Playoff Review

BYE to Final4: #1 Team Kappa Sig SR (Adam Goldberg)

They were able to rest up last week and now know that they will take on #4 Team AEPi SR in the Final4. They are just two wins away from the Back-to-Back Crowns!

Elite8: #2 Team Delta Upsilon JR (Clayton Reible) vs. #7 Team Fiji SR (Grant Bailey)

#7 Team Fiji SR and Captain Grant Bailey took the court against one of the favorites for the Crown – #2 Team Delta Upsilon JR on Tuesday night in the Elite8 round match-up. This Game went back and forth early on. It was close throughout. Maybe call it experience or maybe call it determination, but the Team DU JR squad Captained by Clayton Reible found a way to Win late by a final score of 63-54. Harry Porter had 13 in the huge Elite8 round Win for his squad. Thomas Maguire also pitched in with 12 big points of his own. Team DU got the much-deserved Win and would advance to the Final4 with a date against #6 Team Sammy SO coming up on Tuesday night. Winner of this game will move on to immediately play in the Championship Game!

For Team Fiji SR and Captain Grant Bailey – they will at least exit the All Sports Series’ Madison Leagues with a Crown (2016) to their name, something they all should be proud of! They had a GREAT run over the years but unfortunately 2018 just wasn’t the year that they were expecting. These Madison Leagues were helped built upon their shoulders. They have been a pleasure to have in the Leagues and we hope to see them in Chicago Leagues soon. Congrats on finishing up school and thanks again for playing!

Elite8: #3 Team Theta Chi SR (Noah Stern) vs. #6 Team Sammy SO (Brian Unger)

In what ended up being the upset of the night, #6 Team Sammy SO and Captain Brian Unger shocked #3 Team Theta Chi SR and would advance to the Final4! By the final score of 69-68, Team Sammy SO leaned on an expanded rotation to advance to the Final4 coming up on Tuesday night. Samual Kahn and Ryan Candel had career nights to lead the way for the Sammy SO crew, dropping a combined 43 points to held lead their squad to this upset victory. Based on what we say on Tuesday night, this Sammy SO crew might be for real and only seem to be getting better. They are clicking just at the right time. With this Elite8 round victory, Team Sammy SO sets up a Final4 match-up with #2 Team Delta Upsilon JR coming up on Tuesday night with the Winner of this game moving along to immediately play in the Championship Game!

For Team Theta Chi SR and Captain Noah Stern – it is a disappointing end as they had come into the Playoffs red-hot and fully expected to see themselves in the Final4…at worst. They know full well how hard it is to Win a Championship and it just wasn’t meant to be in 2018. These Madison Leagues were also helped built upon their shoulders. They have been nothing but professionals over the years and were a true pleasure to work with once again this year. We hope to see them in Chicago Leagues soon as well. Congrats on finishing up school and thanks again for playing!

Elite8: #4 Team AEPi SR (Ben Kohl) vs. #5 Team Sammy SR (Jared Nossen)

In last week’s Playoff Preview, we said that the #4/#5 Game has a chance to steal the show and this Game did not disappoint. Both Teams brought it on Tuesday night in this hotly contested and instant classic Elite8 round match-up. Each group wanted desperately to get the Playoff W and get an opportunity to get a shot at knocking off #1 Team Kappa Sig SR in the Final4. When all was said and done, #4 Team AEPi came out on top by a score of 50-45 to earn the huge Playoff W! Trevor Bergher was the hero of the night for Team AEPi as he led the way in this victory, dropping 14 huge points to help lead his squad to this Elite8 round victory. They’ll take on #1 Team Kappa Sig SR in the Final4 with the Winner of this match-up moving along to immediately play in the Championship Game!

For Team Sammy SR and Captain Jared Nossen, it’s a heartbreaking end to what was an overall good season in Madison. They struggled to get bodies together on most weeks but when they were able to show up, they played their hearts out. They have also been a staple in the Madison leagues over the last few years and we thank them for their participation. We hope to see them in Chicago Leagues soon as well. Congrats on finishing up school and thanks again for playing!

That’s it for the Playoff Week 1 Review. Good Luck to the Final4 Teams on Tuesday Night!
