2014 Champaign League – Elite8 Softball (Nov. 5)

By
Updated: November 7, 2014

On Wednesday Night we went from the Elite.. to the Final combatants.. From 8 to 4.  At this time next week, we’ll have just 1 survivor.. Tons to settle and recap prior to Crowning that Champion..  Next Week, the Final4 takes place on the gridiron and then the Championship Game moves indoors to the Hoops Court.  Here’s a Link to the Weekly Highlight Video (w/ extended Playoff Highlights).  Also, here’s a Link to the Updated Playoff Bracket.  The Power Rankings this week serves a Preview for Championship Night.  Let’s get to it!

Final4 Flag Football — Winners advance to Championship Game

1. Team ZBT (Biaggi’s Black) v. 5. Team SAE 15s (Farm Lake Barn)

This serves as a Rematch from their Week 7 Flag Football battle which Team SAE 15s won.. On that night, Team ZBT was “resting it’s starters” as they already had locked up the #1 seed.. So expect a totally different bunch than the one that took the field a couple weeks ago.. Captain Lemke’s SAE 15 crew come are coming into what will likely be their final night in the Champaign All Sports Series League.. They are a group of Seniors who will graduate next Spring.. They know this is the final opportunity to leave as Champions.  Both last year and this year, they’ve proven to be a top flight Flag Football Team. Scott Ingram led the League in total TDs with 8 in two Games and Zach Dulla tied for 4th in total TDs with 5..  They are a high powered Offense and rely on their athleticism and instincts to fly around the field on Defense. By no means are they an “underdog” just because the Seeding says so..

As for the #1 overall Seed — Team ZBT.  They followed up a phenomenal Regular Season run with a very nice W in the Elite8 Round.. They assured the entire League that there would be no Cinderella in Champaign this year.. The Quinns led the way at the plate combining for 5 big hits and a couple RBI as well. 5th year man and All Sports vet Sam Witt also added some punch at the plate in the W.. This is a Group (and a house really) that prides themselves on their football prowess.  Captain Lehrman’s squad are not going to make mistakes. They will make you beat them. QB1 Richie Renner has been as successful as any QB in the history of the Champaign League.. This Game has real potential to be an absolute shoot-out. In fact, the first team to get a “stop” might be dancing in the Championship Game.. Good Luck!

2. Team Evans Scholars (iHotel) v. 3. Team Sig Ep (Starr Limo)

Both Teams have been powerehouses all Season long.. That seems obvious as they are the #2 and #3 seeds respectively.. But that doesn’t always tell the full story.. Both received points in all but one or two weeks this Season.. They are good at everything.. Both Teams are 2-0 on the gridiron this year as well.. We truly have a clash of the titans in this one.. Team Evans Scholars has really taken the League by storm in their Rookie campaign.  There have been over 20 seasons of All Sports Series played out and only a couple Rookie squads have ever succeeded like this.. If they can put 2 more Wins together, Captain Peter Carey and crew will be joining some pretty elite company.  Look for Trevor Freberg to once again try and fill up the stat sheet (and scoreboard) on Wednesday Night.. He had 6 TDs in his one appearance early in the Season.. He’s a real threat whenever he has the ball in his hands.

With Team Sig Ep, this year is truly about redemption.. They were the #2 seed a year ago and got up-ended in the Elite8 Round. They can happily check, get a Playoff W and advance past the Elite8 Round, off their to do list.. However, they still have one giant thing left to do — win the whole thing.  They’ve been a perennial favorite since the Champaign League was created and this really could be the year the stars align for them. Brandon Shaw and Nick Lobraco are really impressive on the Football field and they are backed by a solid cast all the way around.. This Game truly will be a slugfest and whoever can avoid making a crucial mistake will likely take the huge W.

Championship Hoops

So there you have it.. One of those 4 Teams will be the 2014 Champaign League Champs and win a FREE Barn Dance from Farm Lake Barn!  Will it be the top 2 seeds dueling in the ‘ship?  Or will we have a pair of “upsets” with the lower seeds advancing?  Can Sig Ep make good on their two year run at the top?  Will Rookies Evans Scholars do the unthinkable?  Can SAE 15s take it in their final go around? Or maybe it’s Team ZBT going wire to wire at the top in 2014?  We’ll find out Wednesday!  Good Luck everyone!

For those who wrapped up their season this week, thank you for playing and we’ll see you back next year! Have a great weekend.
