2018 Chicago Winter TUESDAY Hoops Week 3 – (Jan. 23)

By
Updated: January 27, 2018

Don’t look now, but we have more than half the league with only one loss. Team Knox and Team Tucci have both now won two straight games and are starting to look like the teams we expected them to be heading into the season. These two squads have a huge matchup against one another in Week 4 that will certainly have major implications down the road. Meanwhile, former champs Bdarcy’s early season struggles continue, while the 3-1 Lenny and the Jets are still rolling. Week 4 will be the more than half way point (can you believe it?) for the regular season. This is the time in the season where teams start/stop making stands and intentions known. This league is so evenly balanced in terms of talent and style, you can’t help but wonder which team(s) will start to cement their names at the top of our standings. With three weeks down and in the books, here’s how we view the league’s current power structure in the Chicago Winter TUESDAY Hoops League.

Power Rankings

1. Team Lenny and the Jets – 3-1

Lenny and the Jets have once again showed everyone in the league what they are all about. They had a nice 62-51 victory over a solid Team Shlofrock squad to improve their record to 3-1. While they are certainly not blowing anyone away, they keep coming away with solid W’s. Daniel Macks once again put on a show dropping a huge 28-point performance to carry his guys to victory over a stingy Team Shlofrock D. Robert Monfred also continues to be a model of consistency for Team Lenny, dropping 11 in this game. He has now scored in double digits in all four of his starts. Team Lenny will look to make it four in a row and continue maintaining the top of the mountain against a 1-1 Team Kaplan club who will be looking to get their second win of this 2018 season.

2. Team Knox – 2-1

The good news for Team Knox? They’re riding a two-game winning streak and just put up 82 points against All Sports Series Champs, Bdarcy, thanks to a season high 29-point night from Chris White. The even better news? Tremell Adams is still the team’s leading scorer. When you have two guys averaging almost 50 PPG combined, your team is probably pretty good. Team Knox moves into the #2 hole in Week 3 squeezing by Bdarcy 81-76. This win reinforces the fact that Team Knox will be a true contender all season and have a legitimate shot at the title. The even better better news? They arguably have played one of the toughest schedules to begin the season. All signs are pointing up right now in the Team Knox camp, but they’ll have to really buckle down and play some solid ball on Tuesday night as they welcome in the new #3 Team Tucci looking to make it three wins in a row.

3. Team Tucci – 2-1

The biggest movers in the Week 3 Power Rankings that rise into the #3 spot is none other than veteran squad Team Tucci. In the two wins since that tough season opening loss to Team Shlofrock, Team Tucci has found their stride and are putting up big points. Still worried? Better yet, were you ever? In an electrifying 85-80 victory over league scoring leaders Team Bollier, Ryan Brown, Captain Alan, Michael Gomez and Paul Kaczor all had huge nights to lead these guys to a very important victory. Team Tucci plays the definition of team ball as they seem to always get everyone involved. They can and will cause havoc for defenses and also have an opportunity on Tuesday night to continue their climb up our Rankings when they go toe-to-toe with #2 Team Knox in our Game of the Week!

4. Team Luger – 2-1

After dropping a heartbreaker to Lenny and the Jets in Week 2, Team Luger rebounds very nicely picking up a much-needed victory over Team Bernstein, 56-35. The win bumps their record up to 2-1 and moves them up two spots in this week’s Power Rankings. They controlled most of this game and eventually won by 21 over Team Bernstein who was playing their second game of the night. Team Luger was even without their leading scorer Judd Barron but Captain Max continues to put up solid numbers on a weekly basis and led his squad in scoring, dropping 16 points. They’ll look to keep rolling in Week 4 against the league’s top scoring offense as they have a date with a 1-2 Team Bollier squad that’s averaging 79 PPG.

5. Team Bollier – 1-2

Team Bollier fell to Team Tucci on Tuesday Night, and as a result dropped three spots to the #5 this Week. However, they are still in our Top-5 and lead the league in scoring. There is no need to panic or worry (yet) for Team Bollier as they still have big games on the calendar coming up. The debut of Nikko Robertson saw him lead the league this week with 31 monstrous points, while Rodney Clark continues to put up big numbers of his own, scoring 19. Marcus Agee, who has been very consistent to start the season for Team Bollier, also added 15. Unfortunately, all of these impressive performances did not translate into a victory on Tuesday evening and that is ultimately what matters. They look to improve on the defensive end and get back to .500 in Week 4 against the guys right above them in the #4 spot, Team Luger. Huge game for both squads coming up on Tuesday night.

6. bdarcy@commandtransportation.com – 1-2

Dropping a couple spots in the Rankings this week is Team Bdarcy, falling to Team Knox in a great game. The loss was their second in a row on Tuesday Night. They just couldn’t get enough stops late in the game to get the win. Fadi Elayyan went for 25 in back to back great games for him. These guys are too good and have way too much experience to stay down for long. They’ll look to rebound quickly in Week 4 with a matchup against the winless Team Bernstein. A third straight loss would likely cause this group to drop out of our Power Rankings altogether, something they surely want to avoid.

7. Team Kaplan – 1-1

To round off our Rankings this week is #7 Team Kaplan, who rise into the Power Rankings after grabbing their first W of the Season on Tuesday Night. They won 55-44 over Team Bernstein to gain some necessary confidence heading into next week’s action. William Edge put up 18 solid points in his season debut to pace this squads’ offense. Jake P. added 16 and Captain Brett added 8 to round off this balanced scoring performance. These guys can play and as they continue to build on their chemistry they are going to become a team that no one in the league will want to play. In Week 4, they take on #1 Team Lenny and the Jets in what could ultimately shoot them up our Power Rankings or leave them hovering near the bottom.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Bernstein – 0-2

Team Bernstein opened their 2018 campaign with a double header on the schedule and came away with two losses. Team Bernstein will have to figure some things out on offense as they averaged less than 40 PPG during the first two games. In game one of their double header they lost a tough one to Team Kaplan 55-44. All eight of their players were able to get on the scoreboard in the first game of the double dip and their defense played well. Unfortunately, they came up just a little shy. They had no time to let that loss sink in as they immediately had to turn around and play Game 2. They played against Team Luger and lost by 21. In game two Samuel Ross, Captain Jordan and Jared Levin combined to score 28 of the teams 35 points. Tough to beat any team when you don’t get contributions from everyone. They look to get back to .500 in Week 4 with another double header on the docket when they take on a 1-2 Team Shlofrock in Game 1 then a 1-2 Bdarcy in Game 2.

Team Shlofrock – 1-2

Team Shlofrock dropped their Week 3 Game to #1 Lenny and the Jets. Because of this loss, they now have dropped out of our Power Rankings in Week 3. Captain Jake scored 20 to lead them in scoring. Jake Lerman was in double figures for the 3rd time this season, dropping 18 points. They now look ahead to Week 4 where they will compete against Team Bernstein, who will be searching for their first win of the 2018 season. This will be a great opportunity for Team Shlofrock to turn it all around and get back into our Power Rankings.

Important games coming up in Week 4!
