The Playoffs are right around the corner and all teams will be jockeying for Playoff positions over the final two weeks. But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let’s look at where our teams line up in the Week 4 Power Rankings. The 4th week of the Regular Season brought with it a strong slate of matchups. But any chaos that could have resulted in drastic changes at the top of the Week 4 Power Rankings didn’t come to fruition. The top three teams remain the same this week with Team Gallender, Team Goldman and Team Lowenthal holding down their respective spots for another week. Sorting out the next tier is where it begins to get interesting, with the next three teams making a legitimate case for the No. 4 spot. This is going to be an exciting finish!

Power Rankings

1. Team Gallender – 4-0

Boy oh boy, did Team Gallender look like a Championship team once again on Saturday…at least for the first 39 minutes. Fresh off a 26-0 shutout in Week 3 over the defending Champions, Team Gallender came out aggressively once again on Saturday afternoon. Captain and QB Josh Gallender — someone many consider to be the league MVP through the first four weeks of the season — threw 5 TD strikes on Saturday afternoon to bring his season total to a whopping 17 total TDs! Two of his five TD passes on Saturday went to Zach Pomerantz who is now tied for the league lead in that category with 7. Jack Haley was also on the receiving end of two of those TD passes, which now brings his season total to 5. By the final score of 33-26 over Team Fleisher, Team Gallender brought their record up to a perfect 4-0. In other words, Team Gallender doesn’t ease up on the gas pedal, and they have A LOT of trust in their quarterback. With defenses so focused on the Pomerantz/Haley combo, MVP candidate Josh takes advantage of 1-on-1 matchups wherever he seems them. And by takes advantage, I mean delivers accurate, on-time throws to all players. Team Gallender will look to keep their perfect record in-tact and wrap up the overall #1 seed coming up on Saturday afternoon when they take the field against #2 Team Goldman in our Week 5 Game of the Week!

2. Team Goldman – 3-1

#2 Team Goldman arrived at Wolter’s Field on Saturday with only one thing on their minds…victory! By the final score of 45-0, Team Goldman reminded everyone in the league that they are still one of the favorites to bring home the crown in the 2019. Another candidate for League MVP through the first four weeks of the regular season, Jonah Long, absolutely dominated #6 Team Fleisher on both sides of the ball. Jonah accounted for 5 total TD’s (2 Passing, 1 Rushing and 2 Defensive) in his squads’ domination over #6 Team Burstyn. Captain Jackson was able to snag down one of Jonah’s Passing TD’s and brings his season Receiving TD total to 7, tied for the league lead. While Team Goldman’s Offense was clicking on all cylinders on Saturday afternoon, it was their Defense that stole the show. Now only did they pitch a shutout for the second time this season, they were able to record 4 pick-6’s! They’ll bring their #1 Defense to Wolter’s Field on Saturday afternoon to try to slow down the League’s #1 Offense, Team Gallender (4-0), in our Week 5 Game of the Week!

3. Team Lowenthal – 3-1

#3 Team Lowenthal got back on track on Saturday afternoon after losing their first game of the season back in Week 3. By the final score of 34-24, #3 Team Lowenthal brought their regular season record up to 3-1 with a nice victory over #5 Team Segal. QB Jonathan Wasserman accounted for 4 of his squads 5 total TDs on Saturday afternoon, throwing for 3 and rushing 1 in. Josh Mack also had a big day on Saturday, hauling down two of QB Wasserman’s throws, while also rushing in a score of his own. Team Lowenthal’s Offense was clicking all day, but their Defense once again allowed 20+ points as they allowed #5 Team Segal to put up the most points that they have all season. We all know that Team Lowenthal has the Offense and playmakers to carry them to a Championship, but the real question that remains is when the time comes, will their Defense be able to make some stops to secure a victory? They have two more regular season games to fix those glaring issues. Next up is #4 Team Fleisher on Saturday afternoon.

4. Team Fleisher – 1-3

To Team Fleisher’s credit, they put up a resilient effort in Week 4 on Saturday afternoon but just couldn’t get over the hump against #1 Team Gallender. By the final score of 33-26, Team Fleisher suffered their third defeat of the season. Turnovers, Turnovers, Turnovers. That was the name of this game for Team Fleisher. Myles Michelon and Billy Rudman traded off Offensive possessions and both were able to get on the board with nice TD throws. Billy also rushed in a score but three of their first five Offensive possessions resulted in interceptions and it’s hard to win games in this League when you give up the ball that many times. In looking for a silver lining in defeat here, Team Fleisher gave Team Gallender more than they could handle, at least towards the end of the game. They had an opportunity during the final possession of the game to pull off a magical comeback. They couldn’t ultimately catch Team Gallender but should have left Wolters Field with an elevated confidence level. They’ll look to rebound from this loss and move up our Rankings in Week 5 when they take the field against #3 Team Lowenthal (3-1).

5. Team Segal – 1-3

Sorting out this next tier of Teams is where it begins to get interesting in the HP Prep Flag Football League, with the following two teams making a legitimate case for the No.4 and No.5 spot. In the Week 4 Power Rankings we are going to give the No.5 nod to Team Segal. Team Segal took on #3 Team Lowenthal on Saturday afternoon and came up just a little short, falling 34-24. Captain Rocky once again led the charge for Team Segal in this contest as he was able to find three different receivers for scores on Saturday afternoon. Oren Salinas, Max Lens and substitute Jackson Goldman were all on the receiving ends of Rocky’s throws. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t enough to keep pace with the high scoring Team Lowenthal crew. They shouldn’t get too down on themselves however as many teams have ran into the same issues when facing the #3 squad in the League. Team Segal has players that can put up big numbers on any given Saturday and their balance on both sides of the ball is a good sign for them moving forward. They also currently hold the H2H tiebreaker with Team Burstyn with a victory over them in the Season Opener. They will take on #6 Team Burstyn once again in Week 5 with an opportunity to clinch at the very least the #5 overall seed.

6. Team Burstyn – 0-4

#6 Team Burstyn had their struggles on Saturday afternoon as they were without their Captain and QB Jesse Burstyn. By the final score of 45-0, Team Burstyn suffered their worst defeat of the season and are still searching for their first HP Prep Flag Football League victory. They had no answers on the Defensive side of the ball as they gave up a season-high 45 points. They also had their struggles on the Offensive side of the ball as they were held without a point for the first time all season. With only two regular season games remaining, #6 Team Burstyn needs to start finding some answers. They’ll hope to have their leader and Captain back coming up on Saturday afternoon as they have a huge showdown and rematch against #5 Team Segal (1-3). A victory coming up on Saturday afternoon will give them an opportunity to climb out of the six-hole, while a loss all but guarantees they finish the regular season as the overall #6 seed. HUGE game coming up on Saturday afternoon.

That’s it for Week 4. I’ll see everyone back on the field on Saturday afternoon!
