2019 Chicago Winter TUESDAY Hoops Week 3 – (Jan. 29)

Updated: February 4, 2019

On Tuesday evening we had another great week of basketball in the Winter TUESDAY Hoops League!

Don’t look now, but Team Knox is the only team left standing that has a big fat ZERO in the loss column through the first three weeks. Wet Dream Team on the other hand bounced back very nicely this week after their tough Week 2 loss and keep themselves within one game of the leaders, Team Knox. They are starting to look like the team we expected them to be heading into the 2019 Winter season. Meanwhile, The Average Wolves of Pen Island early season struggles continue and Team Anderson’s up and down start to the season can’t seem to even itself out.

Week 4 will mark the more than halfway point (can you believe it?) of the regular season. This is the time in the season where teams start/stop making stands and intentions known. This league is so evenly balanced in terms of talent and style, you can’t help but wonder which team(s) will start to cement their names at the top of our standings during the final four weeks of regular season play.

With three weeks down and in the books, here’s how we view the league’s current power structure in the Winter TUESDAY Hoops League.

Power Rankings

1. Team Knox – 3-0

Team Knox have once again showed everyone in the league what they are all about. In what was our Week 3 Game of the Week, Team Knox put up a very solid 83 points to squeeze by former #2 Team LifeTime Blur. By the final score of 83-75, Team Knox picked up their third consecutive victory and are the only team to remain unbeaten through the first three weeks. The win also solidifies their #1 spot in the Week 3 Power Rankings! Team Knox is the highest scoring team in the league through the first three weeks and their wins are coming by an average of more than 23 PPG. This team is scary good right now. Tremell Adams put on a show on Tuesday night by dropping a team leading 21-point performance to carry his guys to victory over a very tough Team LifeTime Blur squad. Chris Elder also continues to be a model of consistency for Team Knox, scoring 17 points in this game to bring his season average to 21.7 PPG. He has now scored at least 17 points in all three of his starts this season. Team Knox will look to make it four in a row and continue to cement their name atop of the standings against a Team Anderson club (1-2) who’ll be looking to get their record back to the .500 mark in our Week 4 Game of the Week!

2. Wet Dream Team – 2-1

Moving up two spots and into the #2 hole in the Week 3 Power Rankings is Wet Dream Team following their impressive Week 3 performance on Tuesday night. In what could have easily been dubbed our Week 3 Game of the Week, Wet Dream Team took their record back over the .500 mark in the Winter TUESDAY Hoops campaign, beating #4 Team Anderson by a final score of 59-55. Kyle Terpstra paced the squad in this game and contributed to his squads’ victory with a season-high 19 points. Adam Hufford also had a big game on Tuesday night, chipping in with 18 points of his own to help secure this very important Week 3 victory. These guys can score points when needed but their Defense is stepping up as they now have the second-best Defense in the league, holding opponents to just over 56 PPG through the first three weeks. Wet Dream Team will look to keep rolling in Week 4 against the second lowest scoring Offense in the league as they have a date with an INDY Team #5 (1-2) squad that’s averaging 49 PPG. While Wet Dream Team may be the heavy favorites heading into this match-up, they certainly do not want to overlook these guys as anyone in this league can be beaten at any time.

3. LifeTime Blur – 2-1

Moving down 1 spot and into the #3 hole in the Week 3 Power Rankings is Team LifeTime Blur. In what was our Week 3 Game of the Week, Team LifeTime Blur took their first loss in the Winter TUESDAY Hoops campaign, losing a very tough battle to #1 Team Knox by a final score of 83-75. Team LifeTime Blur struggled (as most squads do against Team Knox) on the defensive end of the court in this one, allowing almost 18 points more than their season average points against of 65. The leading scorer for Team LifeTime Blur in this contest was Gregory Gillespie who accounted for 27 of his squads 75 points. Gillespie bounced back very nicely on Tuesday night after his disappointing 2-point performance in Week 2. The squads leading scorer through the first three weeks, Captain Anfernee Tevin James, once again came up with a bigtime performance on Tuesday night, dropping a huge 24 points to help keep his squad in this game. Unfortunately for Captain James and co., it just wasn’t enough to get past the highest scoring team in the league. Next up for Team LifeTime Blur coming up on Tuesday night is a showdown against The Average Wolves of Pen Island (0-3) as they will look to shake off this tough loss and get back into the winner’s circle.

4. Team Anderson – 1-2

Team Anderson fell to #2 Wet Dream Team on Tuesday Night, and as a result, dropped down to the #4 spot in the Week 3 Power Rankings. However, they are still in our Top-4 Power Rankings as well as in the Top-4 in terms of team scoring. There is no need to panic or worry (yet) for Team Anderson as they still have big games on the calendar coming up. Kevin Collins made his season debut for Team Anderson on Tuesday night and came up with a team-high 19 points in his squads tough 59-55 loss to #2 Wet Dream Team. Mack Watts, who struggled by only scoring three points in Week 2, got back on track in Week 3 with a very solid 12-point performance. Captain Ian had another solid outing by posting 11 points of his own. Donny Nordmann and Christopher Reed also combined to score 13 points for Team Anderson in this one but unfortunately all these solid performances did not translate into a victory on Tuesday evening. They’ll look to improve on both ends of the court and get back to .500 in Week 4 against #1 Team Knox (3-0) in our Week 4 Game of the Week! Huge game for both teams coming up on Tuesday night.

5. INDY Team #5 – 1-2

Moving up into the #5 spot in the Week 3 Power Rankings is INDY Team #5. Indy Team #5 recorded a forfeit win on Tuesday evening as their opponents #6 The Average Wolves of Pen Island were unable to field enough starters to play a legal game. The win moves INDY Team #5’s overall record up to 1-2 on the year and sees them tied for 3rd place in the overall standings. INDY Team #5 will look to make it two-straight victories coming up in Week 4 with a very important match-up against #2 Wet Dream Team (2-1).

6. The Average Wolves of Pen Island – 0-3

#6 The Average Wolves of Pen Island did not have enough available bodies to field a legal team in Week 3 and had to take a forfeit loss to #5 INDY Team #5. The loss makes it three in a row for The Average Wolves of Pen Island and sees them drop into the #6 spot in the Week 3 Power Rankings. The Average Wolves of Pen Island will look to snap their three-game losing streak when they take the court in Week 4 against #3 Team LifeTime Blur (2-1).

That’s it for Week 3. We’ll see everyone back on the court on Tuesday night!
