Updated: January 24, 2020

We are now 2/3 of the way through the 2019-20 season, and Team Lakeshore show remain locked into our #1 spot as Team Swish House continues to nip at their heels.

Team Swish House are back with THE CHI Hoops longest active winning streak, which currently sits at four games following their double header sweep on Sunday evening. Despite Team Swish House’s run, it’s still not enough to unseat Eric Porter and Team Lakeshore show, who now own the league’s second longest active winning streak (three games).

Elsewhere, Team Onions slipped down into the #5 spot this week after failing to complete the season sweep of the back-to-back champs Team Wolverines. Team Maione are also back into the Top-4 in other notable developments in the top half of our rankings this week.

Power Rankings

1. Lakeshore show – 12-1

At 12-1, Team Lakeshore show have reached the two-thirds point of the season on pace for 16 regular season wins, but they have managed to stay somewhat under the radar. Their defense has been stifling all season, allowing a league best 65.7 PPG. That trend continued Sunday afternoon as they recorded an 87-63 blowout victory over #8 Team Bucket SZN. Without the services of the leagues reigning MVP Eric Porter for the first time all season, Team Lakeshore show still managed to put up their fifth highest scoring performance on the year. Brad Kruse led the way with 21 points on a whopping 10-12 shooting from the field while also hauling down 9 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists. Johnny Vernasco pitched in with 19 points (8-10 FG) and 8 rebounds of his own, and Team Lakeshore show shot a blistering 66% from the field to put this game out of reach early. Team Lakeshore show will look to make it four wins in a row when we get back from our two-week break on Sunday, February 9th. They’ll take on #2 Team Swish House (11-2) in our Week 13 Game of the Week! These two squads previously met back in Week 5 and Team Lakeshore show walked away with a close 67-59 victory.

2. Team Swish House – 11-2

It’s usually never a good sign when you must step onto the court with four new bodies two-thirds of the way into the season, let alone having to play back-to-back games. But when you are #2 Team Swish House, it’s just another day at the office. Team Swish House came into Week 12 severely shorthanded as they were only able to dress two regular starters and to make matters worse, they needed to play a double header. Unfortunately for Team Hoop Dreams and The Dribbling Seamen, that did not slow down Team Swish House a bit as they were able to record victories in both contests. In their first game of the day, All-Star and MVP candidate Brian Bracey produced 20 points (9-15 FG) to go along with 10 rebounds and 4 assists in his squads solid 90-74 victory over the hottest team in the league heading into Week 12, #6 Team Hoop Dreams. All six active players recorded double digit scoring efforts in this contest as Team Swish House recorded their third consecutive victory. They couldn’t afford to celebrate this victory for too long as they immediately needed to step back onto the court and take on #8 The Dribbling Seamen. Brian Bracy once again led the way in this contest for Team Swish House as he put up another dominating performance, finishing with 26 points (12-16 FG), 9 rebounds and 3 assists in his squads nail-biting 86-79 victory. Team Swish House will look to make it a league-high five wins in a row when we get back from our two-week break on Sunday, February 9th. They’ll take on #1 Team Lakeshore show (12-1) in our Week 13 Game of the Week with 1st place in the overall league standings on the line! This will be the last and final regular season meeting between these two squads with Team Swish House already taking a disappointing 67-59 loss back in Week 5.

3. Wolverines – 9-3

Team Wolverines remain one of the title favorites once again, and they look like a juggernaut when they’ve been healthy. The lineup of Captain Randall Hampton, Bryant Orange, Josh Davis, Timothy Flowers and Mitchell Acox Bouie – perhaps Team Wolverines best five-man unit – has outscored opponents by over 12 PPG. But availability has been a problem. And availability can continue to be an issue for them as MAB went down on Sunday afternoon with an apparent knee injury in his squads crucial 66-54 victory over #5 Team Onions in our Week 12 Game of the Week. We certainly hope MAB has a quick and speedy recovery as Team Wolverines will certainly need his services to reach their ceiling come Spring. Captain Randall Hampton and Bryant Orange paced their squad in this victory, each finishing with 19 points apiece on a combined 18-24 shooting from the field. The victory allows Team Wolverines to keep pace with #1 Team Lakeshore show as they sit 2.5 games back in the overall league standings with 6 regular season games to go. Team Wolverines will look to make it back-to-back victories when we get back from our two-week break on Sunday, February 9th. They’ll take on #8 Team Bucket SZN (4-9). These two squads previously met back in Week 5 with Team Wolverines walking away with a blowout 85-58 victory.

4. Team Maione – 9-4

Team Maione moves up into the #4 spot in the Week 12 Power Rankings without even stepping foot on the court on Sunday evening. They received a forfeit win as their opponents Team Schwartz were unable to gather enough starters to field a team on Sunday. The win gets Team Maione back into the win column following their tough Week 11 defeat. They’ll look to record back-to-back victories when they get back onto the court on Sunday, February 9th. They’ll take on Team New Birth (3-9) in what will be the last and final regular season meeting between these two squads with Team Maione already recording a 25-point victory back in Week 5.

5. Onions – 8-4

Team Onions had a disappointing performance in Week 12, losing to #3 Team Wolverines by a final score of 66-54. They recorded a very nice win in Week 11 and were eager to get back on the court to notch another W in the win column. Unfortunately, they were unable to leave the DePaul Ray Meyer Center on Sunday afternoon with a victory as Team Wolverines defense was stifling all game long. To be fair, Team Onions was missing one of their main play-makers, Joel Pennington, and struggled to get anything going offensively. Andy Stemple, Ryan Coyle and Brian N. combined to score 40 of Team Onions 54 total points. Team Onions is 3-4 in their last 7 games after starting their season 5-0. They currently trail #1 Team Lakeshore show by 3.5 games in the overall league standings with six regular season games remaining on their schedule. Team Onions will have two opportunities to bounce back from this tough performance when we get back from our two-week break on Sunday, February 9th with another double header on their slate. They’ll first take the court against Team Reisner (3-10) before running it right back against Team Schwartz (1-12). This will be Team Onions final regular season meetings with both squads as they knocked off both Team Reisner and Team Schwartz back in Week 5.

6. Hoop Dreams – 6-7

Team Hoop Dreams ran into a very determined #2 Team Swish House squad on Sunday night and came out on the losing end of a 90-74 ball game. It happens. The key is that they are gaining chemistry and are going to be that team that nobody wants to face come Playoff time. The loss also snaps what was a league-high four game winning streak. One of the squads leading scorers, Kevin Sexton, had to miss this contest but, in his absence, Max Bielfeldt put up a monster game with 29 points (12-20 FG), 7 rebounds and a couple of assists. James Webb and Clark Schmidt had nice games as well for Team Hoop Dreams, combining to score 38 points on 16-22 shooting from the field. They just couldn’t come up with enough buckets down the stretch to keep pace with the highest scoring team in the league. Team Hoop Dreams will look to start a new winning streak when we get back from our two-week break on Sunday, February 9th. They’ll take the court against #7 The Dribbling Seamen (4-9) in what will be the last and final regular season meeting between these two squads. Team Hoop Dreams will look for the regular season sweep as they knocked off The Dribbling Seamen back in Week 5 by the final score of 90-85.

7. The Dribbling Seamen – 4-9

The Dribbling Seamen were looking for that one statement victory on Sunday night, unfortunately they just could not get some late buckets to fall and ultimately lost a tough one to #2 Team Swish House by a final score of 86-79. Matt Clark, The Dribbling Seamen’s third leading scorer, erupted for a Week 12 league-high 37 points (16-21 FG), 9 rebounds and 4 assists in this contest but unfortunately it just wasn’t enough to get past a streaking Team Swish House crew. Andrew Bargmann, the squads leading scorer, also had himself a nice night on the floor, generating 20 points (8-13 FG), 6 rebounds and an assist in his squads seven-point loss to Team Swish House. The loss makes it two in a row for The Dribbling Seamen and three of their last four. They’ll look to record their fifth victory of the season when we get back from our brief two-week break on Sunday, February 9th. They’ll take the court against #6 Team Hoop Dreams in what will be the last and final regular season meeting between these two squads. In their previous match-up back in Week 5, The Dribbling Seamen lost a thriller by a final score of 90-85.

8. Bucket SZN – 4-9

Is Team Bucket SZN a Top-6 Team? We certainly think so. They probably should be much higher than that to be honest. However, the last five weeks have been tough on Captain Rodney Clark and the rest of the Team Bucket SZN crew and right now they just aren’t playing their best ball. Well, Jamie M. and Geoffrey Godwin seem to be playing some good ball. They combined for 26 points (12-19 FG) in their squads 87-63 loss to #1 Team Lakeshore show on Sunday afternoon. This team has the athleticism and talent and when they work hard on defense it really is tough to score on them. This Sunday they gave up almost 90 points, albeit it was against the third highest scoring team in the league in Team Lakeshore show. It is extremely tough to win in this league when you give up that many points. It’s time for them to flip the switch and start putting together some victories before the Playoffs get here. They get another tough opponent coming up in Week 13 when we return from our two-week break on Sunday, February 9th. #3 Team Wolverines is next up on the docket for Team Bucket SZN in what will be the last and final regular season meeting between these two squads. In their previous match-up back in Week 5, Team Bucket SZN lost a by a final score of 85-58.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

New Birth – 3-9

Team New Birth recorded a forfeit win on Sunday afternoon as their opponents Team Reisner were unable to field enough starters to play a legal game. The win moves Team New Birth’s overall record up to 3-9 on the year and sees them win back-to-back games for the first time this season. Team New Birth will look to make it three-straight victories coming up in Week 13 when we return from our two-week break on Sunday, February 9th. They’ll take the court against #4 Team Maione in what will be the last and final regular season meeting between these two squads. Team New Birth took one to the chin in their previous meeting back in Week 5, losing by a final score of 79-54.

Team Reisner – 3-10

Team Reisner were unable to field enough starters on Sunday afternoon and had to take the forfeit loss. The loss was their third in a row and drops their overall record to 3-10 on the season. Even with a 3-10 overall record, Team Reisner is only 3 games back in the league standings from taking over the #6 seed. They’ve got a huge match-up coming up in Week 13 when we return from our brief two-week break on Sunday, February 9th. They’ll take on #5 Team Onions in what will be the last and final regular season meeting between these two quads. In their previous match-up back in Week 5, Team Reisner lost a tough one by a final score of 74-67.

Team Schwartz – 1-12

Team Schwartz did not have enough available bodies to field a legal team in Week 12 and had to take a forfeit loss to #4 Team Maione. The loss makes it a league-high seven games in a row for Team Schwartz and sees their overall record fall to 1-12 on the year. Team Schwartz will look to snap their seven-game losing streak when we get back from our two-week break on Sunday, February 9th. They’ll get a rematch with #5 Team Onions. This will be the last and final regular season meeting between these two squads with Team Schwartz taking the loss back in Week 5 by a final score of 80-60.

That’s it for Week 12. Enjoy the two-week break and we’ll see everyone back on the court on Sunday, February 9th.
