Championship Tuesday Review:

The stage was set on Championship Tuesday with the Semi-Finals and the Championship. We had #1 Team Kappa Sig SR taking on #4 Team AEPi SR in one Semi and #2 Team Delta Upsilon JR facing #6 Team Sammy SO (who had upset #3 Team Theta Chi SR the week before) in the other Semi-Final.

#1 KSig SR entered the Semis with #4 AEPi SR as the favorites – having the better record and defeating AEPi on two separate occasions in the Regular Season as well – however, AEPi had just won a huge match-up with #5 Team Sammy SR in the Elite8 Round. Unfortunately for Team AEPi SR, they did not have enough available bodies to field a legal Team on Tuesday night and had to take the forfeit loss. Team KSig SR recorded the forfeit Win and punched their ticket back to the Championship Game for the third straight year!

For AEPi, it was a disappointing end, but this season had a ton of highlights for them. Most notably, their huge Win to start the Playoffs over #5 Team Sammy SR. Captain Ben Kohl and co. had some great seasons and we hope to see them back in another All Sports Series League soon. Thanks for playing!

#2 Team Delta Upsilon JR and Captain Clayton Reible also entered their Semi-Final match-up as the overwhelming favorites against #6 Team Sammy SO. They won their Elite8 Round match-up the week before against #7 Team Fiji SR and were feeling great about themselves. #6 Team Sammy SO entered the Final4 following their huge upset victory against #3 Team Theta Chi SR in the Elite8 Round. Both teams were feeling great about their chances in this game but only 1 Team could advance to the Final4. By the final score of 77-44, Team DU rolled passed a younger Team Sammy crew and booked their trip to the Championship Game for the second consecutive year. Everett led the way for Team DU in this game, posting a game high of 18 points to lead his squad back into the Championship Game! Matthew Compton also had a very nice game here, scoring 17 points of his own. Team DU would book their spot in the Championship Game with this victory and tip-off against #1 Team KSig SR for the second consecutive year.

For Team Sammy SO, it was a fantastic postseason run that I’m sure ended a little prematurely in their eyes. Regardless, they had a great season and made it further than most were expecting. They had a huge Win to start the Playoffs over #3 Team Theta Chi SR in the Elite8 round but unfortunately just ran out of steam against an older and more experienced Team DU squad. Captain Brian Unger and co. will be back for their Junior season. Thanks for playing!

With the Win in the Semis, #1 KSig SR would look to defend their crown against the same squad they beat in the Championship Game one year ago, #2 Team Delta Upsilon JR. These Teams had met back in October and #1 KSig SR had gotten the win on that night by a final score of 67-59. KSig SR started fast in this contest, riding their momentum from the Semis. Peter Poggioli had 23 for Team KSig, his second straight 20+ point performance on Championship Tuesday. Thomas Haughey was again in double figures for them as well. For DU, Jake Burgerass scored 10. Everett had 9 and Alex Thomas pitched in with 8 points of his own. It was a very evenly matched Game but as the 2nd half wore on, it was KSig SR who were able to make a few more plays down the stretch and they would Win the Championship 64-57!!

For DU – it will be tough to get over Back-to-Back Championship Losses, but they should be proud of everything they accomplished in 2018. We Thank You guys for playing in the All Sports Series Madison League over the years and hope to see you guys in one of our Leagues in the future. Congrats on a great run!

For the Champs Team KSig SR…Incredible! These guys fought all season just to make it back to where they ended in 2016 and won it in 2017 and this year, they were able to make good on what they started to give Kappa Sig their second straight Crown in All Sports Series history! These guys made an incredible run over the last few years and their legacy will certainly live on in The Madison Hoops League. Congrats again and thanks for playing!

Thank you to all the Madison Leaguers for another great Fall season! We’ll see you in 2019, good luck on Finals!
