2019 HP Prep Flag Football – Week 3 (Sept. 28)

Updated: October 4, 2019

After three weeks of the HP Prep Flag Football league, we have a few answers and a ton of questions. Captain Jackson and Team Goldman look like they’re for real, but do they have what it takes to bring down Team Gallender and Team Lowenthal and take over as the top team in the league? Billy Rudman isn’t a one-game wonder after his season high 6 TD performance on Saturday, but can he keep his hot streak going coming up in Week 4? Team Burstyn is still winless through the first three weeks of play, but will they win a regular game this season? They have a huge match-up against Team Goldman coming up in Week 4. We’ll learn the answers to the rest of these questions as we watch the rest of the season play out, but in the meantime, we’ve once again ranked every team in the league to give ourselves a better sense of how the season looks so far. Check out where all six HP Prep Flag Football teams stand heading into Week 4.

Power Rankings

1. Team Gallender – 3-0

One word…WOW! By a final score of 26-0, Team Gallender made a huge statement on Saturday afternoon, shutting out the defending Champs Team Lowenthal to take their record to a perfect 3-0. With this Week 3 victory, Team Gallender takes over the #1 spot in the Week 3 Power Rankings! Captain Josh had a big day on Saturday afternoon for Team Gallender, throwing 3 TD passes to lead his squad to this important victory. Captain Josh now leads the league in Total TD’s with 12 so far through the first 3 weeks. Zach Pomerants was all over the field as well, catching 2 TD passes while also recording a pick 6! Three games into the 2019 season, and we’ve yet to see a weak spot in the Team Gallender roster. While the road to the Championship Game in a difficult one, it looks as though Team Gallender are the early favorites to be playing in that game. They’ll look to improve to 4-0 when they take on #4 Team Fleisher (1-2) coming up on Saturday afternoon in our Week 4 Game of the Week!

2. Team Goldman – 2-1

Moving up into the #2 spot in our Week 3 Power Rankings after a dominating performance on Saturday afternoon is Team Goldman. By the final score of 33-12 over Team Segal, Team Goldman won their second straight game and now sees their record sit at 2-1. Team Goldman came into this Week 3 contest a little shorthanded and had to ask for some help and it came in the form of Jonah Long. Jonah had a big game for Team Goldman on Saturday, tossing 4 TD passes. All four of his TD strikes went to Captain Jackson who dominated Team Segal all game long. With the 4 TD grabs on Saturday afternoon, Captain Jackson now leads the league in Receiving TDs (Six). Team Kirsch ranks 2nd in points allowed through the first three weeks of the season, trailing only Team Gallender! They have a strong offense to go with a very good defense, a combination that will certainly win them a lot of games. They’ll look to make it three wins in a row on Saturday afternoon when they take the field against #6 Team Burstyn (0-3).

3. Team Lowenthal – 2-1

Let’s just say Week 3 was not a great week for Team Lowenthal. By the final score of 26-0, Team Lowenthal walked away from Mitchell Field wondering what just happened. It went from bad to worse very quickly on Saturday afternoon as Team Lowenthal’s Offense was non-existent in this contest. Their Defense played well enough to get the victory and held Team Gallender to just 8 points in the first half. BUT you do have to give credit to where credit is due. Team Lowental could have easily just walked away at any point during this game and said that’s it…BUT they didn’t. They stuck in there until the very last whistle so big props to them for that. That tells me that they are not willing to give up and games like this do happen. They’ll need to just simply hit the reset button and come back to Mitchell Field on Saturday afternoon with only one thing on their minds…Win! #5 Team Segal (1-2) will be waiting for them.

4. Team Fleisher – 1-2

Moving up one spot in the Week 3 Power Rankings after a dramatic 40-33 victory over Team Burstyn on Saturday afternoon is non-other than Team Fleisher. After a tough Week 2 loss to #2 Team Goldman, Team Fleisher rebounded very nicely in Week 3 to pick up their first victory on the season. Billy Rudman had a huge day for Team Fleisher on Saturday afternoon, tossing 5 scores while also rushing one in. Captain Nate, Daniel Kaplan, Jason Garfinkel, Myles Michelon and Peter Rudman were all on the receiving end of Billy’s TD throws. Team Burstyn was giving Team Gallender all that they could handle on Saturday afternoon, but Team Fleisher always seemed to have an answer. This was a huge victory for Team Fleisher as their schedule over the next couple of weeks is very daunting. They’ll look to keep that high-powered offense rolling in Week 4 when they go toe-to-toe with #1 Team Gallender (3-0) coming up on Saturday afternoon in our Week 4 Game of the Week!

5. Team Segal – 1-2

For the second time this season, Team Segal has put up the number 12 on the scoreboard. Unfortunately for Team Segal, they did not get the same result in Week 3 as they did in Week 1. By the final score of 33-12, Team Segal has now dropped two games in a row after a recording a solid victory on opening day. The only scores of the game for Team Segal came on a very nice TD pass from Captain Rocky to Aaron Kaplan. Captain Rocky was also able to rush in a score to try to keep his squad in this game. The good news for Team Segal is that there are still 3 weeks in the regular season to turn their campaign back around. The bad news for Team Segal is that they only have 3 regular season games remaining to turn their campaign back around. They need to start accumulating some wins and it needs to start in Week 4 when they host Team Lowenthal (2-1) who will also be doing everything in their power to shake off their Week 3 loss. Big game coming up in Week 4.

6. Team Burstyn – 0-3

In last week’s Power Rankings article, we mentioned that what we wanted to see improvement from Team Burstyn coming into Week 3. Well Team Burstyn delivered on our request. Even though they did not walk away with a victory in Week 3, dropping the game to Team Fleisher by a final score of 40-33, we did see A LOT of improvement from this squad. Captain Jesse and co. were much more organized and had a great game plan in place coming into this game. Their Defense hung tough with Team Fleisher and they were able to move the ball and get scores on Offense. Captain Jesse was lights out in this contest, throwing for 3 TDs while also rushing in two scores. But, in the end, it just wasn’t enough. These guys just need to continue taking it one game at a time and good things will start to happen. They’ll have a big opportunity in Week 4 to pick up their first W on the year when they take the field against #2 Team Goldman (2-1). Huge game coming up.

That’s it for the Week 3 Rankings. I’ll see everyone back on the field on Saturday afternoon!
