All Sports Series Playoffs Week 1 Review

Open. Rd.: #8 Team Luger vs. #9 Team Bernstein

Winner plays #1. Team Lenny and the Jets

This ended up being the Game of the Week! These two squads battled until the very end, literally. Both teams had guys making big-time play after big-time play. By the final score of 62-61, Team Luger was able to gut one out and advance into the Elite8. Danny Freed went for 23 to lead Team Luger in the opening round while Judd Barron had 20. Team Luger was able to knock down a few shots and grab a lead in what was seemingly a one-possession game the entire time. They were able to dig deep and find a way to pull it out and would advance to the Elite8 for a date with #1 Lenny and the Jets!

For Team Bernstein, this was not the way they saw this season going. These guys jumped into the league late and were forced to do some catching up very quickly. They came into Tuesday night as the #9 seed and gave the #8 seed, Team Luger all that they can handle. They had a chance at the very end with a shot thrown up at the buzzer, but it wasn’t meant to be. The team’s leading scorer on the season, Samuel Ross, had a very nice opening round game by putting up 15 points. Unfortunately, these guys lost a heartbreaker by a final score of 62-61. These guys are as veteran as it comes in All Sports Series and they’ll be back soon. We hope to see them in one of the Spring Leagues coming up. Thanks for playing!

Elite8: #1 Team Lenny and the Jets vs. #8 Team Luger

For as good as Team Luger looked in Game 1 to earn their spot in this game, it was really the opposite in this one. Them Luger were just gassed. #1 Lenny and the Jets did not take pity on Team Luger and pushed the pace. Falling by a final score of 69-49, Team Luger came up just a little shy. They started off the game with the same momentum that they had in their Opening Rd game, but could not keep it up in the second half. Judd Baron scored 22 and Danny Freed had 16 however they could not find much production from anyone else. These guys will be back and if they can get their full roster intact for the Spring, they will once again be among the title favorites. Thanks for playing gentleman!

For Lenny and the Jets, they came into the playoffs as the #1 seed and overall title favorites. They did not disappoint on Tuesday night. By a final score of 69-49, Lenny and the Jets cruised by Team Luger and booked their spot in the Final4. The leagues overall leading scorer, Daniel Macks, stepped up big once again in this Elite8 round match-up and dropped 25 huge points to help his squad reach the Final4. Coming up on Tuesday night, Lenny and the Jets will get a rematch against Team Bollier in the Final4 for a chance to book their ticket into the title game. These two teams played each other back on opening night and Lenny and the Jets walked away with a 5-point victory that night. They will be looking to repeat that performance once again coming up on Tuesday night!

Elite8: #4 Team Knox vs. #5 Team Bollier

Both squads came into the Elite8 round match-up with title aspirations on their minds. Unfortunately for Team Knox, their season ended earlier than they expected. By a final score of 85-75, Team Knox lost a close one and finished their season with an overall 5-4 record. The teams leading scorer, Tremell Adams, had his worst offensive performance on the season as he was only able to muster up 14 points. David Johnson carried the offensive load in this one, dropping 23 big time points but in the end, it just wasn’t enough. This crew will get back to the drawing board in the off-season and will be back with a vengeance. Thank you again for playing and we hope to see you guys in one of our Spring leagues!

For Team Bollier, they got some revenge for their loss against Team Knox back in Week 5 and booked their tickets into the Final4 coming up on Tuesday night with a massive 85-75 victory. These guys are playing some great basketball and it’s coming at the perfect time. This was their third consecutive win and brings their overall season record to 5-3. Rodney Clark had a monster game, dropping 36 massive points, his highest total this season. Nikko Robertson also did some heavy lifting in this one, producing 28 points. Next up for Team Bollier is a date with #1 Lenny and the Jets in the Final4 coming up on Tuesday night with a chance to compete in the Winter TUESDAY Hoops Final!

Elite8: #2 bdarcy@commandtransportation.com vs. #7 Team Kaplan

Team Kaplan knew that they had a tough mountain to climb in their Elite8 round match-up with defending champs BDarcy on the schedule. The mountain proved to be too steep to climb as Team Kaplan lost 84-59. Team Kaplan showed a ton of fight to begin this game on their final night of the Winter season. They had four different guys in double digits, a common theme from this crew during the regular season. The issue seemed to be that they just could not find that one guy to have a huge offensive night like some of the top teams had. It would be great to see this group back in the Spring to see what kind of damage they can do. Thank you for playing and we hope you see you all back in the Spring!

We’ve talked about their resume many times during the season. Team BDarcy has won 3 titles over the past four seasons in All Sports Series leagues. They have been to 6 straight Final4s. They were looking to make that 7 for 7 here on Tuesday night against a Team Kaplan squad that was not going to go down without a fight. By the final score of 84-59, Team BDarcy picked up their 5th consecutive win and booked their 7th straight trip into the Final4! This was an absolute all-around team performance as six different players were able to record double digit scoring figures. Sam Martinez led the way with 17 while Tom Dunlaey chipped in 16 to help these guys cruise to a 25-point victory. Team BDarcy now gets a date with Team Tucci in the Final4 coming up on Tuesday night with the winner advancing to the Championship game. These two teams squared off against one another back in Week 7 and BDarcy walked away with a 16-point victory. I have a feeling this Final4 match-up will be much closer.

Elite8: #3 Team Tucci vs. #6 Team Shlofrock

We mentioned in last week’s Playoff Preview that Team Shlofrock had won the first match-up between these two teams on opening night by 15 points. Team Shlofrock knew that it wasn’t going to be that easy this time around and that they were in store for an epic battle. By a final score of 77-67, Team Shlofrock lost a close one and their season ended much sooner than they had hoped. All Sports Series vet and Captain Jake Shlofrock went for 18 on the night and Jake Lerman had 15. They just couldn’t slow down the potent Team Tucci offense. These guys are in every conversation with regards to title hopes in any All Sports Series league that they are in and we hope to see them give it another go in one of the Spring leagues. Thank you for playing with All Sports Series!

After a rough end to the regular season (back to back losses), Team Tucci turned their fortunes back around on Tuesday night with an impressive 77-67 victory over Team Shlofrock in their Elite8 round match-up. Captain Alan Tucci was not going to let his guys down in this one, and boy did he come through, dropping a massive 35-point performance to seal the deal! The 35 points was a season high for Captain Alan and it could not have come at a better time. They can’t celebrate for too long however as they now need to switch their attention to #2 and defending champions, BDarcy in the Final4 coming up on Tuesday night. In their previous meeting just two short weeks ago, Team Tucci lost a tough one to BDarcy by a final score of 81-66. This game is primed to be a classic and the winner will have the right to play in the championship game coming up on Tuesday night.

What a great opening night of Playoffs. Thanks again to the teams that finished up on Tuesday night and we hope to see you back in the Spring. Good luck to the Final4 teams competing on Tuesday Night!
