team Bollier was the one wearing Cinderella’s slipper. They were up and down the entire regular season and entered the WINTER Tuesday Playoffs just one game above .500 at 4-3. However, they did enter the postseason with consecutive regular season wins and had some strong momentum going into their Elite8 match-up with #4 Team Knox. That momentum proved to be real as they won that Elite8 game to earn their spot in the Final4 against #1 Team Lenny and the Jets. By a final shocking score of 82-75, they would end up locking in their spot in the Championship! Rodney Clark was an absolute beast in this game, posting 31 massive points, as he was not going to let his squad be denied the opportunity to play for the crown. Timothy Rusthoven also had a very big Final4 game, as he was able to pitch in with 18.

As for Team Lenny and the Jets, a squad that held the #1 spot in our weekly Power Rankings since Week 2, it was certainly a disappointing and too soon of an ending to their season. They certainly had higher expectations as they entered the postseason with only 1 loss on their record and were the clear-cut favorites to make it to the title game. They cruised through their Elite8 match-up securing a 20-point victory over #8 Team Lugar and had their eyes set to reach the title game. However, it just was not meant to be on Tuesday night as Team Lenny and the Jets were knocked off in the Final4 by #5 Team Bollier, 82-75. Daniel Macks, the leagues overall leading scorer, did everything he could to give his guys the opportunity to play for the chip, but his 27-point performance was just not enough to get past a streaking Team Bollier squad. Overall though, it was a fantastic season and we hope to see you guys back out there in the Spring. Thanks for playing!

Final4: #2 bdarcy@commandtransportation.com vs. #3 Team Tucci

#2 Bdarcy and #3 Team Tucci both had realistic expectations to be the final squad standing on Tuesday evening and both knew that it would take everything they got to not just win this Final4 match-up, but to go on and defeat #5 Team Bollier who was already waiting in the title game for them. These two teams met in the regular season finale and we saw #2 Bdarcy walk out of WCFH with a 16-point victory. Albiet, it was the back end of a double header for Team Tucci who simply ran out of gas in that one. For defending Champs Bdarcy, that regular season finale W over Team Tucci made it five wins a row entering the postseason. They clearly were one of the hottest teams in the league entering the Playoffs and were got going to be denied the opportunity to defend their title. By the final score of 76-73 and on the back of Tim Dunlaey who carried his guys the entire game in this one, posting 26 massive points, Bdarcy were able to squeeze by #3 Team Tucci and book their ticket into the Winter TUESDAY Championship Game!

For Team Tucci, it was a heartbreaking, disappointing, gut-wrenching (whatever you want to call it) finish to their season. There is no doubt about that. By the final score of 76-73, Team Tucci fell just shy to play for the right to be the 2018 Winter Tuesday Champions. They played well enough to win this one. They played well enough all season to make it to the title game and win it. It just was one of those ballgames where it was a shame either squad had to lose. The game seemed to remain a one-possession ballgame all night. Team Tucci had the opportunity to tie the game and take it into overtime with a final shot at the buzzer, but the ball would did not find the bottom of the net. Captain Alan Tucci had an MVP type performance, as he has all season, and posted 22 big points to give his squad a chance to win this game. Ryan Brown was right behind him as well as he was able to muster up 21 points. Team Tucci seems to always be right there but are still searching for that illusive first All-Sports Series Crown. We hope to see them out there this Spring. Thanks for playing!

Championship: #2 bdarcy@commandtransportation.com vs. #5 Team Bollier

As soon as they walked away from their dramatic Final4 victory over #3 Team Tucci, #2 Team BDarcy had zero time to celebrate this victory as they had to lace them right back up and get right back onto the court for the Championship against the now fresh and rested #5 Team Bollier. #5 Team Bollier was aware of this and pushed the tempo early on. Timothy J Rusthoven for Team Bollier was ready for this moment on the big stage and scored 27 huge points to lead all scorers in this Championship ballgame and really gave it his all to help his squad secure their first All Sports Series crown. After his massive 31-point performance in Team Bollier’s Final4 game, Rodney Clark struggled to get it going in the Championship and was able to finish with 12 points. With 15 seconds left on the clock and an opportunity to take the Championship game into overtime, Team Bollier would miss a very tough and contested three pointer that hit the side of the rim and lose in the title game by the final score of 80-77. For Team Bollier, their second playoff journey as a unit in the All Sports Series Hoops League, finished with a trip to the title game. This is something they should be very proud of. As they say, “the third time is the charm?!” They don’t need to make any adjustments to be true contenders once again in the Spring and hopefully we’ll see them back out there very soon fighting for that crown once again. Thanks for playing!

4x and Back-to-Back CHAMPS! After a somewhat slow start to their 2018 Winter season, Team Bdary really turned on the heat over the last month and a half of the season and were not going to be denied their 4th overall All Sports Series crown. They were one of the best defensive teams in this league and their defense came up huge in the final play of their 2018 Winter season. Team Bollier had a opportunity to take the championship game into overtime but Team BDarcy suffocated the ball and forced Team Bollier into an almost impossible heave at the very end, that would come up short and secure their second start title. Finals MVP Tim Dunlaey came up with a masterful performance in the final, scoring 22 huge points to help lift his boys to the crown. They will be proud of this one, as they should be as it took everything they had playing in back-to-back games. These guys will look to make it a 3-Peat coming up in our 2018 Spring league. Thanks for playing!

That’s it for the 2018 Winter Tuesday Hoops league. Thanks again to all the teams and we look forward to seeing you all back in the Spring!
