Playoff Review

Opening Round:
#4 Team Anderson vs. #5 The Average Wolves of Pen Island

We mentioned in the Playoff Preview last week that this match-up was possibly going to be the best game of the night coming up on Tuesday as #4 Team Anderson and #5 The Average Wolves of Pen Island squared off in Opening Round action. Both squads finished the regular season with identical 2-5 records. #4 Team Anderson got the nod over #5 Team Dean based on H2H records. These two squads met back in Week 2 with Team Anderson securing a solid 55-44 victory. History did repeat itself on Tuesday night as #4 Team Anderson recorded another solid 60-49 victory over #5 The Average Wolves of Pen Island to advance to the Final4! Captain Ian Anderson led all scorers in Opening Round action, posting a huge 16-point performance to help his squad advance to the Final4. These two squads exchanged leads early on but ultimately it was too much Captain Anderson and Mack Watts who finished with 12 points in this contest to help their squad reach the Final4.

The Average Wolves of Pen Island came into the Playoffs with the #5 seed and winners of two straight games to end the regular season. A third straight win on Tuesday night would mean that they would advance into the Final4. Unfortunately for The Average Wolves of Pen Island, they did not have enough in the tank to take down #4 Team Anderson. Will Reedy did his best to keep his squad in this game, finishing with 16 points to lead all scorers. It was an extremely competitive Winter League and these guys battled week in and week out. They’ll look to regroup over the next couple of weeks and try to right this ship. Thanks for playing and we hope to see you guys out on the court this Spring!

Opening Round:
#3 LifeTime Blur vs. #6 INDY Team #5

Winner here would move on to face #2 Wet Dream Team in the Final4. Team LifeTime Blur, who made their All Sports Series debut this Winter, shocked the league with their play and came into the Playoffs as the overall #3 seed. Playing the #6 seed in the Opening Round, these guys were the heavy favorites to win this game and move on to the Final4. #6 INDY Team #5 was unable to field enough available players for this contest and had to take the forfeit loss. #3 Team LifeTime Blur would advance to the Final4 and pick up their first All Sports Series Playoff W.

For INDY Team #5, they didn’t get the desired results this Winter, but they got better as the season progressed and were a pleasure to have in the League. It’s certainly a difficult task to come together with strangers and hope to have instant chemistry. We hope to see them back in the Spring! Thanks for playing!

#1 Team Knox vs. Winner #4 Team Anderson

#1 Team Knox cruised through the Regular Season with not a single blemish on their record and more than earned the overall #1 seed. They awaited the Winner from the Opening Round and would end up taking the court against #4 Team Anderson. Team Anderson utilized the momentum they had from their first W to really give Team Knox a great run in the first half. Team Anderson would build a solid 6-point lead with a little over 7 minutes remaining in the first half and looked poised to knock off and shock #1 Team Knox. However, they were with only 6 guys and as the second-half progressed it was clear that Team Knox was going to pull away with this one. David Johnson led Team Knox with 22 while Tremell Adams finished with 20 of his own to help lift their squad past a tough Team Anderson crew. The overall #1 Team would eventually get the 88-80 victory and lock up their spot in the Championship Game!

For #4 Team Anderson, they left Windy City Field House on Tuesday night with a season ending loss to the #1 ranked team in the league, but they certainly should have left with their heads held high as they had a strong Winter campaign considering it was their first time playing together as a squad in this League. They obviously would have liked to go further but they ran into the tournament favorites on this night and just didn’t have enough to get past them. Connor Shields and Mack Watts finished with 16 points apiece in this Final4 match-up, but they unfortunately just did not have enough left in the tank to put #1 Team Knox away in this contest. Many of these guys will be around the Hoops League scene later this year and they will be a threat once again then. Thanks for playing and we hope to see you guys out there in the Spring!

#2 Wet Dream Team vs. Winner of #3 LifeTime Blur

#3 Team LifeTime Blur was holding tight to Cinderella’s slipper after winning their Opening Round match-up against INDY Team #5. They would now have to run it right back against #2 Wet Dream Team, a squad they beat by only 1 point back in Week 5 of the regular season. #3 LifeTime Blur likes to push the pace and has sharp shooters up and down their roster that can make big shots at any moment. That is exactly what they did against #2 Wet Dream Team in this Final4 match-up. Captain Anfernee Tevin James led all scorers in this one with 31 huge points. Anthony Granato also had a big game, chipping in with 20 points of his own. Team LifeTime Blur was just too much to handle for #2 Wet Dream Team, especially in the 2nd half and they secured the 83-70 victory to punch their ticket for the Championship Game coming up on Tuesday night!

For #2 Wet Dream Team, they played some fantastic basketball on Tuesday night and had a great inaugural season. Kyle Terpstra had a huge night for Wet Dream Team as he finished with 26 points to help keep his squad competitive in this game. Andrew Lively also had a nice night on the floor, finishing with 16 points of his own. Unfortunately for #2 Wet Dream Team, they just did not have enough answers for the Team LifeTime Blur speed and quickness. They should still be proud of their run this Winter and we hope that we will see them back on the court this Spring. Thanks to everyone for playing!

That’s it for Week 1 of the Playoffs. Thanks to those who finished up on Tuesday night and Good Luck to our Finalists!
