Power Rankings

1. Team Scornavacco – 2-0

Team Scornavacco, captained by their leader Charlie, came into Week 1 as the only team with a double header on their slate. They leave Week 1 with the #1 overall ranking as they took care of business in both of their games and will now enter Week 2 as the only team at 2-0. In game one of their scheduled double header, they dominated Team Lowenthal from the start and ended up winning by a final score of 26-6. QB Noah Prebish tossed a nice TD pass to Gio Diz while captain Charlie rushed one in to put this game away early. Their defense also dominated as they only let up 6 points (on a defensive TD) and had two pick-6’s by Gio Diaz and Lucas Platt. They did not have much time to celebrate this dominating performance as they had to turn right back around and face Team Kirsch in Game 2 of their scheduled double header. From a defensive perspective, they dominated this game once again. By a final score of 8-2, Team Scornavacco picked up their second straight victory and brought their record up to 2-0. They only let up a safety in this game and through the first 2 games have not allowed an offensive touchdown. Noah Prebish was the only player to record an offensive TD (rushing) in this game, but that was enough to secure their 2nd victory on this young season. Team Scornavacco will look to keep this momentum rolling into Week 2 when we return from Homecoming Break, as they face off against the squad that made it to the Championship game in 2017, Team Dincin (1-0) in our Week 2 Game of the Week!

2. Team Dincin – 1-0

If not for Team Scornavacco’s double header sweep in Week 1, then Team Dincin would have been the #1 ranked squad after Week 1. Team Dincin returns to the HP Flag Football league for the second straight season as they will be looking to avenge their loss in the Championship Game in 2017. They are certainly a squad that is proud of what they accomplished last year but they come into the 2018 season wanting more….much more! While they didn’t win the whole thing in 2017, they finished 2nd and were the only team to defeat the imposing Team Goldberg all season long. This is a group that can build upon their Playoff run last year and earn a Crown in 2018. In their 2018 season opener, they defeated Team Marmitt 26-6 and did so on the back of Dylan Weiskirch. Dylan absolutely dominated in this performance as he accounted for all 26 points. Dylan threw a very nice TD pass to Sam Lothan, rushed in 2 TD’s and had an 80-yard pick 6 to help seal this victory. They were very, very impressive in Week 1. They take on a familiar foe, Team Scornavacco (2-0) in Week 2 when we return from Homecoming break where they will attempt to get to 2-0 in our Week 2 Game of the Week!

3. Team Baum – 1-0

Team Baum was a little shorthanded in their 2018 season opener but still had a very nice Week 1. They defeated Team Goldman 14-6 on Saturday to record their first victory on the 2018 campaign. Both squads struggled to get things rolling offensively but Captain Max was able to call in some solid reserves and help secure this squads first victory in 2018. They were able to make some very solid plays of offense (check out the highlight video) while their defense put up a dominating performance, allowing only 6 points. Things got a little testy towards the end of this game as both squads wanted to secure this Week 1 victory. Cooler heads would ultimately prevail however. They will come into Week 2 when we return from Homecoming break looking to stay undefeated when they take Team Kirsch (0-1).

4. Team Goldman – 0-1

Team Goldman comes back in 2018 for their second season in the HP Flag Football league and took on #3 Team Baum in Week 1. They unfortunately did not come out on the right side of the W/L column as they went down by a final score of 14-6. The good news for Team Goldman is that there is a ton of time to turn it around and Captain Jackson and co. will be just fine. Their defense played a great game, but their offense was just not clicking in their season opener. Their only score of the game come when QB Adam Glickman hit Luke Zucker on very nice TD pass. These guys have a full year of experience under their belts now and will surely be in contention all season long, even after their opening day loss. They’ll look to rebound from this performance and get back to the .500 mark in Week 2 when they take on Team Lowenthal (0-1).

5. Team Marmitt – 0-1

Team Marmitt ran into the Buzzsaw that is #2 Team Dincin in Week 1. Team Marmitt trailed by double digits throughout the second half of this game, but scores can sometimes be misleading, and that was certainly the case in this instance. Team Marmitt put together solid drives throughout this game, but repeatedly shot themselves in foot in what turned out to be a turnover fest for them. Their only score of the game came on a Danny Saslow TD pass to Aaron Powers. This squad has a full playbook and these guys are going to improve quickly as the Fall moves along. They’ll head into Week 2 after Homecoming break with a matchup against a winless Team Lowenthal squad. The winner of this game will move up our rankings while the loser may fall or stay unranked. Big game coming up for both squads in Week 2!

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Kirsch – 0-1

Team Kirsch is also back for another year in the HP Flag Football league and unfortunately started their 2018 campaign like they did their 2017 campaign. They had the unenviable task of taking on #1 Team Scornavacco in Week 1. In what ended up looking like more of a baseball score rather than a football score, Team Kirsch dropped their first game of the season by a final score of 8-2. Their defense put on a very solid display in this game, only allowing a Rushing TD. Their defense was also their only offense as they were able to record a safety for their only 2 points of the game. They offense struggled but most offenses do against Team Scornavacco. They’ll look to rebound from this tough loss in Week 2 once we return from Homecoming break as they have another tough matchup against #3 Team Baum (1-0). A win here will put them right back into the heart of the standings while a second straight defeat will leave them winless.

Team Lowenthal – 0-1

Team Lowenthal comes into the 2018 HP Flag Football league with high aspirations, just like the rest of the teams in this league, but left Week 1 questioning their performance. By a final score of 26-6, Team Lowenthal dropped their first game of the 2018 campaign against #1 Team Scornavacco and are already searching for answers. Team Lowenthal barely had any time to possess the ball in this game, so it’s difficult to make much of their offense. They also threw 2 pick-6’s which did not help their cause. Their sole 6 points came on a Tanner pick-6. Captain Nate and co. have some talent to work with and as the season moves along you can expect them to improve a ton. They can’t dwell on this performance for too long however as they have a tough Double Header looming on Saturday after Homecoming break. First, they take on #5 Team Marmitt (0-1) but then they will get a shot at #4 Team Goldman (0-1).

That’s it for the Week 1 Rankings. I’ll see everyone back on the field on Saturday, September 29th!
